Ernest Lundeen of MN is one of the strangest politicians ideologically. He served in the US House as a Republican, and then after a 15 year absence, returned as a Farmer-Labor member, before they more or less merged with Democrats. At first, he was an open Communist sympathizer, speaking to crowds of Communists and Soviet supporters. His isolationism, for whatever reason, caused Communists to dislike him, so he veered right to the Nazi's. The top Nazi agent in the US became his friend and the Nazi routinely used his DC office and staff to help distribute pro-Nazi propaganda. He died in a plane crash as he was being investigated, and who knows how things would have gone had he lived as the US was involved in WWII.

His actions:

Lundeen, Ernest 1917 GOPer opposes war vs Germany
Lundeen, Ernest 1933 Former GOPer returns to US house after 15 years, this time as Farmer-Labor Party member (Dem aligned)
Lundeen, Ernest 1935 plan for costly unemployment benefits from proposal originally made by Communist Party
Lundeen, Ernest 1936 Gives speech in support of friendly relations with the USSR; open Communist sympathizer
Lundeen, Ernest 1939? Isolationist stance causes break with Communists; becomes friends with Nazi agent in US, who uses his senate office on occasion to print and distribute pro-Nazi propaganda
Lundeen, Ernest 1940 opposes peacetime draft
Lundeen, Ernest 1940 US Sen killed in plane crash amid investigation for his alled ties to Nazi Germany

Man, surprised I've never heard of this bozo. Sounds like a perfect fit for the America First committee or German-American Bund.
