His removal of Glass-Steagall is sometimes considered a leading cause of the Great Recession. During the Great Recession he was often a "top 10" figure on who to blame for the economic crisis. The constant blame probably led to his words in event 2008 and his resignation. He stated that the economic crisis only existed in people's heads and that we're just a nation of "whiners." He then refused to retract his statement after he resigned. Gramm also had a bit part in Gods and General as a Confederate general.
