(ignore this if the Federalist slot gets otherwise filled!)

Name: Artemis Gansevoort

Age: 43

Party: Federalist

Office: Secretary of War

Platform

National Strength: Focus on adding states to the union, advocate against slavery but don't touch the issue otherwise for now. The slave trade will die out on its own in due time, but we should focus on setting a strong economic foundation for our nation now rather than touch on such controversial issues.

Military Strength: Continue to build up a strong army and navy. Establish a US military academy and naval academy. Be prepared to defend our borders should relations grow icy. Should Spain or France grow to encroach on our borders, we must be ready to not illy repel their invasion but to launch one of our own on their colonial possessions in North America.

Foreign Affairs: The British are our natural allies being cousins of our nation, and we cannot shed our common heritage and shared language. They are our preferred partners over the French, who’s radical revolutionaries are not the same government who provided assistance to us during our much more reasonable war of independence.

Economy: Push for the renewal of a stronger national bank. Increase tariffs.

Trade: Increase tariffs. This will bring in much needed revenue and help build our manufacturing base in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

Budget: Paying down the debt should be a priority, but we also need a strong military. If we increase our tariffs and consider new taxes carefully, our pocket book will be zeroed out in no time.

Immigration: Keep it as it is. unlimited immigration would lead to the triumph of the radical principles of the French Revolution over those of the more moderate American Revolution. It must remain limited and those coming in have work to do proving themselves to have shed their previous allegiances.

@ConservativeElector2

Secretary Gansevoort extends his support in their shared bid for the presidency. While Gansevoort is fully prepared to serve as the commander in chief and lead the nation, he seeks to have a strong relationship with Senator Blumenau and would happily serve as his VP if the electorate decides as such. May the better man take the victory and the top of the ticket, and may God bless the Federalists!

Name: Alexander Carroll

Age: 42

Party: Washington Independent

Office (if Senate, say what class): US Attorney General

State Of Origin: Virginia

Platform

National Strength: Promote Westward expansion with a focus on contained and proper settlement which limits bloodshed and allows for secure development in newly settled areas. Place no specific focus on who should be settling out West, and though we should place a focus on the Northwest, general movement West should be promoted within proper limits. The Federal government should have no concern with whether a potential state would be free or slave aligned.

Military Strength: Promote contained and reasonable expansion to the armed forces, with a pledge to propose a bill establishing a small standing army.

Foreign Affairs: America should not tie itself too heavily to any one specific world power. Stand up for any treaties we currently have, but ensure that America is able to establish stable trade ties with all nations, and forge a path in foreign policy which is agreeable to all Americans.

Economy: Steady as she goes. Promote an independent treasury and push for proper industrialization in the North alongside a defense and protection of our nation's rural and farming populace.

Trade: We need tariffs in place to help protect our industry and generate revenue, but we cannot simply cast aside the interests of entire regions in our nation. Work with the South actively in formulating tariff policy, and work to both protect American industry and defend the South's interests.

Budget: We should work towards a balanced budget, however as of now the growth and stability of our nation should be our top priority.

Immigration: Promote proper immigration to help develop our nation, but no major changes need to be made our immigration policy at this time.

The Election of 1796

Both Federalists and Democratic-Republicans, as well as the smaller Liberty party, have forwarded two candidates each, with the intention of winning both the Presidency and the Vice Presidency. John Walton, the Senator from Georgia, is the early favorite with high recognition among the national electorate and high approval with them as well. The Federalists are close behind each other, but Secretary of War Artemis Gansevoort has a higher rating among his home region, which allows him to get the preliminary edge. John Hooker, the American nominee from Tennessee, has a load road ahead of him with a low recognition score among the electorate, and a semi-hostile home base. Douglas Rider, the Liberty candidate from Pennsylvania, has a much higher national foundation than his fellow Liberty partier, Oliver Wilson, another representative.

