Patrick Hurley (NM-R) was born in "Indian Territory," although I don't think he was Native American. His 1932 action was connected to his role as Sec of War. Not captured below are at least 3 failed bids for elected office in NM. He had a pretty crucial role as Amb to China as it was split between Nationalists and Communists, but he helped keep up the United Front in China to combat Japan. While considered conservative, he didn't seem to have been harsh on Chinese Communism, maybe because Europen-descent people weren't being impacted by it or something.

His actions:

Hurley, Patrick 1929 Confirmed Sec of War for Hoover, promoted from asst after Good's death
Hurley, Patrick 1932 Role in breaking up Bonus Army
Hurley, Patrick 1941 Made Brig Gen in non-combative role in the military
Hurley, Patrick 1942 GOPer appt Amb to New Zealand by FDR
Hurley, Patrick 1944 GOPer appt Amb to China by FDR
