vcczar
Felix Frankfurter was considered one of the liberal judges on the court. He held a seat that was typically provided for a Jewish justice from Wilson until about Nixon. Four Jewish justices held the seat. Note: On another note, sad to say Al Franken only got 4 actions. He was the guy I was hoping would run for pres in 2016 as some of you may remember. His actions: Frankfurter, Felix 1920 Helps found American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Frankfurter, Felix 1933 Advises FDR on appointments, legal matters, and economic plans Frankfurter, Felix 1939 Confirmed to the SC; had been advising FDR on a pick, but FDR picked him Frankfurter, Felix 1940 Writes majority opinion stating public schools can compel students to recite the pledge of allegiance (Minersville SD v. Gobitis) Frankfurter, Felix 1948 Hires the first black man to be a SC law clerk (William Thaddeus Coleman Jr) Frankfurter, Felix 1955 States that Brown v Board of Ed calls for the swift desegregation of schools Frankfurter, Felix 1960 Rejects Ruth Bader Ginsburg as a law clerk because she's a woman Frankfurter, Felix 1962 Resigns from SC b/c of stroke