National Polling

National Polling matters even less than it does normally, but I am putting it anyway 😛

John Walton (Democratic-Republican), Senator from Georgia: 22.5%

Artemis Gansevoort (Federalist), Secretary of War from New York: 19.3%

James Otis (Democratic-Republican), Governor from New Hampshire: 16.4%

Tristan Blumenau (Federalist), Senator from New Hampshire: 14.9%

Alexander Carroll (Independent), Attorney General from Virginia: 11.4%

John Hooker (American), Senator from Tennessee: 5.1%

Douglas Rider (Liberty), Representative from Pennsylvania: 3.5%

Oliver Wilson (Liberty): Representative from New Jersey: 1.9%

Undecided: 5%

Change: With how little down-ballot races there are, the major parties (Feds and D-Rs) will be receiving events for House, Governor, and Senate each turn as they want. American, Independents, and Liberty will all receive 2. The races will also be impacted by presidential events to some extent. Feel free to do bare minimum with down-ballot events especially. Just need to know where and for what race.

Polls: To request a poll, either DM me here or on Discord. It is 1 a turn. I'm just going to be doing Presidential race polling, because I'm doing more of a point system for the down-ballot races.

Newspaper Endorsements (beginning)

Two hotly contested states in this election cycle will be New York and Pennsylvania. The two states are sitting at a crossroads between Federalist candidates and Democratic-Republican candidates. The two largest newspapers in those states, the Philadelphia Gazette and the New York Daily Advertiser are up for grabs. I'll roll a D10 like the other events for these, and whatever you roll, it goes up by that much.

Philadelphia Gazette Ratings

(must have 50 points to secure endorsement)

Artemis Gansevoort: 35

John Walton: 31

James Otis: 28

Tristan Blumenau: 25

Alexander Carroll: 20

Douglas Rider: 13

John Hooker: 6

Oliver Wilson: 3

New York Daily Advertiser Ratings

Beginning Turn 1

Alright 🙂 We've finally got it all settled! So, do your 3 presidential events (for now, being moving candidate scores, either of the two newspaper endorsements, or traditional campaigning), X amount of down-ballot events, and we're set! If you want to establish with a teammate (Feds, D-Rs, and Liberty), how many each person wants to do for down ballot each turn, or if you want to play it by ear, either is good with me. Thank you all for joining and see you next turn! (The others may be a little less lengthy than this for ease of my understanding 😛 )

Event 1: Otis writes a letter to the editor of the New York Daily Advertiser, where he presses the fact that he will not be a radical, and that he is in favor of moderation, and bipartisanship.

Event 2: Otis supporters in New York spread rumors that Gansevoort's appointment to the position of Secretary of War, was solely due to his personal relationship with the Federalist Vice-President.

Event 3: Otis's supporters in South Carolina work to secure the state's support for the Otis/Walton ticket. They talk about the Republican platform, and how it is important that both a Northerner, and a Southerner be elected to the Presidency to maintain national unity.

Presidential Events

1. (Boost National Recognition) John Hooker works with other prominent nativists to found a Newspaper Company of their own. It is unveiled in Boston as “The American Herald”, and serves as a mouthpiece for nativist politicians and advocates for anti-immigration policy. The pages are filled with stories of Irish rapists, Jacobin spies, and job-stealing immigrants. Naturally, the newspaper endorses Hooker’s campaign for president, along with down ballot races especially in Massachusetts.

2. (Boost National Recognition) John Hooker makes waves by calling for the creation of a House Un-American Activities Committee, in response to allegations of Jacobin spies infiltrating the United States Government. Hooker speaks to numerous journalists and newspaper owners, claiming to have lists of names of Jacobin spies in government.

3. (Boost National Recognition) John Hooker publicly calls for a “Catholic Ban” barring or severely restricting immigration from numerous majority catholic nations like Spain and Ireland. He makes a speech advocating the move in downtown New York.

”When Ireland sends their people, they’re not sending their best. They’re bringing crime, they’re bringing booze, they’re rapists. And some of them, I assume, are good people. But when I talk to the good American families in coastal cities like these, they are terrified by the crime spikes. Are we just going to sit around and do nothing about this? Look, this kind of policy is common sense. We need to protect the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant families of this country before they are mongrelized and murdered in their homes.

Event 1 (Newspaper Endorsement - Philadelphia Gazette): John Walton heads up to Philly for the beginning of the week, hoping to use his national prominence to sway the Gazette into endorsing his campaign. He emphasizes how he's the man to succeed President Washington as he will honor his legacy, fight for the working men, and reject the elitist principles of Federalists.

