GF Edmunds (VT-R) was a major Republican in the 1880s. He was considered a half-breed, and the favored one of Theodore Roosevelt. JG Blaine never forgave Edmunds when many of Edmund's supporters went for Cleveland ("Mugwumps") in the general electiong of 1884. Edmunds personally supported Blaine, but that wasn't enough apparently.
