Republican Debate Results:

On January 14th in North Charleston, South Carolina, the Republican candidates for President faced off on the debate stage for the sixth time in the race. Hosted by the Fox Business Network, the ten contenders for the nomination met one another with fury as the Iowa Caucuses near week by week. Here is how the debate went:

Ben Carson(9,3,9): +6. Dr. Ben Carson hasn't been in the spotlight of the Republican Primary for months now. However, with a strong debate performance in a sea of mediocrity and failure, he may be making his way towards a comeback. Carson performed strongly emphasizing his conservative agenda as the path to victory against Hillary Clinton and gave a passionate appeal to anti-Trump Republicans in the primary. However, halfway through the debate, Carson would give an unenergetic attack declaring Trump to be a RINO, an attack which was quickly brushed aside by the Donald, slightly harming an otherwise strong performance.

Jeb! Bush(8,3,9): +5. Jeb! Bush, coming on stage after a stunning time on the trail in the week preceding the debate, brought this same energy to the debate stage. With a strong message vowing to protect the Constitution and the will of the people as President, and a brilliant appeal to moderate conservatives in the party, Bush brought strength and life to his performance on stage. The only error would be an ill-fated strike at Trump, with Bush's claims of Trump being a dividing force in the Republican Party and America brushed aside by the businessman's derision of Bush as "low-energy". Still, a great performance in most respects for Jeb!.

Chris Christie(7,10,1): +2. Governor Christie, while he can't be considered a winner of the debate, most certainly made waves on stage. Starting with a reasonably strong appeal to New Hampshirites, Chris would then ramp up his game to the max, taking to task the head of the field, Trump. Going through policy after policy point where Donald has bucked the traditional conservative path, Christie would slam Trump as a RINO and "fake conservative", leaving even the usually self-assured Donald in shock. Ben Carson, who had failed with a similar line of attack, would blush watching Christie lambast Donald, with Christie going so far as to quote from memory a passage from Trump's 2000 campaign book describing his support for a single-payer healthcare system. "I say you go join the Democrats, Don, maybe team up with socialist Bernie to take down Hillary!", Christie would mock, leaving everyone on stage, even Trump, silent. But then, the Governor would screw it up. Once he was done humiliating Trump, Christie would maintain the same tone in his closing statement, calling for a strong, stable nominee who can deliver Democratic states, all in an angry, mocking tone. To some watching, it seemed as if Christie was mocking himself with his closing statement, and the strange mismatch of his voice and words would be mocked online, turning the debate into an only moderately successful experience for Christie.

John Kasich(1,8,6): -1. John Kasich, if you heard his opening statement, looked as if he was about to be the loser of the debate. Because he forgot Ronald Reagan's name. While passionately discussing how America must turn back to the age of compassionate conservatism, Kasich would bring up the friendship of "Tip O'Niell and Don - no, Fran- no no, Ronald Graham. Wait that's wrong. Yes, yes, Ronald Reagan." In an otherwise acceptable opening statement, Kasich has forgotten Ronald Reagan's name for a few critical seconds, making a fool of himself. It was then a surprise that, with a strong appeal to independents and moderately successful attack on Trump as an "extremist", Kasich would come back, spending the rest of the debate reeling himself back to shore to end up with an only slightly damaging debate, with most voters forgetting about the Reagan incident by the close of the night.

Rand Paul(4,3,7): -1. Senator Rand Paul left the debate stage with most voters remembering him as boring at the start, and exciting only when taking on Ted Cruz. Stumbling through what was obviously meant to be a passionate opening statement listing his heterodox policy stances and declaring himself to be the voice of voters, Rand would then deliver a speech promoting oil development in a stilted voice, with many commenting that it sounded like it was handwritten by a lobbyist. It was only by attacking Ted Cruz's recent failure in New Hampshire, dodging the policy specifics of his flat tax plan in favor of delivering a scripted, short response, that would save Rand Paul's performance. Rand would slam Cruz as a Washington insider who has done nothing to fulfill his promises or help the American people. While Cruz would respond with an acceptable rebuttal, Paul would end the exchange with a fair edge, weakening Cruz's performance and boosting his own.

