Elizabeth Holtzman (NY-D) was one of the most prominent women in Congress in the 1970. She defeated, long-time incumbent Emmanuel Celler, which is a shocker considering Celler had been in Congress since 1922 and arguably has introduced more landmark legislation in the history of the US Congress than anyone else. She left the US Congress to run for the US Senate in, I think, 1982. She lost and never held office again.

Her actions:

Holtzman, Elizabeth 1973 a new woman member defeats Rep. Celler, long-time influential incumbent, in primary
Holtzman, Elizabeth 1973 One of the first to call for Nixon's impeachment
Holtzman, Elizabeth 1973 Opposes Ford VP confirmation, believing Ford would pardon Nixon (turns out to be true)
Holtzman, Elizabeth 1973 Votes against War Powers Resolution
Holtzman, Elizabeth 1975 Uses influence to help pass Indochina Migration Act
Holtzman, Elizabeth 1980 co-authors Refugee Act w/ Ted Kennedy
Holtzman, Elizabeth 1980 Receives some votes for VP at Dem Conv
Holtzman, Elizabeth 2006 Writes article advocating impeachment of Bush
Holtzman, Elizabeth 2022 loses in Dem primary in US Rep comeback attempt 40 years after leaving office

She lost to Jacob Javits (Lab) and Al D'Amato (Rep, with Con end) in 1980, which lead to his defeat by Schumer in 1998.
