AMPU State Bias REDUX | Flourish

I've basically synthesized all of the Census sheet state biases into a more visual format. Helps to know what we're looking at going into different years.

Fantastic work!

I love looking at things like this in map form. What did you use to get the US maps? I'd like to make something like this that goes through every general and midterm election to show party support by state. To be solidly one color, a state would have to have:

  • State Supported Party A for Pres (Worth 2 pts, one for the VP and to make total pts 10 for all of the above)
  • State has two Senators of Party A (Worth 2 pts)
  • State has all US Reps of Party A (Worth up 5 pts, depending if all party A, mostly party A, split, mostly party B, all party B)
  • State supports party A for Gov (worth 1 pt)

This would be a total of 10 pts for a state to be Solid Blue. It could be done on a 10 pt scale.

10 = Solid Blue

9 = Slightly lighter Blue

8 = slightly ligher Blue

7 = slightly ligher blue

6 = lightest blue

5 = purple

4 = lightest red

3 = slightly darker red

2 = slightly darker red

1 = slightly dark red

0 = Solid Red

If I do this, I'd start it with 1960, the first election with all 50 states.

Amazing! It's just so strange to see the progression. The 21st century certain inaugurates a new battlefield. I tended to think 1996 party support map looked more like the 2000 party support map, but you can see that the Gingrich Rev took a couple of elections to settle in.

2022 Map looks great for Dems. @Arkansas Progressive

I really appreciate you doing this. I might add it to my blog and give you credit for it. If that's okay with you. I haven't posted on my blog in so long, it might be nice to post something. I'll then link it to other people.

Excellent work! I have some other map ideas, if you're interested, but I won't have time to give you the information for that for a few weeks, most likely.

Yea. LBJ's landslide completely shattered Rs for 66 and Nixon's landslide in 72 didn't really matter when states budged to D+1 but kept Congress Democratic

Yea. Publish it, I like doing these kinds of things. Any time you want me to map data, just give me a headsup

@Arkansas Progressive do you know of a way to present the maps not as a link, as is done above, but as an interactive on an actual page? No worries if not.

ye I got that covered as well.

<div class="flourish-embed flourish-map" data-src="visualisation/16111947"><script src="https://public.flourish.studio/resources/embed.js"></script></div>

Here's an embed. Let me know if you need it in AMP or iframe format.

What I'll do is just put it into my blog and see if it works. I'm hoping to type something up today. PM me the name you want me to use for you when giving you credit.

You can just use my name associated with the flourish account, which is linked to my Gmail. Perfectly fine with that.

For some reason that coding isn't working on my wordpress blog. This is preview mode. It isn't published yet. :

Taking a quick google, the embed block is needed for the script from Flourish

I select block, then there is an option for code. It then prompts me to insert code or type code, and then I just copy+paste in the code as you see there.

I have Embed but not EmbedPress. It costs $40 for me to get it, unless I'm on the business plan.

ah

then with regular embed I'll send you the other code:
