What board games do you like to play?

Jokes aside, what board games do you like to play. I used to play chess a lot, but I don't now. I used to play several other board games like Life and a game similar to snake and ladders.

Monopoly, Risk, Axis & Allies, Trivial Pursuit (the original and Star Wars editions)

I liked Monopoly and Risk when I was a kid. I won something like 17 or 18 games of Trivial Pursuit in a row (multiple version). My streak was broken because we ended up playing a version that was just different categories of current pop culture of the time. That's my kryptonite. I got last place, I think.

I played Axis & Allies one time and won. That was a lot of fun. I was Japan. Allies were too busy trying to beat Germany, who was locked up defending their country basically the whole game, so it was up to me. I invaded Eastern Russia. They put up no resistance because they were still trying to get Germany. I gobbled them up quickly. Once Russia was out, I was cranking out tanks to send to help defend Germany and expanding into Africa. The Allies quit on me once I had all of Africa. US and UK were both working exclusively in Europe, so the world was basically undefended. Had the game continued, Germany was then in a place to try and move forward, and we were going to invade the UK.

Favorite Board Games:

  • Founding Fathers game series by Rick Heli
  • Star Wars and Star Trek customizable card game I used to have
  • Sherlock Holmes mystery game (forgot the official name) but it's a fun game. I think it might have the word Casebook in it.
  • Twilight Struggle
  • Ticket to Ride

There are others but haven't much time to think about all of them. I play way more PC games than board games.

Entertainment is always my weak category. I am very solid on history and geography and pretty good at sports/leisure (with the random alcohol questions being my weak point).

The Axis powers definitely have the advantage in the traditional setup game. If Russia falls before the Allies seriously threaten the Germans or Japanese, the game is over.

My only weakness is Entertainment unless it's about non-recent pop-culture entertainment. I'll get a lot of the questions about old movies correct. My next weakest category is Science & Nature, but I'm pretty good at it. Sports & Leisure is easy so long as it is about Football, Basketball, and Baseball. History, Arts & Literature, Geography are the easiest for me. If I lose its because I keep getting the Entertainment questions wrong. I could also say I win because a lot of people are terrible at the categories I'm good at.
