vcczar
Pete Domenici (NM-R) was especially influential in the 1980s. His biological grandson mentioned below would be the GOP nom for Gov and US Sen for NV, but would lose both times. Domenici was one of several GOPers during the impeachment trial to hypocritically condemn Clinton's affair, while also either having had their own affairs in the past or currently having affairs. The point of the impeachment was lying under oath, but the rhetoric was geared at Clinton as "family man" and as "Christian." I'm not defending Clinton's affair. His actions were wrong. I'm just highlighting the hypocrisy. His actions: Domenici, Pete 1972 1st GOPer elected to US Sen for NM in 38 years Domenici, Pete 1978 A then unknown affair w/ 24-year-old daughter of Sen. Paul Laxalt produces illegitimate son (Adam Laxalt) Domenici, Pete 1981 Influential Senate Budget Committee Chair. Served 6 years of Reagan-Reaganomics. Domenici, Pete 1981 cooperates with Dole to enact TEFRA Domenici, Pete 1987 Helped override Reagan's veto of Civil Rights Act Domenici, Pete 1995 Influential Senate Budget Committee Chair. Clinton surplus. Served 6 years again (total 12 years) Domenici, Pete 1996 Strongly advocates the Mental Health Parity Act Domenici, Pete 1998 Votes to impeach Clinton despite having himself had an affair w/ 24-year-old in 1978 (stlll unknown to the public at this time) Domenici, Pete 2008 Admonished by Sen Ethics committee for minor scandal involved inappropriate contact with Justice Department in 2006 Domenici, Pete 2013 Now 4 years out of office, acknowledges his affair in 1978 and that Adam Laxalt is his biological son

I had no idea about the affair! He really faded into obscurity.
