Pingree Pingree Pingree Pingree Pingree Pingree Pingree Pingree
Michaud Michaud Michaud Poliquin Poliquin Golden Golden Golden

King is basically a Democrat. This state is leans Blue. Collins has masterfully kept her seat as a the sole GOP Senator for New England, and I think also out of the entire US Legislature. If not for GOP governors, the GOP would be wiped out of an entire region.

Frisch was really smart to concede to nutjob Boebert. Had he contested the election it would just justify her own election denial stances. This makes Frisch seem ultra reasonable and stable and could help him defeat her in 2024. Overall, Colorado is a Lean to Likely Blue state. I think if inflation were not an issue, that the GOP could have been knocked down to one office.

Really enjoyed going through these so thanks for making them.  Very easy to see the trends mapped out this way.

I actually have them going back to the beginning of statehood for each state but making them wider would be an issue so picked 2008 as the start date here.

The 2008 Obama wave sees a Democrat on this chart for the first time since 1974. In 2022, Peltola actually defeats Sarah Palin twice, once in a special election and once in the general election. Her election sees Democrats holding every House district that touches the Pacific Ocean! Murkowski is dark red for 2022 only because her opponent was also a Republican. These charts are well the party did in the election.

I still haven't posted CA because of one race remaining. I need to repost GA after the special election. I may end up posting both because I think it's clear who will win both elections, even if they are technically tossups.

The final 2022 race in this state was settled. The most significant elections in CA were 2012 and 2018. The former because in a Red Wave election, CA Dems held despite so many seats to defend. In 2018, reaction to Trump saw a bunch of GOPer voted out.

I would say 2008 for the Dems and 2010 for the Repubs would be probably the start of their "modern party" era so wise choice.

Yeah, it's hard to tell for sure. I'd say 1988 might be a good candidate for that too. Dukakis lost, but he was the first Democrat to win a lot of the standards states won by Democrats since then. However, the Democrats of Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004 seem very Clintonesque, compared to Obama. The 2010 Republicans don't seem much different to me from the 1990s Gingrich Republicans, but it's always so hard to tell. 2008 and 2010 are definitely possibilities, but things seem to evolved rather than just spring up at a specific time.

This is why I would consider 2016 the date the "modern party" starts. 2010 got the ball rolling with the rise of the Tea Party but they don't really properly take over until after Trump wins in 2016 and gives them a proper leader and identity other than "muh obamacare and taxes bad".
