Location: South Bend, Indiana. Time: 9:00 AM CST. Temperature: 32° F.

In a cold, crisp Midwestern morning, the young mayor of a small city takes the platform. After talking for months with advisors, donors, and his partner, Mayor Pete, as he is affectionately known, has decided to take the plunge into the Democratic Primary for President of the United States. Touting his strong roots to the community including local leaders, unions, and businesses, Mayor Pete has decided to run a campaign focused on bringing together the two wings of the party through building a message of what works on Main Street will work for all Americans.

The mayor will focus his campaign on three major issues: support for a public health insurance option with an individual mandate; support for organized labor and workers' rights through federal union protections and a $15 minimum wage; and reform of the federal government including abolishment of the electoral college and expansion of the supreme court.

Having witnessed the 2016 primary, the mayor wants to build a base that attempts to bridge the Clinton and Sanders wings of the party. Through the above policies, he will focus on building up support among working class white Americans, like those who supported Sen. Sanders and Pres. Obama, as well as African Americans, who supported both Pres. Obama and Sec. Clinton. Both of these bases are the bedrock of South Bend's population, so Mayor Pete knows the strength of them combined and that their support will be key to wining the nomination and the general election.

Mayor Pete closes his announcement speech, "So with hope in our hearts and fire in our bellies, let’s get to work and let’s make history!"

See you all on the campaign trail!

Opening Speech from Logan, West Virginia.

"I am here to announce the launch of my candidacy for President of the United States! For too long has the party been plagued by those whom are in the top-tier of our party have continued to enrich themselves at the expense of our base."

Ojeda, a retired army general from West Virginia, has taken a stance on the party being too elitist and is now opening his play into the unsatisfied voters who think the party has moved too much to the center.

Michael Bloomberg Presidential Announcement in New York City

"My fellow Americans. My fellow New Yorkers! I'm pleased to be here with all of you.

This country has had enough!

Donald Trump, the yelling, the lawlessness, the racial injustice, the polarization, the STRUGGLE.

The occupant in our current White House is the most polarized President we've had in generations. And take it from a New Yorker folks, I'm the only one that can beat him. It's time to bring some sense back to this country. A recovery in this nation is when Donald Trump loses the 2020 Election!

I know with as many candidates running under the Democratic name, a lot of competition is going to ensue. But lets get some things straight: We cannot let what has happened to the Republican Party, happen to the Democratic Party on the flip side of the coin! The talks of mainstream 'socialist' ideas are a danger to our country. And will only make the many struggling Americans poorer.

Not to mention, every candidate who is advocating for socialism under the Democratic name is already a millionaire! What kinda baloney is that?!

Folks in America are looking for help. And a President Mike Bloomberg is gonna promise to deliver. We're going to get on social media, our movement is gonna spread far and wide... but that's not it!" Mike would pause anticipation.

"If everybody texts Bloomberg to the number on my podiums and outside the rallies... you will receive real American dollars for coming to a Bloomberg rally! Since our current inept Government isn't helping, and the 'socialists' who claim they're trying to help you, I'm gonna do what none of them have the capacity to do. $100.00 if you collect enough points by coming to a Bloomberg rally. Everybody who texts now gets 20 bucks on the house. Go out and have a nice lunch. JUST REMEMBER! VOTE BLOOMBERG.

Thank you all, and God Bless America. Let's bring America back!"

Opening on a cold, snowy day in Boom island Park, Minnesota, Senator Amy Klobuchar will announce her campaign for Presidency of the United States, emphasizing a message of a pragmatic liberal approach to the Presidency.

"Nobody knows how to get things done more than Amy Klobuchar! I've worked 12 years in the United States Senate to bring the American people results, and I'll continue to do so as President! Working across the aisle has been a specialty of mine in the Senate, and the people of Minnesota have recognized that and I've been able to win votes from all over Minnesota, hell I've never lost any of the state's Congressional Districts in any of my three elections! I understand the plights of rural, suburban, and urban voters alike, and my independent mindset knows how to work with anybody to get things done. Most importantly, I, above all else, am Minnesota Strong! Just ask anybody who's worked with or for me over the years, they know that I'm tough and I don't take crap, and that's how it'll work when I'm President. Hell, I'm already ready of Donald Trump's crap, and I know that you are too, Minnesota! Let's kick his ass out of office next November, shall we?