Ted Cruz(8,1,5): -4. Ted Cruz, while not the loser of the debate, did not perform well at all. He started with promise, declaring himself the conservative candidate to wide applause from the audience. But to Ted's dismay, an embarrassing and mocked moment declaring himself the "TEA man" appealing to the TEA Party, and an attack against Trump over experience and "liberal values" which failed to land would both drag his performance down. The final blow, however, would come from Rand Paul, who would hound Cruz over his recent mishap in New Hampshire over the specifics of his flat tax policy. While preventing disaster with his defense, Cruz would still take damage, and would end the night with a failure of a debate.

Lindsay Graham(1,4,7): -4. Walking on stage with little support, Lindsay Graham walked off stage with even less. Starting the debate with a rant declaring himself to be the next George Bush, screaming about bringing "freedom to the world!!!", Graham would come off as a joke while the moderators cut off his mic to stop the rambling. He would improve, however, giving a loud, bombastic, but less unfocused appeal to conservatives, and finally giving a passionate condemnation against everyone else on stage as Graham called for holy hell on democracy's opponents. Overall, a poor performance, though not fatal to the campaign.

Carly Fiorina(1,6,3): -6. Carly Fiorina sealed her fate in the first few minutes of the debate. In her opening statement, she would stumble through a speech declaring herself to be a business-minded candidate, touting her performance at Hewlett-Packard. However, when a moderator asked for one accomplishment from her time with the company, Fiorina froze. 30 seconds would go by, with the moderator pressing her for an answer as Carly stood in frozen silence, before finally the debate was forced to move on. Fiorina would then deliver a somewhat successful hit against Trump as a flawed businessman, before ending the debate with an unfocused and stilted appeal to blue-collar workers. A failed debate, something Fiorina and ill afford with her already low stature in the race.

Marco Rubio(4,1,4): -7. Marco Rubio felt ill walking on stage that night. Maybe he wasn't getting enough sleep, maybe his campaign trail diet of snacks and Pizza Ranch was catching up to him. He wiped the sweat off his brow. He would make tonight his, he thought. He did not. It wasn't his stilted and weak declaration that he would try to be the next Ronald Reagan as part of his opening statement, or his shaken, rushed appeal to conservatives reminiscing about the Reagan days that killed his performance. It was his decision to take on Trump. With a cold sweat raining down his face, Rubio would attack Trump, claiming he only switched parties because of Obama's mockery at the 2012 White House Correspondent's Dinner. He thought he was doing well, and as Trump responded with dismissiveness, calling him "Little Marco", Rubio decided to drive the point home. He repeated his attack, once again saying Donald just couldn't handle Obama's jokes about him. Donald points out this repetition, but Rubio didn't care. He had been prepped for this line, he would make sure every American repeated it after the debate. And as he felt a pounding headache and a weakness in his body, Rubio could hardly think of anything else to say. So, as Rubio went on to repeat the same attack 4 times, Americans did repeat it after the debate, but in mockery at the sweaty, ill-looking candidate repeating an attack like a programmed robot. A blow to the campaign to be sure.

Donald Trump(5,4,2): -11. Without the crushing assault he suffered from Christie, Trump wouldn't have met the same devastating failure he did on stage. Sure, his opening message of corruption in the establishment didn't land, his attack against Rubio as part of the establishment felt canned and lacked Trump's usual gusto, and his appeal to blue-collar voters came in a stumbling voice as he openly declared "I can't really relate to you", but it still wasn't a horrendous debate, especially compared to that of Fiorina or Rubio. But, Kasich and Fiorina both did their damage with minor, yet still harmful attacks. And, seemingly unexpected by Trump, Chris Christie would come to rock Donald's world, with a devastating and unrelenting assault over Trump's deviation from traditional conservatism. Perhaps Donald wasn't accustomed to having another big dog in the fight, but in the face of Christie's attacks, he shut down, and the onslaught would turn Donald's performance into a major blow against his campaign.

1.Dr.Carson will release national TV ad campaign slamming Trump and Jeb as dividing GOP and portraying his campaign as a "bridge" between two wings.

2.Carson campaign will launch door to door effort throughout IA

3.Carson will attempt to get financial support and endorsement from Mr.Sheldon Adelson

National Ad: 3. The campaign is criticized for poor production quality, with most voters shrugging it off and some viewing Carson to be the divisive candidate due to the attack-focused nature of the ads.

Iowa: 7. Carson's door-to-door effort will go well, with volunteers bringing in a satisfactory number of new voters.

