Both the general, and Sen. John Sherman, were probably helped in their respective careers by Ewing. His actions: Ewing, Thomas 1836 resolution to annul Jackson's Specie Circular Ewing, Thomas 1841 Confirmed Sec of Treasury for Harrison Ewing, Thomas 1841 Resigns in protest from Tyler cabinet w/ much of the cabinet Ewing, Thomas 1849 Confirmed Sec of Interior for Taylor Ewing, Thomas 1850 His daughter marries his foster son, William T Sherman Ewing, Thomas 1861 At peace conference to try and resolve secession Ewing, Thomas 1868 Appt Sec of War by Johnson but Senate refused to act on it b/c Johnson's firing of Stanton Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