Bill DeBlasio as he enters a stage in Manhattan, New York.

“Hello Manhattan! It’s a fine day here in the great city of New York ain’t it? Now as the Mayor of your city I have done wonders here to bring common sense progressive politics to this great city. In my tenure alone, we have brought universal pre-kindergarten to the largest school district in the nation. We have built hundreds of thousands of affordable housing units. The New York City economy has gotten stronger than it's ever been! And trust me I plan on doing much more as the end of my final term comes.”

“But recently I have been thinking. I have been thinking about how we could do so much more. Not just here in New York City. . . but in the United States of America. Across the country the working class has been squeezed to death by the rich and powerful. From the shores of Hawaii to the forests of Maine, regular working class Americans are not getting the share in prosperity that they deserve! And so after some careful thinking and many discussions with friends and family I have made the conscientious decision.”

“I, Bill DeBlasio, officially announce today that I will be running to become the next Democratic nominee for the presidency of the United States of America!”

“Donald Trump is the most dangerous man to step foot in the Oval Office! He is the epitome of buffoonery, the manifestation of the hate and bigotry that are affront to the ideals and values that we as Americans hold dear! He claims that the economy is strong and is working for all. It’s true. . . for the rich and powerful at least! While the richer get richer the poorer get poorer. And it will only continue if we as a nation do not rise up and say NO! “

“Let’s get universal health care for all! Let’s get the Green New Deal going! Let’s get universal pre-k across the nation! Let’s build more homes! Let’s fix our roads! Let’s build an economy that works for the many not the few! I am running for president because it's time we put working people first!”

Bernie Sanders Campaign Announcement

  • Location: Los Angeles, California
  • Message: We need bold and progressive economic, social, and political change to restore the American Dream and fix the poverty and inequality suffered in this country.
  • Base: Black Voters, Progressives, Youth

Bernie Sanders begins his campaign launch with a barn-burning rally in downtown Los Angeles, a progressive metropolis right in the backyard of Hollywood. Sanders secures numerous hit song numbers and speeches by famous actors such as Ariana Grande, Mark Ruffalo, and Snoop Dogg to warm up the crowd. After several musical numbers have finished, a number of progressive stars come out and give their own prepared remarks.

Ben Cohen and Ro Khanna, campaign co-chairs for the Bernie 2020 Presidential campaign, start off with a vigorous defense of closing the income gap, and fighting to overturn the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. Cohen announces a new limited time flavor of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream made special for the Bernie Sanders campaign, called “Bernie’s Back”.

After their remarks, the third and final co-chair, Nina Turner, gives a blistering attack of Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s attacks on voting rights for African Americans. Turner’s speech also praises the Black Lives Matter movement, for its efforts to secure equal political representation for African Americans in society and under the law.

Finally, a surprise guest visit by Ben Jealous, former leader of the NAACP, leads into a speech on the tireless effort Bernie Sanders and the Democratic Party have dedicated to securing and promoting the rights of minorities in this country, against the vicious attacks of the Republican Party.

As Ben Jealous finishes his remarks, one more surprise speaker takes the stage. The crowd erupts to see their favorite firebrand progressive, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez! AOC starts by mentioning her humble beginnings, working as a bartender in the Bronx to take care of her mother. AOC then talks about joining the Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016, having been so moved by the struggles of millions of Americans desperate for change. She recalls visiting Flint, Michigan after the campaign, and seeing families without even basic essentials like water, and how that motivated her to make a change. AOC brings up her run for congress in 2018, where despite long odds and little money she won a great victory for progressive politics, and for the people who struggle each and every day to make ends meet.

”Before Bernie Sanders”, AOC continues, “Broken healthcare, income inequality, corruption, poverty, and environmental degradation were considered facts of life.”

”But he showed us that together we could demand better!”

AOC continues as the crowd cheers, “And together we will bring the American Dream to every family, and move past the bigotry and corruption of Donald Trump!”

