British Energy Act (1!): It's been a tough few months for the Labour Party on legislative matters. The bill is proposed and simply sees disaster. Upon the bill being proposed the Speaker has to continuously shout "ORDER!" for more than 10 minutes as the Government benches ridicule the proposal. Even on the Labour Left some are demanding a bill that re-opens ALL British mines.

Northern Irish Education and Policing Act (4): The bill could have certainly been more popular, but it doesn't cause a disaster and many in Ireland and around the UK like the idea. Some believing the UK needs to step in and solve these matters, but devolving them and giving Northern Ireland the policing funds, and necessary support for combatting terrorism is sure to be a bi-partisan policy.

The Coal Industry Act of 1991 (2): It seems that the people of the UK dislike both Labour and Conservatives bills. While the Coal Industry Act avoids complete disaster, it is likely to face opposition as a good chunk of the most moderate One Nation Conservatives feel the bill goes too far. Even Thatcher's old foe, Ted Heath makes a point of order saying the bill goes too far. It'll likely be his faction that opposes it. But with the Conservatives continuing to have such a large majority, it appears likely that'll be down to a slim party line vote with a few stragglers.

British Energy Act: Nay! The Tories will mercilessly mock Labour for proposing that more government is the solution. The government ridicules it tirelessly.

Norther Irish Education and Policing Act: Nay. The Tories line is to oppose all matters of devolution, mainly because of the policing portion. The government will make a point to say that now is exactly the opposite time that we should be taking away the power of the government to police at the height of the terrorism from the IRA.

Coal Industry Act: Aye! Thatcher will, in a particularly enthuastic address to her Cabinet, proclaim that "the people may not like the medicine but they shall love the eradication of the illness!" Her point is that the government's economic policies should not be diverted from as they are this close to ending the recession and the Coal Industry Act could be exactly what we need next.

New Legislative Item: The Tories will finish their run on the recession with a round of tax cuts for businesses and the working and middle classes, aimed at increasing investment and output. The Corporation Tax is to be reduced from 35% to 25% the personal income tax for the Middle and Working Classes shall be dropped from 25% to 15%. There shall also be a minor cut on those making more than 21,000 pounds a year, dropping that rate from 40% to 35%. This tax-cutting policy shall be known as the Jumpstart Act. It shall be introduced by Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Norman Lamont.

By-Elections: The Tories do not expect to win Neath but will put up local Party activist and politician Richard Evans who will campaign on the Victory in the Gulf and the economic turn-around currently be conducted in Britain. He will also focus on the divisive politics of Plaid and the weak leadership of Labour, noting that Irish radical terrorists can attack Downing Street, so can radicals here in Wales.

The Tories will put up local councillor Nigel Evans who will campaign firmly on the 4 themes that the Prime Minister has hit nationally, our stand against recession, communism, authoritarianism, and terrorism. We believe that the strength exuded by the Prime Minsiter's win in the Gulf as well as her strong stand on both terrorism and the recession will be more than enough to keep Ribble Valley in true blue hands.

Prime Minister Event 1: The Prime Minister will survey the damage done to Downing Street, looking through the wreckage and broken windows in the Cabinet room. She will recall a shard of glass flying past her face to a reporter on the scene. She will stand together with her Cabinet in the destroyed room as a sign of a solidarity and strength against terrorism. The Cabinet will have to meet in other offices while Downing Street is reconstructed. After this she will address the from the scene.

Prime Minister Event 2: The Prime Minister will announce new policies to combat terrorism in Britain. The office of the Lord High Chancellor, who simultaneously acts as Minister of Justice, shall announce to all local prosecutors a new government policy called the "Zero Terror Tolerance" Order. National intelligence police will begin making locating terrorists and those suspected of being associates of the IRA and other local terrorist organizations their top priority. Meanwhile, local police and prosecutors are to work with federal liasons on terrorism issues to ensure a chain of enforcement and command. Finally, all prosecutors are to seek maximum sentences for convicted terrorists, conspirators, or associated thugs until further notice.

Party Event: Following the announcement of the Zero Terror Tolerance Order and the Thatcher's tour of the damage on Downing Street, the Prime Minister will hold a press conference outside the Cabinet room, standing in front of the shattered windows, she will stir the resolve of the nation and focus on how she intends on keeping Britain safe from terrorists.

"Earlier today, there was a vicious and brutal attack on Downing Street. I have heard some in the media and those who sympathize with the cause of the IRA call it political violence, political destruction, political attempted murder. Let us be clear.  There is no such thing as political violence, political murder. There is only criminal violence and criminal murder. We will use every tool at our disposal to hunt down and bring those who have launched this hideous attack on our most sacred institutions and on justice itself. Let us call them for what they are, nothing more than savage terrorists. And they are no match for Britain!"

