vcczar Posted March 27 Share Posted March 27 Scott Lucas (IL-D) is one of the more unfortunately Sen Maj ldrs in history. He held the office for only 2 years because he lost his US Sen seat. His opponent Dirksen would eventually be the GOP leader in the Senate, strangely enough. Lucas was a somewhat moderate Democrat and a potential alternate to Truman as VP in 1944. His actions: Lucas, Scott 1937 Opposes FDR court packing scheme Lucas, Scott 1938 aids in Agricultural Adjustment Act Lucas, Scott 1938 Role in Fair Labors Standard Act Lucas, Scott 1944 VP cand at Dem Conv Lucas, Scott 1949 Sen Maj Ldr Lucas, Scott 1950 defends Truman's Korea policy Lucas, Scott 1951 Sen Maj Ldr loses his senate seat in upset against GOP challenger Dirksen.