AOC concludes her remarks with praise for Bernie Sanders’ commitment to progressive politics, although deferring an official endorsement for the time being, and leaves the stage amid cheering and applause. Finally, after half a minute of suspense, Bernie Sanders walks on stage. The crowd reaches fever pitch, and the chants of “Bernie” echo across the city of Los Angeles. For four years the Bernie Bros had suffered through the disastrous presidency of Donald Trump, but they hadn’t been idle in that time. Through hard work, campaign organization, and media outreach the young progressive movement had taken Bernie’s ideas mainstream in the Democratic Party, and secured numerous prominent wins throughout the midterms. Now, the time had come for their leader and progressive standard-bearer to finish the job.

“Thank you all for coming!”, Sanders begins, “And thank you to the great state of California and the city of Los Angeles for hosting this wonderful event!”

The crowd begins to settle down, as Sanders begins his remarks.

“Let’s not beat around the bush. In the past four years, this country has suffered under the administration of a corrupt bigot and sexist, a billionaire who dodged his taxes, and a standard-bearer of the party that wants to kick people off of their healthcare and lower taxes for the 1%. But Donald Trump is a symptom, not a cause. We cannot settle for simply beating Trump, but we must move on from his administration with a bold plan for action. Across this country Americans are struggling to get by, and they need to know that the American Dream is here for them too!”

“My platform is simple: a $15 national minimum wage, repeal of Taft-Hartley, Medicare-for-all, free universal college, lowering of the voting age to 16, abolition of the filibuster and gerrymandering, federal jobs programs for the unemployed, a closing of tax loopholes and increased taxes on the 1%, and a Green New Deal to address the climate crisis in this country.”

“There are some who claim that these policies are ‘radical’, or ‘socialist’. I say that the true radicals are those who would keep the broken policies of yesterday enshrined in law. A little while ago Joe Biden told a meeting of rich mega-donors that ‘nothing would fundamentally change’ in a Biden administration. Well I have news for you, Mr. Biden, that millions of Americans are suffering and dying and they need change more than ever!

As for those who call me ‘socialist’, I say that the current policies and programs put in place by the Republicans are socialist too. The GOP had never hesitated to give the rich and big corporations bailouts, tax breaks, and special benefits that the rest of us aren’t entitled to. Let’s be real here: the Republican policy is socialism for the rich, and rugged individualism for the poor and middle class. What I propose is a platform of social democracy to fix our broken system, because capitalism without equality and competition isn’t capitalism: it’s exploitation.”

“Let us not forget, as well, that this argument is not new by any means. Unemployment insurance, abolishing child labor, the 40-hour work week, collective bargaining, strong banking regulations, deposit insurance, and job programs that put millions of people to work were all described, in one way or another, as 'socialist.' Yet, these programs have become the fabric of our nation and the foundation of the middle class.”

“Yesterday Mr. Bloomberg claimed that every ‘socialist’ running is a millionaire, and I have news for him: that simply isn’t the case. As of today, I’ve donated over 3/4ths of my personal funds to progressive house candidates and progressive organizations for the 2020 election, so that we can ensure a strong democratic congress in this upcoming election. I strongly encourage each and every one of you to contribute whatever you can, to ensure that progressive democrats can stop the reactionary agenda of the Republican Party. The establishment democrats and conservative republicans have millions and billions of dollars in dark money, from mega-donors and super-PACs, but my campaign has refused to accept any and all money from SuperPACs. Instead, I depend on the financial support of small donors, people like you, to send a message to the 1% and their scions in the beltway. So, I am once again asking for your financial support.”

“My campaign slogan is ‘not me, us’, because I believe that it is only together that we can achieve the change this country needs. The 1% may be rich and powerful, but there’s a whole lot more of us than there are of them. They’ve created a vast outrage machine, a media dedicated to culture war issues and misinformation, to keep the lower and middle class people from realizing that the American Dream is being taken from them. If you’ll go to my campaign website, I’ve created a list of ‘anti-endorsements’ from hundreds of fortune-500 companies, CEOs, and millionaires and billionaires who are deathly afraid of a Bernie Sanders presidency. Let me tell you: they are right to be afraid, because the people are going to send them a message this November!”

