Governor's Mansion- Texas

Liberal Democrats Faction Leader Selection Meeting, Speeches

George L Berry representing Cordell Hull: Look, the very fact that Representative Hull isn't here, that he is prioritizing staying in DC and fixing our countries problems is the best reason to pick him. He's obviously our most qualified choice.

Representative Sam Rayburn: You should pick me because I am the future. I am 34. I am a Representative from the safe, Democratic state of Texas and I have integrity and people like me. I was born to be Speaker of the House. Why is this even a discussion?

George L Berry: Why should we pick someone who can't even become a committee chair in the House?

Sam Rayburn: Pa Ferguson backs me

Pa Ferguson Interrupts: I'll stop you right there young man. I am backing a different horse. Plus, my friend and friend to our faction,  Texan John Nance Gardner is our Speaker now so we're doing just fine in the House.  [Pa Ferguson is nothing if not opportunistic and he could sense Rayburn's star was dimming so he was moving on to plan b.

Senate Majority Leader Henry Ashurst: Let me tell you a story about the blue ox and the yellow falcon. The yellow falcon falls asleep in some yellow paint while resting on a blue ox. He wakes up a day later and is a white lion. That's why you need to pick Peter Gerry or another one of my vulnerable Senators as faction leader. It might give them a boost. We need to protect our Senate majority at all cost. You'd think the logic and story made no sense but the Senate Majority Leader had a way of making the strangest antidote (and he had plenty of those) the most interesting and poignant sounding thing you've ever heard. The room roared with applause. More Henry!

Pa Ferguson sensing control of the faction fading away interrupts and starts a world class Texas BBQ.

After a few servings of pulled pork, Texas slaw ,etc. Pa stands up:

Pa Ferguson:  Look, now that we've all been fed, let's have a real chat. This country needs generals. Generals. Nobody produces a general like Texas. That's why I am nominating Chester Nimitz as faction leader. He's 31. He's younger than Sam. plus he's already a 2 military with naval experience and is a decisive general. You pick Chester and we'll have ourselves the next Napoleon.

@Lars @Vols21 @Willthescout7 @Ich_bin_Tyler @OrangeP47 @bradleyg223 @ShortKing @pman @0ccultist @Murrman104 Update expertise and committee chair/memberships (Columns EM for Chair and EN for membership) And..

Faction Leaders 1916-1918

Remember that

Quote
  • The faction leader must have an Ideology, and either an Interest or Lobby that matches the cards of the faction, since he or she is expected to represent thhat faction.

  • Faction leader must have “Leadership”

  • cannot be on the “career track.”

  • cannot have the trait “lackey”

  • cannot have the “obscure” trait.

  • A non-president, non-incumbent party leader with “passive” has a 25% chance of declining the role, unless they are the only option.

  • If no statesmen meet these requirements, then omit the “leadership” and “lackey” requirements.. If they still can’t meet the requirement, omit the interest/lobby requirement.  If they still can’t, void the “career track” and “obscure” trait requirements and settle exclusively for having the right ideology.

Also designate if your faction leader is running for Party Leader (red team only)

The School Book Liberals will choose one of the leading legal scholars of our age: Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. (Mod, Military expertise). Holmes will not run for party leader but will endorse another great leader for the GOP once he is named.

Update from the desk of the Justice: Hughes is a great man with whom I have served and he has my full-throated endorsement to lead our great party and nation.

My only option, but probably who I'd pick anyway, is Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin.  He doesn't have leadership, but that's the first thing to be omitted.  I'll put him up for party leader.

We’ll go with Rep Sam Rayburn

+1 Command, +1 Governing, gains disharmonious (or loses harmonious, which cancels out))

@0ccultist

Wilson gains Reformist, gains harmonious (or loses disharmonious which cancels out) as faction leader. Gains +1 gov, and controversial for being re-elected as party leader.

6 minutes ago, Willthescout7 said:

Charles Evans Hughes will be my faction leader on dint of being the only guy not obscure. I will of course run this great man as Party Leader

Gains leadership, +1 command, gains uncharismatic (or chancels out charismatic),
