vcczar
Hal D Flood of VA was a typical Southern Democrat of the period. He's also a good example for showing a politician who was strongly isolationist until it was "time" to declare war. He was probably a co-author on the Declaration to win over support from other isolationists. His action: Flood, Hal D. 1911 Flood Amendment helps pass NM statehood Flood, Hal D. 1913 Influential House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair. Serves through WWI Flood, Hal D. 1915 warns against US abandoning peace stand Flood, Hal D. 1916 assures Germany US wants friendship Flood, Hal D. 1916 lobbies Wilson against war involvement Flood, Hal D. 1917 Helps author declaration of war against Germany
vcczar
I'm not opposed to his actions, but he is a Southern Democrat, so I assume he's maintaining racist policies. I find nothing about him opposing standard Southern Dem ideology.