“But there is something else I wish to talk about tonight, and that is the most fundamental right in America. The right to vote. In 2018, Stacey Abrams ran agains Brian Kemp for governor of Georgia, a state where Republicans have dominated through keeping black voters from the polls. When Kemp was told to step down as Secretary of State for Georgia because of a conflict of interest, he instead used that office to purge thousands of black voters from the registration rolls, and engage in monstrous levels of voter suppression. In one night in 2017, nearly 700,000 voters were purged from the rolls by Brian Kemp. This is not acceptable in our democracy, and we need to stand up and fight against this blatant attack on the basic rights of black people to vote.”

“To secure these rights, I am proposing a new Voting Rights Act as the first priority of my administration, and I will pledge to have one passed through congress within the first year of my presidency. This act will ensure automatic voter registration, expanded absentee voting and vote by mail, expanded early voting, make election day a national holiday, crack down on gerrymandering, and strengthen the provisions of the original Voting Rights Act. The Supreme Court ruling in Shelby County V. Holder was a disgrace, and the decline in voting opportunities for black voters since then needs to be addressed. I will fight this fight in the White House as I have in congress, without any watering down or equivocation. Voting rights are human rights, and I will not let anyone say otherwise.

“Donald Trump claimed he would ‘drain the swamp’, but his administration has had more corruption and graft than any in recent memory. I will take firm action to fix this, from day one. I will ban stock trading for all members of congress, and abolish the filibuster to prevent politicians from holding up vital legislation for their mega-rich lobbyists. Furthermore, I will have bills in the house to make Puerto Rico and D.C. states within the first week of my administration, to ensure they are given equal and fair representation as well as every other American. Finally, I will put forth a path to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants, and put an end to felony disenfranchisement, a policy used by republicans to keep black people from the polls. By bringing the disenfranchised and neglected out of the shadows, we will ensure greater rights for the have-nots instead of the rich and powerful lobbyists and corporate donors.”

“This is what my campaign is, has, and always will be about: You. It is through your donations, tireless effort, and boundless optimism that a campaign without any mega-donor support or prominent endorsements won millions of votes in 2016. It is through you that ideas like Medicare-for-all, a Green New Deal, or Free Universal College can even be debated out in the open. You have made all of this possible, and for that I can never thank you all enough. Together, my friends, we have begun a political revolution to transform America, and that revolution, our revolution, continues!”

Governor Deval Patrick announces his candidacy in Boston, Massachusetts.

Base: Moderates, blacks, religious voters, business Democrats

Deval Patrick ends 2020 presidential campaign - CNNPolitics

Hi, everyone, I'm Deval Patrick. I used to be governor of Massachusetts. But that's not where I started. I grew up on the south side of Chicago. I lived there with my grandparents, my mother and sister and our grandparents two-bedroom tenement, some of that time on welfare.

I went to big broken, overcrowded public schools. And still my grandmother used to tell us we were not poor just broke, because broke, she said is temporary. Through the love and support a family, great teachers, adults in the neighborhood and in church, I learned to look up not down to hope for the best and work for it.

I was the first in my family to go to college and law school and have had a chance to work in government in nonprofits and in business. I've had a chance to live my American dream. But over the years, I've seen the path to that dream gradually closing off bit by bit.

The anxiety and even anger that I saw in my neighbors on the south side, the sense that the government and the economy, were letting us down. We're no longer about us is what folks feel all over America today and all kinds of communities.

I admire and respect the candidates in the Democratic field. They bring a richness of ideas and experience and a depth of character that makes me proud to be a Democrat. But if the character the candidates is an issue in every election, this time is about the character of the country.

This time is about whether the day after the election, America will keep her promises. This time is about more than removing an unpopular and divisive leader, as important as that is, but about delivering instead for you.

So, in a spirit of profound gratitude for all the country has given to me and with a determination to build a better, more sustainable, more inclusive American dream for the next generation. I am today announcing my candidacy for President of the United States.

Come be a part of this.

We will build as we climb, to welcome other teachers and learners, other seekers of a better way and builders have a better future.