Adelson: 7. Adelson will be modestly impressed by Carson and will donate to PACs supporting his campaign, though he'll stop short of an endorsement and will not unload his full finances for Carson.

Overall + Debate: +8. While not giving a particularly impressive showing on the campaign trail this week, Carson's debate performance more than makes up for his faulty ad campaign, and a successful canvassing operation and appeal to Sheldon Adelson both provide modest boosts to the successful week.

1. Kasich will campaign in New Hampshire talking his plan to repeat what happened in Ohio and balancing the federal budget.

2. Kasich will seek the endorsement of John McCain the 2008 Republican nominee while at a stop in Arizona.

3. Finally Kasich will hold a series of town halls in New Hampshire hoping to make connections with people and having a strong ground game.

New Hampshire: 3. Most voters just aren't enthused by the national debt as a campaign focus, and the local media point out Kasich misrepresented a few of the key numbers in his plan to balance the budget.

John McCain: 2. McCain will tell Kasich he isn't providing his support to any one candidate in the race yet, and that he doubts Kasich's ability to become the primary moderate in the race.

New Hampshire: 4. The campaign simply doesn't appear to have energy in the state, as Kasich travels the length of New Hampshire speaking to small and unenergetic crowds.

Overall + Debate: -7. After a middling performance on the debate stage, the Kasich campaign bounces from failure to failure in an unencouraging week for the candidate.

Paul pledges to end taxpayer funding for abortion, and proposes restrictions on abortions after 6 weeks, the interval at which time a fetal heartbeat can be detected.

Mitch McConnell: 8. It's a hard choice for the Senate Majority Leader, but after some intense thought he agrees to back his fellow Kentuckian for President, appearing in Iowa with Rand and bringing a needed jolt of life to the campaign.

Iowa: 6. The ad campaign and promise appeal to Paul's base and the pro-gun rights movement, but fails to bring Paul the expected surge of support from 2A activists, only a slow drip.

Iowa: 9. Paul's push on abortion, however, brings a surge of support and energy to his campaign from pro-life activists, giving a major boost to the Senator.

Overall + Debate: +7. Despite failing to impress on the debate stage, Rand makes up for it and more with the endorsement of Mitch McConnell and an increasingly strong Iowa campaign.

Ayotte: 9. Senator Ayotte agrees to endorse, drawing in new energy to Christie's New Hampshire campaign and providing the Governor a major boost.

Nevada: 8. Christie shows promise in Nevada, with the residents of Reno proving receptive to his campaign's message.

South Carolina: 10! South Carolinians will eat Christie's words up, with the packed venue cheering wildly and hailing Christie as the Republican savior during his speech.

Overall + Debate: +14! While Christie may not have won on the debate stage, he sure is winning on the campaign trail, making waves in the early states and winning an important endorsement as his campaign may be set to take off.

3.Cruz will seek the endorsement of Focus on the Family.

Iowa: 6. The rhetoric provides a moderate boost to Cruz among social conservatives and evangelicals, though enthusiasm around the gay marriage issue may be declining as time passes.

South Carolina: 1! The ad, in an amazing combination of failures, features Ted Cruz narrating Trump's past pro-choice quotes over footage of Cruz, with Donald Trump not being mentioned as the source of these statements beyond a small marker in the lower right corner of the screen in comic sans. Needless to say, the confusion and outrage are impressive, with Cruz being booed off stage by pro-life protestors while visiting South Carolina.

Focus on the Family: 10! In an immediate turnaround for the campaign, Focus on the Family will provide its endorsement, giving a major boost to Cruz among social conservatives and Christian fundamentalists.

Overall + Debate: -3. With a mixed week on the trail and failure on the debate stage, Ted Cruz fails to break through this week and continues to lose strength along the way.

New Hampshire: 8. It seems the message is finally driving home with voters, helping obfuscate the current narrative surrounding Fiorina and bringing in support.

Nevada: 9. Fiorina brings life to her Nevada campaign as pro-life voters in the state are rallied by her message.

Terry Branstad: 5. Governor Branstad will stay on the sidelines for now, refusing to give his endorsement to Fiorina at the current moment but leaving the door open.

Overall + Debate: +1. While Fiorina provides energy and strength to her time on the trail this week, her failed debate performance overshadows her campaign and prevents serious momentum from building.

