Just thought I’d point out that the North can also secede in this era (and it actually just occurred to me how funny it would be if after having the players switch parties from the first 1856 playtest, the same players who had to deal with losing so many pols in the last game ended up having the same problem caused by a Northern secession).

  7. By my count it was New York again. It did have the exact same margin as Connecticut and North Dakota, but even if Payne had won both of those it wouldn't have been enough without New York.