This won't be easy, and it shouldn't be.

But I'm placing my faith in the people who feel left out and left back who just want a fair shot at a better future not built by somebody better than you. Not built for you, but built with you.

Now let's get started. Thank you.

Beto O'Rourke makes campaign stop in Harker Heights | Local | kdhnews.com

Location - El Paso, Texas

Base - Youth, Catholics, Liberals, Progressives

Message:  Saying let's beat Trump isn't enough. We need to go beyond that. Let's beat Trump and then take the next problem on!

------------

Today is the beginning of the Trump Administration's end!

Right here, right now, we're starting the wave that's gonna carry us into the White House and wash him straight out!

Here and now people! I know we can do it! Last year I nearly took down one of the highest profile Republican Senators in one of the prized Republican states, and ever since then Texas has been ebbing blue. If we can keep this momentum, this optimism, this belief that things can and will improve then I don't see why we can't seize 2020! I don't see why we can't knock Trump out of the Oval Office and get a few more of ours into the Senate!

This is a race for the country and it begins here. And let me tell you something! It's not about me, I may be at the front of this movement but you guys are the ones to make it work. And that goes for every single elected official in this country, we are nothing without the people who support us and vote for us. This race isn't gonna be one person against Trump. This race is going to be all of us taking on this racist demagogue of a President. And if all of you are up for the fight, and all of us can band together then we can do it!

This is gonna be a fight from the grassroots, in every neighborhood, in every city! But we can do this together! We're gonna take down Trump, then we're really gonna go for it.

Healthcare!

Education!

Environment!

Once Trump's out of the way there are the three things we're gonna tackle!

So c'mon! Let's get it together! Win this fight! And then make a difference!

Senator Corey Booker walks out the main doors of City Hall in Newark NJ where he served as mayor prior.

he reminds everyone of the accomplishments while mayor and then goes over what he’s doing as US Senator now.    “Some people can tout their time as Mayor but they don’t have the national exposure in Senate to back it up”.     Citizens all over the Northeast know what I stand for - voters from NJ to NY from NH to Maine.   Soon all Americans from sea to shining sea will know what I stand for.     He talks about some of his platform proposals and closes with “the problems plaguing America have long come from wealthy white men holding the rest of us down.   It may have started with the plantation owners like former President Pierce Butler and all the slaves he bought and sold.  Today we still have wealthy white men trying to rule us all and keep the common man down.    Whether it’s President Trump or Joe Biden.   Whether it’s Bernie Sanders or Mayor Bloomberg.    They are still the ruling class.   Well Gentlemen, I am Spartacus and the revolution to free America starts today,   I appreciate your support and I appreciate your votes.”

Message: "There’s fundamental question about how we bring our party together. We have to think about it in new ways. People across this country, whether they’re Democrats, independents, or Republicans, understand that we’ve got a government right now that works great for those at the top. Works great for giant drug companies, just not for people trying to get a prescription filled. Works great for oil companies that want to drill everywhere, just not for the rest of us who see climate change bearing down upon us. When you see a government that works great for those who can hire armies of lobbyists and lawyers and make big campaign donations and it’s not working so great for everyone else, that is corruption, pure and simple, and we need to call it out for what it is. Corruption, and that’s what we can run on. We bring our party together. We bring our country together. It's no time to tinker around the edges, fiddle with the figures, or re-arrange the chairs. It's time to throw out the old playbook and hire some new writers. Big, structural change is how we fix these problems. We can't do it without all of you. That's why I'm running for President." Message: Aloha.
Thank you so much.
---

Growing up here in Hawaii, I loved swimming, surfing, and having fun in this paradise we are lucky to call home.
But I gradually realized that I was actually happiest when I was doing things for other people, doing things to protect our water, oceans, and beaches.

This was a different kind of happiness than what I experienced when just thinking of myself. It was a deeper happiness, that stayed with me.

I knew that no matter what path I chose in life, I wanted service to be the foundation.

