Nixon didn't inaugurate the War on Drugs.  It really started when Kennedy signed the US onto the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs in 1961 and accelerated with LBJ's creation of the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs in 1968.

However, like most bad policies that haunt us today, its roots are in the Wilson administration.  In this case the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act of 1914, which Wilson pushed congress to pass and was supported by some of the most disgusting, racist rhetoric imaginable.

I was using wikipedia's language. I would never personally defend those practices. I oppose torture in 99% of cases, especially things like waterboarding. I only approve of it in a situation in which someone admits that they've planted a bomb or whatever that will kill people and that person won't tell us where that bomb is. In that instance, torturing one person to save many is justified, but it's only because the person has admitted to having prepared such a device.

Those just laid the foundation for it. Nixon gave a public address in which he made the War on Drugs (his term) priority number one.

My response to Van Buren’s Indian Removal enforcement is based on the assumption that he was going against Marshall’s SCOTUS opinion. If that isn’t the same, then I wouldn’t have selected that one.

To clarify on Andrew Johnson: he didn’t break any actual crime (the law he broke was made specifically for a reason to impeach him lmfao), but I still probably would’ve voted to impeach for political reasons because fuck Andrew Johnson.

Torture doesn't work.  There's mountains of evidence proving its ineffectiveness as an information gathering technique.  The only true purpose of torture is to entertain the torturer.
