Reginald Maudling makes statement about Labour Party Economic Agenda.

“The people of Britain, welcome. I have come today to speak of the agenda released by the Labour Party recently. My closest allies in Parliament and I have spoken extensively on the issue, and come to an agreement on the agenda. For the most part, this agenda is harmful to the people of the United Kingdom, and would no doubt make the economic problems in this nation worse, rather than better. These left-wing economic policies simply are not sustainable in any realistic way. The Labour Party thinks that increasing taxes, expanding nationalization of social services, and increasing regulations will help to fix the problems that these policies created in the first place. Let me say it right here and right now: We can not continue in the direction that this country has been going, yet this is precisely what Prime Minister Benn is doing! We need to take the direction of the economy and turn it around, not step on the gas! What the people of Britain need is for the Government to pursue policies of deregulation, denationalization, and allowing the economy to be controlled by the people who actually understand it - businessmen - not power-hungry politicians.”

“However, I will say that I am willing to work with Mr. Benn on the issue of trade. Implementing import tariffs would be crucial towards promoting the independence of Britain from the rest of the World. We must incentivize creating and buying British-made products, and tariffs are the best way to do this. However, I would go to Mr. Benn, and call him to go one step further, take more action, and withdraw from the European Economic Community. It is a shame that we are being forced to comply with other nations on issues in which they don't understand what the people of Britain need. For the sake of British independence and British nationalism, it is imperative that on top of implementing tariffs on other nations, we leave this godforsaken community and continue on our own path, without the meddling of other nations.”

Peter Shore comes out in support of Labour agenda

“Ladies and gentlemen I would like to commend Prime Minister Benn for his vigorous economic agenda, now I would like to remind my friends in the opposition, That while we want to complete every part of our economic agenda but we do understand that we need bipartisanship and that we need to work together, I understand tensions have been high as of late, but I think we here in parliament need to hash out our differences and come up with legislation that can help the majority of the citizens because this is about them this is not about us.”

Labour's economic plan passes inexplicably! Historians will forever try to figure out what caused the strange defections form the VPU and UUP that ultimately allowed the bill to pass!

Rebels from the main two parties include Roy Jenkins, notable for his abstention in the No Confidence motion and little known Conservative backbencher Anthony Meyer.

Jenkins made it clear that his vote against the Party stemmed from his belief that Benn is shifting the party too far left and out of electable territory. Jenkins also claimed that he could not conscience helping such a motion to pass.

Meyer's views paralleled those of Jenkins. Meyer made a similar point about being unable to vote for the bill but at the same time stated that he wouldn't actively oppose a measure to help the failing economy.

Shadow Secretary of State for the Home Department Reginald Maudling introduces Public Bill to Parliament.

Secretary Maudling introduces the "Voluntary Return for Immigrants and their Descendants Bill", which would offer 1st and 2nd generation immigrants to the United Kingdom 350£ to return to their country of origin. He states that the bill would help to "save the homogeneity of the British population, all while providing for those who wish to seek a better life with that opportunity, yet back in their home country, rather than in ours." He speaks of the fact that the British economy would be better suited not having an overload of new people coming in and overflowing the nation, and that incentives to decrease the amount of immigrants in the nation would prevent harm to the democracy of the nation that comes from a change in composition of the population.

Ed Heath proposes bill repealing Labour tax increases. Eliminates Mansion and Wealth Tax.

"The passing of the initial Labour plans are only going to cripple our nation's economy further. I must introduce a bill removing these tax hikes on the British people that in the end, will only hurt them further. It must stop."

David Steel proposes the Choice for Scotland Act

David Steel, lead of the Liberals, proposes the Choice for Scotland Act, in which Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland would be allowed votes upon devolved parliaments. While it allows for all parliaments, he named it for Scotland because of his homeland there. 🙂 Liberals press for a vote on the Act in Parliament and support from other political parties as well. He cites numerous Scottish voters who personally told him they supported a devolved Parliament

Benn will signal his support for the bill, and also state that he hopes to amend it to allow for a referendum on an English devolved parliament as well.

