James Guthrie (KY-D) is arguably the most influential KY politician immediately following the death of Henry Clay. Some argue he was the most effective Sec of Treasury since Hamilton, but this would mean overlooking Gallatin, who is often considered one of the top 5 Sec's of Treasury.

His actions:

Guthrie, James 1853 Confirmed Sec of Treasury for Pierce
Guthrie, James 1860 Dem candidate for pres
Guthrie, James 1861 Slaveholding Pro-Union KY pol at Peace Conference

Guthrie, James 1861 Fails in attempt to convince Lincoln to accept Crittenden Compromise
Guthrie, James 1861 Declines Lincoln offer of Sec of War
Guthrie, James 1864 Initial frontrunner to be VP on Dem ticket, but loses out to Pendleton in the end
Guthrie, James 1865 Strong supporter of Johnson against Reconstruction GOPers