I am proud to serve our country as a soldier. I’m a Major in the Army National Guard where I’ve served for the last 15 years.
I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the people of Hawaii and our country in so many ways over the years --, in the state house where I was elected at 21, serving 100,000 people as a member of the Honolulu City Council, and now for over 6 years in Congress.

Thank you for your trust and your aloha.
---

I’m a Major in the Army National Guard, where I’ve served for the last 15 years. a Major in the National Guard and proud to serve as a soldier, a Major in the National Guard, proud to serve our country as a soldier. I enlisted nearly 15 years ago in the Army National Guard, and deployed twice to the Middle East.
---

Our nation was founded on the principle that our government should be of the people, by the people, and for the people -- where all people are treated equally, and with respect, in these UNITED states of America.

But today that vision seems like a far off dream.

Hatred and divisiveness have cast a dark shadow across our country.

We are being torn apart by powerful, self-serving politicians and greedy corporations, inciting hatred, fear, and conflict between us because of the color of our skin, the way we worship, or our political party. This corruption of spirit driven by greed and selfishness is eroding the very fabric of our society … and democracy itself.
---

This is not who we are, America.

The best of our nation is exemplified by our nation’s veterans who embody what it means to put service above self. Who have sacrificed their own personal interests out of a greater love for our people and our country.

Love is not just a feeling. It is a powerful force that drives us to act, to put service above self.

Our men and women in uniform, generation after generation, motivated by love for one another and for our country have been  willing to sacrifice  everything … for us.

They don’t  raise their hand and volunteer to serve  just to fight for one religion but not another; people of one race but not another; people of one political party but not another.

No.

When  we raise our right hand and volunteer to serve, we set aside our own interests -- to serve our country and to fight for ALL Americans.

We serve as one -- Indivisible and unbreakable, united by  this bond of  love for  each other and love for our country.

It is this principle of putting service above self, that is at the heart of every soldier, every service member.

And it is in this spirit that today I announce my candidacy for President of the United States of America.

I will bring a soldier's principles to the White House -- restoring the values of dignity, honor and respect to the presidency.

And above all, love for our people and love of country.

I ask you to join me, in this spirit of putting service before self, to stand up against the forces of greed and corruption.

The road ahead will not be easy.

The battle will be tough, the obstacles great.

But I know that when we stand united, by our love for our people and our country, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome, there is no battle we cannot win.

John F. Kennedy once said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

We must heed his call to action today, at this critical time in our history.

We must stand up, and fight for the soul of our country.

Stand up against bought and paid-for politicians, kowtowing to special interests, selling their votes to the highest bidder
Instead of draining the swamp, our president has turned it into a cesspool of corruption.

We must stand up against big pharma and insurance companies who extort those who are sick, who put their profits above the health of our people. We must fight to ensure that every American gets the quality healthcare they need, through Medicare for All.

Stand up against big Wall Street banks who gamble with our money and our future.

Stand up against overreaching intel agencies and big tech companies who take away our civil liberties and freedoms in the name of national security and corporate greed.

Stand up against those who pollute our land, our water, and our oceans.

We must stand up against corporate private prisons profiting off the backs of those caught up in a broken criminal justice system. A system that puts people in prison for smoking marijuana while allowing corporations like Purdue Pharma, responsible for opioid-related deaths of thousands, to walk away scot-free and coffers full. This so-called criminal justice system which favors the rich and powerful and punishes the poor CANNOT stand.

Stand up against those who perpetuate bigotry, hatred and violence against our brothers and sisters because of their race, religion, or sexual orientation.

Stand up against this Administration who claims to believe in America First but who sells our troops, our weapons and our interests to whichever foreign country is the highest bidder.

Stand up against those who dishonor our troops, treating them as political pawns, and mercenaries-for-hire in wars around the world.

Stand against powerful politicians from both parties who sit in ivory towers thinking up new wars to wage and new places for people to die. Wasting trillions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of lives, undermining our economy and security, and destroying our middle class.

Trump campaigned against regime change wars when he ran for President, but now bows to the wishes of the neocons around him, clamoring for the regime change wars he claimed to oppose, this time in Venezuela and Iran.

These powerful politicians dishonor the sacrifices made by every one of our service members, and their families - they are the ones who pay the price for these wars.