"My Cabinet and I were lucky today. The thug who launched his explosive at the Cabinet building where we were holding session missed us and my Cabinet and I walked away without injury. The same cannot be said for those whose lives have been claimed by terrorist organizations like the IRA in the past. Great patriots like Lord Mountbatten stand among those who these thugs have taken from us. It is in times like these that national unity is so critical. This was not an assault in favor of some greater ideal like freedom or unity. This was an assault on our dearest principles of democratic government and the rule of law. It is because these terrorists so desperately hate the rule of law and desire to destroy it both in Northern Ireland and right here in London that this is exactly how we must respond. We cannot threaten the violent with more violence. We cannot threaten the terrorists with terror. No, instead we use the values which they so despise against them."

"Following this brutal attack, I issued to the Lord High Chancellor the Zero Terror Tolerance Order. The Lord Chancellor then transmitted this order to all Crown ministers of Justice across the United Kingdom. The purpose of this order is to steel the resolve of the British legal system and form an iron wall against terror. Indeed, just as this government has defeated thugs like Saddam Hussein internationally, we are committed to defeating thugs like the IRA domestically. Just as we have declared a war on Communism and Authoritarianism, we now declare a war on Terrorism. And to all those members of the IRA, perhaps even to the animal who perpetrated today's attack, I have just one thing to say: You will lose. No matter how right you think you are and what instruments of destruction, hatred, and fear you deem to your advantage- you will lose. For we have something you will never possess: the British people. The proudest, strongest people on this planet stand against you. You have declared war on the wrong people, the wrong government, and the wrong nation. You will come to regret it. You are no match for Britain, you are no match for us."

"Thank you all."

The Prime Minister then took questions about the specifics of the bombing and the governments response plan. After a few, she let the Lord Chancellor and Downing Street Architect take over their specific fields of questions as she returned to get back to work on fixing the recession and combatting terrorism.

British Energy Act: Nay, this is an unneeded and dangerous act given our current situation. The Labour Party must not be allowed to continue with these foolish proposals.

Northern Irish Education and Policing Act: Nay as well. Devolution in any case is something we will not support.

The Coal Industry Act of 1991: This bill will be met with division, as is to be expected. However, key moves from leaders like Heseltine in favor of the bill, claiming that it is a needed measure in the face of current economic uncertainty, will hopefully help unite many One-Nation Tories in favor of the bill.

Prime Minister Events

Damage Survey (3): While the country profoundly sympathizes with the Prime Minister, many British citizens are scared, and want action. The fact that Downing Street nearly got blown to rubble is a shock to many, and it's lawlessness happening on Thatcher's watch.

Terrorism Policies (5): The policies are decently received, and citizens are glad to see action. They just don't know if it'll be enough.

(Party Event for Conservatives) Thatcher Press Conference (10!): This Press Conference is a complete 180 and turns out to be a hit! Thatcher is seen as strong here, standing in front of the damaged Downing Street and hammering the IRA and their sympathizers is the kind of law and order mood the people want to hear. "The Iron Lady Strikes Back!" Reads a Sun headline.

Parliamentary Motions

Irish Devolution Bill (9): The bill is a hit amongst Northern Ireland and while it's sure to face opposition in Parliament... the bill received notoriety among back benchers of all parties when the bill allows Parliament to set up the date, and initiates a power sharing agreement between all Northern Ireland parties.

Trident Act of 1991 (4): While it is popular among Scotland, it's simply a bit of a bland bill to the rest of Parliament. But it's still a decent piece of legislation. It'll likely be down to where the Tories fall on this one.

Jumpstart Act (2): Another piece of legislation from the Conservatives that's well received among the base but everyone else hates it. Ted Heath once again rises to make a point of order and criticizes the plan as "a complete fiscal irresponsibility." A few stragglers among the Conservatives is likely to occur when this is put to a vote.

Party Events

Green Party Event (1!): Sadly, all of the actors decline. As most of them are solid Labour, and always will be. Perhaps better luck next time. Things go south even more when Alan Rickman, a staunch Labour man ridicules the Green Party as a ploy to take votes from Labour in the next election.

SDLP Event (7): The pamphlets are well received and many in Northern Ireland are inspired by the messaging of the SDLP.

Lib Dem By-Election Campaigning (3): Despite having a strong showing in the previous by elections the Lib Dems come off as a little bland. Nevertheless, Michael Carr continues to have very good prospects of becoming the next MP for Ribble Valley.

SNP Event (1!): Salmond is off his game and the rally is packed with Pro-Independence hecklers who oddly begin shouting, "If the establishment won't give it to us! Then we'll take it from em' like the Irish!" "SCOTLAND FOREVER!"

