vcczar
VP Al Gore (TN-D) was once a moderate (opposing gay rights and abortion) but then he veered center-left as VP, and then further left post-VP. Gore was considered an Atari Democrat for his focus on computers when they were considered just a "nerd" thing. While Gore was the first "powerful" VP, he was probably the VP most frequently seen with his president. Who today could imagine a Democratic ticket with an AR and TN politician together and so recently? I'm ashamed to say that I really didn't like Gore when he was VP or 2000 Dem nom. I thought he was too wooden, and took that to mean he wasn't trustworthy. I was also in undergrad, so I was naive on politics and current events. I knew more about early American history than current events. In 2000 I voted for Bush because he seemed way more likable (terrible primary reason for voting for a politician) and that he was from TX, where I was born, raised, and was living in duing the election. I now regret my vote. My opinion of Gore didn't really change until he started speaking out about the environment, climate change, etc., all things he spoke less frequently about as VP. His actions: Gore, Al 1979 1st member of Congress to appear on C-SPAN Gore, Al 1984 States he will not take campaign donations from gay rights groups Gore, Al 1986 Introduces Supercomputer Network Study Act Gore, Al 1988 candidate for Dem pres nom at age 40 Gore, Al 1991 Crafts the High Performance Computing Act Gore, Al 1991 Votes for War in Iraq Gore, Al 1992 VP on Clinton's ticket Gore, Al 1993 Acts as a chief advisor for Clinton while as VP Gore, Al 1993 Breaks tie in Senate on Omnibus Budget Act Gore, Al 1996 Involved in Chinagate campaign finance controversy Gore, Al 1996 Reelected VP on Clinton's ticket Gore, Al 1999 Claims to have created the internet while in Congress; later says he misspoke but critics used this against him Gore, Al 2000 Keeps Pres Clinton at arms length during campaign to appear as his own man, now considered a poor strategy Gore, Al 2000 Dem pres nom in contested election; winning the popular vote but losing the EC against Bush Gore, Al 2000 Loses Bush v. Gore court case Gore, Al 2003 Becomes a lead critic of Bush's war in Iraq Gore, Al 2004 Declines to run for pres, even refusing strong efforts to draft him to run; backs Howard Dean Gore, Al 2006 Focus of award-winning documentary about climate change (An Inconvenient Truth) Gore, Al 2008 Comes out in favor of gay marriage despite previous opposition Gore, Al 2008 Despite polling a strong 3rd, declines to run for pres or to influence Dem primary by making endorsement Gore, Al 2008 Considered for VP Gore, Al 2016 Declines to run for pres despite some pressure to do so
OrangeP47
Sometimes, when you're right, you're kind of smug about it. I can relate.

Bushwa777
The one main issue I have with him is that he speaks about climate change and helping the environment and then like all the other climate change people goes off on his own private plane and has a driveway with tons of lightbulbs! Way to go be a hypocrite Mr. Gore

Perhaps we all do with something, though. I'm not public with my obsession with playing obscure political sims. Or roleplaying as real-life figures over the internet... 😛

Way to go be a hypocrite Mr. Gore Yeah, I can agree with you on that being hypocrisy. He also does some things that are pretty hardcore towards his beliefs though. For instance, he's vegan because of the pollution caused by the meat industry. That's an insane sacrifice that I don't think I could ever make. I think the only thing that would make me even a vegetarian is if I had to kill my own food. That's something I could never do. I've rejected all invites to go hunting. I won't even go fishing for the same reason. Yet, I eat fish and meat. I don't oppose other people hunting or fishing. I just can't do it. I'd be easy to convert to vegetarianism if forced to find my own food.

Ensuring everything is used for something and all. But my side of the family is not big on hunting. Not really something I am interested in. I'd much rather go hiking. Fishing is quite calming though, and I've done it multiple times. Much of the time I just catch them and release them back. Fresh-caught fish is quite good, and rewarding if you really love seafood I'll say. Edited October 31 by Pringles