Iowa: 6. The tax cut message is less effective this time, but still brings in new supporters to the Iowa campaign.

Iowa: 10! Voters are inspired by Graham's foreign policy message, with many declaring him the shield which will protect liberty and democracy on the world stage.

Iowa: 9. It may not be much, but a simple message of small government attracts a new wave of Iowa supporters to the Graham campaign.

Overall + Debate: +6. If not for his poor performance in the debate, Lindsay Graham may have sent himself flying forward in the race. Still, the Senator's time on the trail provides a major boost of momentum to his campaign.

Iowa: 8. Jeb! performs strongly campaigning in Iowa, bringing in new converts to the campaign.

Grassley: 5. Chuck refuses to surrender his endorsement for now, though he doesn't outright reject the Bush campaign.

New Hampshire: 5. The youth vote doesn't seem interested in Jeb!'s campaign, though no damage is done by the trip.

Overall + Debate: +8. While Jeb! isn't spectacularly successful on the campaign trail, his debate performance pushes his campaign forward with strength.

3. Rubio heads to New Hampshire for some more campaigning.

Sandoval: 7. Sandoval will give kind words to Rubio in the media and will state he's leaning towards an endorsement, but won't make the leap just yet, especially with the recent struggles surrounding the Rubio campaign and an unclear leading moderate candidate.

Iowa: 1! "Come on guys, we know we have to raise taxes in America. We just have to raise them." While Rubio clearly meant lower, these two sentences send the campaign into a firestorm in Iowa and nationwide, and at Rubio's next event Tea Party protestors force him off stage, showing a clear crack in Marco's coalition has formed.

New Hampshire: 4. Rubio, with hell surrounding his campaign from every angle, will seem understandably unfocused and uncentered while campaigning in New Hampshire, and this only works to degrade the quality of his campaigning.

Overall + Debate: -11. With an embarrassing debate performance and a devastating gaffe in Iowa, Marco Rubio's campaign is left under siege with collapsed momentum and an unclear future.

Trump will seek the endorsement of former speaker Newt Gingrich

Trump will rally in Iowa and talk about corruption

Trump will talk tariffs in New Hampshire

Gingrich: 4. Newt will refuse to endorse at this time, to the shock of the Trump campaign, stating he wishes to simply observe the primary process for now.

Iowa: 8. Trump's rhetoric rallies Iowans against the corrupt establishment.

New Hampshire: 8. In New Hampshire, voters see their concerns about the economy and disappearing jobs answered with Trump's strong protectionist rhetoric.

Overall + Debate: -6. If not for his horrendous debate performance, Trump may have had something this week, however Donald's failures on stage bring the campaign down, regardless of strong stumping in Iowa and New Hampshire.

1. [Iowa] (Farmers) Rand Paul visits dozens of farms in rural Iowa, meeting with voters and speaking personally to their concerns.

2. [Iowa] (Nationalists) Rand Paul runs an ad campaign in Iowa emphasizing his firm stance against illegal immigration, opposition to the 2013 immigration bill, and pledges to beef up border security with a major reinvestment in the Mexican border patrol.

3. [Iowa] (Libertarians & Nationalists?) Rand Paul runs an ad campaign in Iowa announcing that he is the first candidate in the race to pledge to end the war in Afghanistan during his first term. Paul declares that he alone can make this pledge, and he alone can fulfill it, because America deserves a president who focuses on American issues, not on forever wars halfway across the world.

Bonus Debate: Rand Paul calls for an impromptu debate to be hosted by Fox News in Louisville, Kentucky, where all Republican candidates can debate the issues and get another chance to spread their message across the nation. Paul calls on every Republican candidate to attend, and asks Larry Elder to serve as debate moderator.

Chris Christie, buoyed by support in New Hampshire, takes Trump to task in that state. He declares him an unserious candidate for President who will lose in the biggest modern landslide ever.

Christie heads over to Iowa, meeting in Des Moines for a potential endorsement by Sen. Ernst. He hopes to get his numbers up at least a bit in the Hawkeye State.

Christie ends the week in South Carolina, meeting with locals.

Man I wonder what happens to Rubio in this timeline now that his career is probably mostly ruined nationally. Although, one could argue the same occurred IRL, just in a different way? 😛
