vcczar
Linn Boyd of KY could have been a much more major figure, but he had a hard time getting elected in the 1830s and early 1840s with Clay's Whigs being so dominant in the state. He then also died earlier than expected, right before the Civil War. It would have been interesting to see if he had joined the CSA or not. I could see him going either way. His actions: Boyd, Linn 1845 Big role in pushing TX Annexation through Boyd, Linn 1847 Comes in second in Speaker election Boyd, Linn 1848 Declines push to run for Gov of KY Boyd, Linn 1850 A leading role in getting Comp of 1850 through House Boyd, Linn 1851 Elected Speaker of the US House Boyd, Linn 1856 Considered for Dem VP, but went to fellow KY pol Breckinridge
vcczar
I'm not strong in my opinion of him. I trend away from Southern Democrats unless they give me a good reason to support them.
