Gansevoort will write to the Alexandria Times, seeking their endorsement.

Gansevoort will also try his luck with the newly opened Federal Gazette in Maryland, where he hopes to build a coalition of Southern Federalists.

Finally, a memoir will be published in papers across the nation on the Secretary Gansevoort, increasing his name recognition with electors and citizens alike.

Roundup

This week, Attorney General Carroll finally saw a rebound in some states that he hadn't visited much so far in this campaign: Maryland and Pennsylvania. Other than that, Georgia Senator Walton continues to rise in the polls, with no seeming end in sight. The Federalists are putting up only token opposition, and it's possible the Democratic-Republicans could go 1-2 in the first round, not to say when VP voting takes effect and the remnants of Walton's support follows to Otis. Downballot, the two main parties continue to struggle. It looks like it could be a patchwork Congress, but even that may not prove to be much in the way of the future President, who will need to work on admitting new states and protecting the United States from foreign adversaries, French and British.

There has been some changing with our newspapers

Walton is ready to be endorsed by the largest newspapers in Maryland and in Virginia, providing him a key stabilizing force in those states ahead of a grueling middle of the campaign in battlegrounds of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. As long as he can hold, he can win. It will be the job of the other candidates to stop him from getting to that threshold. 🙂

That is the end of turn 4. Next up is turn 5, our halfway point!

Roundup

The big news of the week was the Federal Gazette of Maryland's endorsement of Sen. Walton's campaign, which provided his camp a much needed boost in the state of Maryland (at the expense of Sen. Hooker and Atty. General Carroll, who both struggled in Maryland today). The Liberty Party has finally began to struggle a bit as both candidates tried to lock support around one another, but it hurt in New Jersey as Rider has begun to get a reception as "the" Liberty candidate, while Wilson hopes to hold down his home state. The race is still firmly Walton's to lose, and Otis has done a good job at shoring up Democratic-Republican electors behind the unofficial ticket. The Federalist Gansevoort and Democratic-Republican Otis got into a bit of a snarling match this week between their backers, which benefitted the other Federalist in the race mostly: Sen. Blumenau.

The Federal Gazette has endorsed Walton (received exactly 50 points)

Walton - 50
Gansevoort - 37
Otis - 27
Carroll - 26
Hooker - 20
Blumenau - 17
Rider - 10
Wilson - 5

The other two newspapers continue

Alexandria Times

Walton - 45
Gansevoort - 39
Carroll - 35
Otis - 22
Hooker - 18
Blumenau - 12
Rider - 7
Wilson - 4

Massachusetts Mercury

Blumenau - 35
Rider - 33
Gansevoort - 31
Otis - 26
Wilson - 20
Carroll - 15
Hooker - 12
Walton - 7

The Alexandria Times hasn't endorsed yet, but Walton still remains firmly in the driver's seat. If another candidate would've visited them this turn, who knows what would've happened, but right now it looks like he will be endorsed by the paper. The Mercury is another story. It looks like a four way race between Blumenau, Rider, Gansevoort, and Otis there.

End of turn 5! 🙂 Race update after this next turn (6). Thank you all!

Otis sends some of his best orators to the state of Connecticut to stump for him.

Otis newspapers will respond to the slanderous lies of the Gansevoort campaign by writing detailed stories of Otis's heroism during the revolutionary war as a major in the 1st New Hampshire regiment, with a particular fondness for his valor during the Battle of Bennington.

Otis writes to the Massachusetts Mercury trying to get their support once again. This time he emphasizes the fact that he is a bipartisan moderate, while both Gansevoort, and Blumenau are both partisan hacks who would tear apart the young country, and rip up the Bill of Rights.

1. Gansevoort continues on the offensive against Otis, continuing to cast doubt on his time in the Revolutionary War.

2. Gansevoort’s supporters write to their mayors, city councilors, state executives and state legislators to convince them of why Gansevoort is the candidate best poised to run the country. (Boost - National Popularity)

3. Gansevoort’s family will take a prominent spotlight in New York City where he presides. His wife Kathleen will easily dispel any rumors of a marital affair, lest of all with a black slave when the family does not even own slaves. (Boost - Integrity)
