His actions: English, William H 1848 Supports Cass at Dem Conv, the eventual nominee English, William H 1854 Reluctantly votes for KS-NE Act, believing it unnecessary English, William H 1858 advances a KS bill (English Bill) as compromise on KS slavery issue; KS reject slavery on passage b/c free state English, William H 1861 War Democrat, despite having been an ally of conservative Copperhead Sen.
