vcczar
William Colmer of MS started out as a supporter of FDR, but disliked most of the New Deal. By 1954, he's basically abandoned the Democratic party on the national level. I imagine he voted for Wallace in 1968, but I can't establish who he supported in that election. He stayed with the Democrats at the end despite opposing them. His actions: Colmer, William 1945 Colmer Committee regarding postwar adjustment Colmer, William 1954 Plays a big role in getting Southerners to sign the Southern Manifesto, protesting desegregation Colmer, William 1960 Refuses to vote for JFK or Nixon Colmer, William 1961 a conservative power on House Rules Colmer, William 1964 Votes Goldwater rather than LBJ to protest civil rights Colmer, William 1972 Votes Nixon over McGovern Colmer, William 1972 While a Democrat, supports GOP nom Trent Lott to succeed him as US Rep for MS
