AMPU Political Parties

Recommended Posts

So I've added a few scripted events to create some new parties, and I've also amended some of the requirements, which now allows for the Federalists and Jeffersonian Republicans to last much longer. All party formations, aside from the first for each party, has requirements that must be met.

List of Blue Party possibilities:

  • Jeffersonian Republican
  • Democratic
  • Labor
  • Liberal
  • Liberal Republican
  • Populist (1890's version)
  • Dixiecrat
  • Progressive
  • Democratic Socialist
  • American Socialist
  • American Communist
  • Green

List of Red Party possibilities:

  • Federalist
  • National Republican
  • Whig
  • Republican
  • Know Nothing
  • Conservative
  • Bull Moose
  • Party of Jesus Christ
  • American Fascist
  • Nationalist Populist (MAGA populists)
  • Libertarian

List of possibilities that could go to Blue or Red in the Era of the Future:

  • Science Party
    • Party is completely science and tech-based---aiming for efficiency and results without regards to the struggles of the people.
  • Humanitarian Party
    • The Party is human-centric in an era dominated by space, science, and technology.
  • Earth Party
    • A party more interested in affairs on Earth, the exceptionalism of the US, but opposed to human imperialism in Space
  • Universe Party
    • A party aimed at the next era of the human epoch in space and more or less approving or accepting of a world government now that the focus is on affairs outside of Earth.

Naturally the triggers for these parties will happen very late in the game.

Could I humbly recommend some name changes, just so they sound better? Just my opinions.

Science Party -> Technocratic Party

Earth Party -> Earth First Party

Universe Party -> Universal Party

Humanitarian party is fine.  I like the ideas in general.  Plenty of classic tropes to play with there.

I like these, except for Universal Party. I'm open to other ideas.

Yeah I'll admit that one was the runt of the litter, surprisingly a lot keeping me busy right after work on a Friday.  Hmmm, here, have a whole slew:  Neo-Expansionist Party, Neo-Colonization Party, Unity Coalition,  Solar Party, Dandelion Party (Ever see the Civ 3 Space victory cutscene, spreading to the cosmos like Dandelion seeds, you could see any seed-sowing metaphor here, Maybe Appleseed Party)

If you got DemSoc, we SocDems request inclusivity.

Dixiecrat could probably be better represented as Southern Conservatives as Dixiecrat only makes sense in the context of there being a Democratic Party.

Nationalist Populist is one too many ist's. Maybe go with National Populist, or Constitution (the modern rw party)

Also Tea Party

The name ideally will reflect a space-focused, one world government friendly ideology.

I have the American Socialist Party and the Democratic Socialist Party. I'm probably not going to include three socialist parties. If anything, I'll remove one of these and add the Social Democrats. On a side note, me and some friends started a Social Democratic organization in San Marcos TX in 2005, but at our 2nd meeting we were getting a lot of capitalists, misogynists, quasi-racists who just wanted to belong to something and spend most of their time arguing against the platform, although that wasn't their reason for being there.

I agree with Nationalist Populist. I think National Populists will be where I'll go with that one.

Dixiecrat is staying because of historical reasons.

Ironically the next thing that came to me is the pun "Globalsists" but that clearly won't work.

Of the names I already suggested, I think the Solar Party would be good, keeping in mind Solar is being used as in Solar System (and other star systems aren't solar systems, because their stars aren't Sol).

It's really hard to get across both ideas at once, though.  Maybe the Transplanetary Party, or something like that.

Okay, I'll see myself out.

I know it's a joke, but some of the joke parties in other countries actually have some pretty great names.  I can't remember what country it was, but there was a legit "Party Party" for awhile.

They're too single-issue for me to include them. The rest of their platform was kind of vague.

Fair. They were pretty much the Whigs anyways, just an odd twist in history not many know about!

JQ Adams rolling in his grave...

I'd also throw in the Reform Party, if you're looking for additional red party branches.

Reform could be Blue or Red actually. I might consider them.

My friend is obsessed with Reform (the H Ross Perot one). So yea having Reds or Blues with Reform as a Party (maybe with overwhelming amount of reformists in it).

I had a phase when I was kind of obsessed in 3rd parties. As I grew older and learned more and more about US History in politics, the more I learned about how impractical 3rd parties are outside of the state or local level. It works only if enough people are committed to destroying the lesser of two evils, thereby allowing the worst of two evils to rule for 4 or more years, as the new third party absorbs the major party most similar to it.

For me, allowing the Republicans to rule for at least 4 years is out of the question, so I'm not willing to sacrifice the Democrats at the moment. If the GOP ever becomes a moderate party--say with Charlie Baker or Larry Hogan leading it and most of the members aligned with them, I'd probably use all my energy for at least one election to help bolster the Green Party, for instance, since Baker or Hogan being president wouldn't be atrocious for the country. Until then, I'm only interested in 3rd parties if they're polling better than the Democrats nationally and in a way where they have a better shot at 270 EVs than the Democrats. I kind of find them as a nuisance in battleground states otherwise.

One is Kanye West's party, the other could be a good name for a joke party. In Germany, there's a joke party called "Die PARTEI" or "The Party".

Where would the Prohibition Party go? The California branch endorsed Hoover in 1928.

The American Independent Party endorsed Trump in 2016, and they were a significant force in 1968...

Also, what about the Constitutional Union Party?

Also, there were three Progressive parties (Roosevelt, LaFollette, and Wallace).