Event 2: Walton sends a letter to his most enthusiastic supporters in southern Pennsylvania. Many of them farmers, and laborers. He tells them to spread the good word on the streets and build up some energy. Walton seeks to establish an image around him as the man who's worthy to succeed President Washington, and the man to fight the good fight for everyday Americans.

Event 3: Walton criticizes the audacity of some Presidential candidates going out and campaigning on their own in a Savannah newspaper, which spreads throughout the states over time. However, in order to further his own image, Walton will spread the news that he's allowing supporters to visit his plantation for a tour of the farm and discussion with the man himself! Free drinks and sandwiches while you wait! Walton hopes this will establish him as a more friendly character, but also relatable. As he's not one to shy away from puttin' in an honest days work on the farm. (Boost Candidate Score- Integrity?)

Event 2: Gansevoort will also write to editors of the Philadelphia Gazette, arguing that he is the only candidate in the race that can truly succeed Washington and fight for the ideals of our Republic.

Event 3: Gansevoort’s supporters will schmooze with their friends and family, with prominent mayors and state legislators across the country organizing a push for their constituents and city elite to view the Secretary more favorably. (Boost - National Popularity)

Roundup

The first week of campaigning is done and dusted! The biggest mover this week is undoubtedly Governor Otis of New Hampshire, the Democratic-Republican. Two uberly successful events in NY and SC culminated with a good meeting with the NY Daily Advertiser. Meanwhile, Alexander Carroll of Virginia struggled in his campaigning around the Mid-Atlantic, which is the party's heartlands. Down the ballot, American candidates are surging in the Northeast House districts, particularly in wealthy NYC and Boston, to the surprise of some of its more 'posh' members. Likewise, the Liberty party is doing well in the NY House.

There has been some changing with the newspapers.

Philadelphia Gazette

Gansevoort - 37
Walton - 36
Blumenau - 29
Otis - 28
Carroll - 20
Rider - 13
Hooker - 6
Wilson - 3

NY Daily Advertiser

Otis - 41
Gansevoort - 34
Blumenau - 26
Walton - 23
Carroll - 18
Rider - 10
Hooker - 6

Wilson - 6

Otis is gaining towards being endorsed by NY's largest newspaper, with Gansevoort on his heels. Meanwhile, the Gazette  is closely fought between Gansevoort and Walton. Still, both are relatively open, the Gazette moreso than New York's largest newspaper.

There will be a polling update after Turn 3, as well as an update on the electoral map and race ratings. Turn 2 has now begun! 🙂 Thank you all for the speed that you went with today!

Presidential Events

Event 1 (Boost National Recognition): John Hooker launches a vicious ad campaign in the New England area targeting the nativist crowd. The ads depict caricaturized Irish immigrants brutalizing a young British Woman. The Irish immigrants are depicted with sloping heads and jutting jaws in typical racist stereotype fashion. Near the edge of the ad is a catholic priest rubbing his hands together and smiling devilishly at the act taking place. Underneath the ad is a massive bolded slogan.

”Open your doors for papists, lose your wives to rapists”

Event 2 (Boost National Recognition): John Hooker takes his secret list of jacobin spies to congress, giving out three names to start what will hopefully become a frenzy of francophobia. The names he gives out are of two French nationals and a Democratic Republican state legislator from New Jersey who was staunchly supportive of France.

Event 3 (Boost National Recognition): John Hooker holds a massive nativist rally in Boston, gathering a mob of locals to burn effigies of the pope and hurl slurs at the immigrant population. He also loudly criticizes the “Mainstream Media” for being dishonest and trying to hurt his campaign, bringing up the major establishment newspapers fierce opposition to his candidacy.

Otis supporters appeal to the burgeoning immigrant population in New York City, by attacking Gansevoort as anti-immigrant, and claiming he would trample the 1st amendment, by implementing a religious requirement to become a citizen, thereby outlawing non-protestant immigration.

Otis again writes a letter to the NYDA, mentioning the widespread roomers of Gansevoort's corruption, and reassuring the newspaper that any appoints he makes will be based off of competence, not personal ties, or party loyalty.

Otis supporters will publish story after story about the virtues of Otis in an attempt to get his name into the popular consciousness (Boost National Recognition)
