Myron T Herrick (OH-R) was considered by some to be a potential front-runner in the 1920 pres election, but he declined to take part in it. Much of the rationale was the he had been Amb to France, and they thought he'd be an excellent post-World War president, especially one dealing with all the League of Nation's drama. Nevertheless, he was sent to be Amb to France again when Pres. Harding, who had served as Herrick's Lt. Gov. of OH about 15 years earlier, was making his appointments.

His actions:

Herrick, Myron T 1906 Defeated for reelection as Gov of OH arguably because he refused to support prohibition
Herrick, Myron T 1912 Appt Amb to France by Taft
Herrick, Myron T 1920 Considered strong candidate for pres, but declines to be put up for nomination despite pressure
Herrick, Myron T 1921 Appt Amb to France by Harding
Herrick, Myron T 1925 Kept on as Amb to France when Coolidge takes on a full term as president
