Divided Government from FDR to the Present

  1. Presidents who had the US Senate for their entire Presidency:
    1. FDR (only president to serve 8+ years w/ the Senate)
    2. JFK
    3. LBJ
    4. Carter
    5. Trump
    6. Biden (so far)
  2. Presidents who never had the US Senate:
    1. Nixon (Served the longest without a US Senate, not quite two full terms)
    2. Ford
    3. GHW Bush
  3. Presidents who had the US House for their entire Presidency:
    1. FDR (only president to serve 8+ years w/ the House)
    2. JFK
    3. LBJ
    4. Carter
    5. Biden (TBD)
  4. Presidents who never had the US House:
    1. Nixon
    2. Ford
    3. Reagan (only full two-termer to never have the US House!)
    4. GHW Bush
  5. Presidents who held both Houses of Congress for their entire presidency:
    1. FDR
    2. JFK *Strangely accomplished almost nothing legislatively*
    3. LBJ
    4. Carter *Undermined legislatively with his own political ineptitude*
    5. Biden (TBD)
  6. President who never held the US Senate or US House
    1. Nixon *Signed a lot of major legislation despite this*
    2. Ford
    3. GHW Bush