Eric Heffer proposes the Public Works, and Infrastructure Act of 1976. The act would institute a government works program, creating jobs by funding the building of new national, and regional infrastructure, and public works projects, as well as upgrades to existing infrastructure, and public works projects. The work would be comprised 65% by the British Construction Agency, a new government agency that would employ the unemployed to work in the building, improving, and maintaining of national, and regional infrastructure, and the other 35% would be contracted out to privately owned British construction companies.

The Labour Party will try, and encourage George Wilson, the leader of the Sheffield City Council, to run in the upcoming Rotherham-by-election. Leaders like Tony Benn, Michael Foot, and Barb Castle will campaign heavily in the district in the hopes of preserving the Labour majority.

Ted Heath immediately proposes an amendment flipping the numbers on government investment and private investment. He states that an economic recovery lies in the success British businesses. And they should have more access to the opportunities as opposed to the Government.

Barbara Castle will jump in, and propose a compromise, where the split between private contracts, and public contracts would equal 50-50, rather than either Heath's proposal that would see private business dominate public works, or the original proposal that would see private businesses dominated by government intervention. She makes it clear that she prefers the original bill, but that she also believes compromising, and ending the recession is more important than ideological purity.

James Callaghan, Roy Jenkins, and other major LabRights will throw their support behind this proposed amendment, believing it to provide a proper compromise and strengthen the proposed Act by ensuring a balance of public and private involvement in the proposed program.

While still expressing distaste with the bill, Heath finds the compromise agreeable.

Maudling will urge his supporters to vote against the Public Works and Infrastructure Act of 1976, stating that the government needs to stay away from business, and that there should be no federal construction agency.

Liberals will be free to vote on the Public Works bill. They back the Tory bill to get rid of the wealth and mansion taxes.

They will attempt to convince to run a niece of the former MP for Hazel Grove, Anna Ford for the Rotherham by-election, as the seats are not horribly far apart.

The Labour Party will attempt to peel off Old Tory voters in opposition to the Conservative bill to slash taxes, by promising favorable concessions in the areas of trade, and migration policy. Benn asks Dennis Skinner, and Peter Shore (if @Sean F Kennedy consents to his use in this event, if not, Benn only request that Skinner, and Michael Foot spearhead the aforementioned efforts) to spearhead the efforts, due to the fact they're both Anti-European Union.

Benn also requests that prominent moderate parliamentarians like Jim Callaghan, Anthony Crosland, and Denis Healey, direct their efforts with regards to the bill, to picking off left wing, and moderate One Nation Tories (If @The Bloodconsents to this strategy, if not, disregard this part) .

Maudling privately reiterates to Old Tory MPs that defectors have no future in Conservative Party Leadership to make sure that every single Old Tory votes for the bill.

(Sorry for the short turn, you know I love the flava but I’m leading a retreat until Friday evening so spotty responses)

Thatcher will instruct her MPs to remain in steadfast opposition to all instances of economic collectivization coming from Number 10. Even if the Leader of the Opposition is willing to compromise, true blue Tories are to “hold the line” for economic Liberty.

(God I wish I had the mental bandwidth to write this speech. I have so many great ideas for it. Just imagine maximum epic Thatcher carnage here 😌)

Shadow Secretary for Energy and Industrial Strategy Nigel Lawson will introduce the “Economic Liberty Defense Act” which will suspend executive power to nationalize any new industry or collectivize any sector or business except upon a qualified majority in Parliament (2/3rds).

Shadow Secretary for Health and Social Services Geoffrey Howe will lead the Thatcherite support of Heaths proposed tax cuts.

Thatcherites will oppose the devolution attempt as outside the mainstream and a dangerous invitation for domestic infighting at a type when our enemies lay not within the United Kingdom but in the 2nd world.
