Jay calls Madison hypocritical. He suggests that if Congress must impeach remove Hamilton, they must also do the same to Jefferson. He also retracts his vote for Hamilton but still notes that Jefferson is a slaveholder while Hamilton opposes slavery.

Rumors spread that John Jay might create a Straight Federalist Party with Rufus King because of Adams's support for impeaching Hamilton.

It is questionable if they have any truth in them, though.

A newspaper publishes a rumor that John Jay said that if America treats men with black skin as inferior to men with white skin like Elizabeth Hamilton and all the "barbarians" in the South, he would work together with other to make New England secede from the Union and possibly even merge with "old" England once again...