In fact, all Americans pay the price for these wars that have cost us trillions of dollars since 9/11.

Every dollar that we spend on regime change wars or the new cold war and nuclear arms race is a dollar coming from our pockets … dollars that should be used to meet the needs of our people and our communities here at home.

We must stand united and stand strong against those in both parties who never tire of war -- neolibs and neocons dragging us from one regime change war to the next, exacerbating the New Cold War, and pushing us to the brink of a nuclear war.

We deserve better. Our country deserves better.
---

Just over a year ago, the people of Hawaii and our country thought we were under nuclear attack.

College students frantically ran across campus trying to find shelter.

A father lowered his little girl into a man-hole to try to keep her safe
Families piled their kids into the car, driving to the mountains, looking for a cave to shelter in.

A mother, in her bathtub, cowering in fear with her child.

A father having to choose which of his children to spend the last minutes of his life with.

There was no shelter. There was nowhere to hide.

Those of us who serve in uniform made a choice – to put our lives on the line to serve our country, willing to pay the ultimate price – we volunteered for that. We chose that.

But my 6-year-old nephew Malu didn’t make that choice.

You didn't make that choice.

Our families didn’t make that choice.

Our troops volunteer to serve our country, to go to battle to defeat those who threaten us, to keep the American people safe. To make it so that while they’re fighting on the front lines, your children can sleep soundly here at home.

But as powerful politicians beat the drums of war and ratchet up tensions between the United States and nuclear-armed countries like Russia and China, the front lines have come to our doorstep, as we sit on the precipice of nuclear war.

Right now there are around 14,000 nuclear weapons in the world – many of them far more powerful than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki -- enough to destroy the world many times over.

Throughout the 20th century, during a Cold War with the Soviet Union, we were told we had no choice but to live with the fear that at any moment, we could be annihilated by nuclear war. Children in schools practiced reacting to a nuclear alert, hiding under their desks. People who could afford it, built bomb shelters. The rest wondered if they would survive.
With the dissolving of the Soviet Union, that danger was supposed to have disappeared.

But our leaders failed us. In fact, today, we face greater risk of nuclear catastrophe than ever before in history.
This situation is unacceptable.

The President’s most important responsibility is serving as Commander-in-Chief.

I will do so as a soldier who understands the seriousness of this responsibility.

I want to take a moment here to recognize and express my appreciation for our fellow veterans who have joined us here today.

Those of us who have experienced firsthand the cost of war, fight hardest for peace.

I served in Iraq in a medical unit, where every single day I was confronted with the high cost of war, and who pays the price.

I take seriously the responsibility of securing our nation.

I know that weakness invites aggression and that our men and women in uniform stand ready to take on and defeat those who threaten the safety and security of our people.

I also know that our current foreign policy is undermining our national security, depleting our resources, and exhausting our military.

As your commander-in-chief, I will work to end the new cold war, and lead us away from the abyss of a nuclear war that could destroy our world in mere minutes.

I will build partnerships with other nations based on shared interests, leading with a foreign policy based not on conflict but on cooperation.

I will end the regime change wars that have taken far too many lives, cost trillions of dollars, and and undermined our security by strengthening terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS.

I will have the courage to meet with both adversaries and friends in the pursuit of peace and our national security. If we lack the courage to meet with those we disagree with, the only alternative is war.

Bending the arc of history away from war and toward peace … will require every one of us to stand up against the military industrial complex and powerful, self-serving politicians who have a vested interest in perpetual war.
---

When I was deployed to Iraq in 2005, there was a big sign at one of the main gates to our camp that read: IS TODAY THE DAY.

It was a stark reminder. From the time I woke up, to the time I went to sleep, I knew that any day could be my last. It made me reflect -- How am I making the most of the time that I have?

This is the same reality that faces us today. We have no time to waste. There is too much at stake.
---

The choice is ours. In order to make this change, every one of us must answer the call … to put service above self, putting the interests of our country before our own.

Motivated by love for each other and for our country, we will stand up, we will take action, and we will overcome.

Love should not be mistaken for weakness. There is no force more powerful than love.

