George Huddleston (AL-D) is a Southern Dem who appears to have been more moderate on race than most Southern Dems. However, he did support just enough racist policies to win votes. By 1940, he was an Independent Democrat.

His actions:

Huddleston, George 1922 Votes against anti-lynching bill despite opposing KKK and race-baiting tactics in his state
Huddleston, George 1935 strikes "death sentence" from pub utils bill
Huddleston, George 1940 Dem backs Wilkie over FDR
Huddleston, George 1944 Dem backs Dewey over FDR
Huddleston, George 1948 Backs Thurmond over Truman and Dewey
