BR Curtis was one of two justices to dissent on Dred Scott. Curtis was so outraged he resigned. However, he wasn't an abolitionist, as you can see in actions 1863 and 1864. He was one of a number of politicians that thought Lincoln incompetent.

His actions:

Curtis, Benjamin R 1851 Confirmed to SC for Fillmore, the only Whig to ever serve on the SC
Curtis, Benjamin R 1857 Resigns from SC in protest of Dred Scott decision
Curtis, Benjamin R 1863 Opposes Lincoln's Emancipation Proclaimation, believing it to be unconstitutional
Curtis, Benjamin R 1864 Supports McClellan over Lincoln
Curtis, Benjamin R 1868 Counsel for defense in Johnson impeachment case
Curtis, Benjamin R 1868 Declines Johnson's offer of Att Gen, following impeachment trial