It is love that causes firefighters to run into burning buildings to save the lives of total strangers.
… that drives a mother to run in front of a speeding car to save her child’s life.
… that inspires a soldier lay down their life to save the lives of others.

Love inspires us to care for each other, fight for each other, for our freedom, for our country.

WHAT OUR COUNTRY NEEDS NOW MORE THAN EVER IS THE SPIRIT OF ALOHA

What our country needs now more than ever is the spirit of aloha – the spirit of respect and love for one another and love for our country.

And this is the the most precious gift that Hawaii has to offer to our country and the world - aloha.

Aloha is so much more than just hello or goodbye.

Aloha means that I come to you with an open heart, I respect you, I have love for you and care about you. Whether a friend or a stranger, I come to you with aloha -- regardless of the color of your skin, where you come from, how you worship God, who you love, or what political party you belong.

Dr. Martin Luther King saw the power of aloha when he first visited our Islands and addressed the Hawaii House of Representatives in 1959:

He said: “…we look to you for inspiration and as a noble example, where you have already accomplished in the area of racial harmony and racial justice, what we are struggling to accomplish in other sections of the country, and you can never know what it means to those of us caught for the moment in the tragic and often dark midnight of man’s inhumanity to man, to come to a place where we see the glowing daybreak of freedom and dignity and racial justice.”

After returning to the mainland, Dr. King said of his visit:

“As I looked at all of these various faces and various colors mingled together like the waters of the sea, I could see only one face-- the face of the future!” (“Dr. King Reports on Trip to Hawaii,” Dexter Echo, 4 November 1959).

President John F. Kennedy recognized the same when he visited Hawaii in 1963:

“We are proud of this city and this state and what it stands for… these islands represent all that we are, and all that we hope to be.”

This change must begin with the White House

The White House should be a beacon of aloha -- respect, love and compassion for every American…

Our nation was founded on the values and principles of putting service above self -- rejecting the rule of kings who prospered from the sacrifices of the people, and forming a new nation founded on the premise that leaders should be motivated not by serving their own selfish interests --but by a desire to be of service to the people.

Deep inside the heart of every American is the love, honor, courage, and ideals that formed the foundation of this country … ideals that still shine in each and every one of us.

Each of us and all of us must rise again now and come together for each other, our country, and the world.

Our cause is to create a new and different path that reclaims our destiny and restores the uniquely American ideal: to seek a higher purpose greater than ourselves, to put service before self.

That is the cause that is calling to every American today.

So I’m asking you to stand with me, to build a movement for peace at home and abroad … that will fulfill the promise of America, of freedom, justice, equality and opportunity for all.

Thank you—mahalo and aloha!

Message: "If we are going to win in 2020, the one thing we as Democrats need to admit is that Donald Trump is not the cause of all of our problems. Because I want him out, don't get me wrong, but he is only a symptom of the economic changes and failing systems we are seeing in this country. 4 million manufacturing jobs have been blown away in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Iowa by a wave of machine and technological development. All of the states I just listed were key in Trump's path to the Presidency. And as this process of automation has gone on, Amazon, a prime contributor to this Fourth Industrial Revolution tearing through our communities, paid 0 in taxes last year. We need to change our message to connect with the real issues people are facing on the ground. The real and genuine economic changes that have driven so many voters towards the arms of Trump. That's why a universal income is so important. $1,000 dollars a month for every American who wants it, paid for by a Value-Added Tax hitting right at the pockets of companies like Amazon, would set the scales right and allow for our communities to thrive and grow in an era of great challenges. And I'm not just talking about automation. I'm talking about the opioid epidemic afflicting countless states for the profits of uncaring pharmaceutical companies. The spike in suicides tearing holes in our families, as young people feel hopeless and our life expectancy has declined for the past three years. If we want to beat Trump, we need to show voters a new vision for this country. One where you are guaranteed an income for the simple fact that you are a Human being and an American. One where our local economies can grow and thrive. A nation where we can build a Human-centered economy, focused not on GDP or the stock market as our determiners for success, but on the wellbeing of our people. Thank you."(UBI, automation, anti-corporate greed, combatting the issues that created Trump)
