My own votes for Romney surprised me.  I despised him for his anti-LGBT views in 2012 despite still considering myself to be a moderate independent at the time.  He was just too archaic for our country.

And now he's the closest thing the Republican Party (the actual Republican party, not what it turned into) has to having any hope for the future.

I've always personally liked Romney ever since he said he liked the Three Stooges in an interview, but I'd never vote for him.

I think the events since the 2012 campaign have shown Romney to be fairly prescient on a number of issues, most notably Russia, and also serve to show how far the GOP has strayed from its traditional orthodoxy. For McCain and Romney to have been that clear-eyed on the threat Russia posed both to us and to its neighbors, only for them to be proven right as their own party develops a significant and loud wing of leaders calling for us to back down and get out is a disheartening development.