Plaid Event (3): Plaid has a long way to go if they're going to hope for such a huge upset like this. While Plaid may slowly be gaining, Wales is still Labour country.

Rock Against Thatcherism Tour (8): Where Labour fails in legislation, they succeed in campaigning. The tour is quite a hit! Bragg especially hits the tone when he slams Thatcher for trying to be the "Law and Order" Prime Minister, yet the lawlessness is happening on her watch!

BNP Event (8): The event goes well once again for the BNP. People line up to buy some of that BNP merch that has a buy one get one free deal!

John Tyndall will knock on doors in Hartlepool, hoping to get an idea of what the people care about. For research purposes of course.

Ordeeeer....question to the Prime Minister !

Mister Paddy Ashdown !

MPs from the Liberal ranks : Yeeeeaaaaah

image.thumb.jpeg.b8ba3e6061312746b44d4f22e1514f05.jpeg

Paddy Ashdown : Thank you Mister Speaker, first of all you will allow me to present my congratulations to our new colleague the member of parliament for Ribble Valley, Michael Carr !

Liberal and some opposition MPs : YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Paddy Ashdown : On a more serious note, I am satisfied of the last bill presented by the Conservative government. We have fundamental different views in terms of society, devolution and we don't share the same view for economic recovery, but credit is due when efforts are done.

I am gratefull that, finally, a tax reform is proposed to cut taxs on the middle and the working class and the Liberal Democrats MPs will support the government's bill despite the anti-poors inside her majority who want to take the bill down.

It is our common duty to make sure that the middle and the working class get a releaf.

If this was all this session would looks like the more peacefull session ever, however our disagreements remain considering others bills.

We know that the Irish Devolution Bill will not pass the vote, whatever the british people thinks of it, because Conservatives will vote against, and their only rebellion is when the Prime Minister wants to cut taxs on the most vulnerable, what a caricature of themselves they have become.

However, like others excellent bills which have been submitted, like our Gender Equality Bill, like the Northern Irish Education and Policing Act, like the Scotland devolution bill, we will support the bill. However, the only way for the Irish Devolution to  pass is to question who we elected to seat in this parliament.

The solution is what we saw last night in Ribble Valley ! What will continue over these next months. Last by-election was a signal, nothing is due, we almost won a Labour stronghold and won in a Conservative constituency, people have understood that in order to top the current two party system, there is the Liberal Democrat answer.

As for the Trident Act of 1991 I will personnaly vote in favor and let my MPs vote according to their convictions, but we need that this parliament is a registration cabinet. Hopefully one opposition party won something, and it is the Liberal democrats with a tax reform, we will continue to do our parliamentary job untill that voters give us the power to make this parliament a real thing once again !

Election time

Liberal Democrats proudly introduce Nicol Stepheen in Kincardine and Deeside. Libdems expect to win the seat despite the huge amount of Scottish who want devolution and the refusal from Conservatives. The seat is a Conservative Liberal Democrat battleground and Libdems are confident they will get the seat if they hard campaign on devolution and their position versus the one of tories.

Liberal Democrats introcude Frances David as female libdem candidate for Monmouth : The seat could be a three horse races between the Conservatives, Labour and Libdems, the Libdems might enjoy to come on the top and take another Conservatives seat.

The party also introduces Paul Clark as libdem candidate in Liverpool Walton, the party is very interested because they know that it is a Labour-Libdem battleground where Conservatives and others parties are almost unexistant. Then the only way for non-labour voters is to pick the Liberal democrats as principal way. Winning the seat may looks like that what happened in Scotland may continue, even if the context is different.

It is in the same logic that Libdems introduce Valerie Megson in Hemsworth. The context is slightly different than the previous constituency, Liberal Democrats activist don't believe that they will win the seat despite that it will also be a Libdem-Labour battleground. Libdems want to win in Liverpool and just tie the race in Hemsworth for the effect on voters.

Liberal Democrats will mediate little attention to Laugbaurgh where they introduce Peter Allen. The Libdems are aware that it is a Conservative Labour battleground and that both parties have good chances to get the seat, what Liberal Democrats are seeking in laugbaurgh is to get a good showing and tie both parties.

Interests of Libdems by seats :

1st : Kincardine and Deeside is a must win, keys are in hands with the Conservative position on devolution

2nd : Monmouth is a big target to see if Libdems can win a three horses races

3rd : Liverpool Walton risks to be a two candidates' race between Libdem and Labour, however it is a big safe labour seat. Libdems are seeking to create an upset because if they would win the seat, it would put question on the strenght of labour nationally. Indeed, if a safe seat would fall into Libdems hands, what about the battleground Conservatives-Libdem seats?

4th : Laugbaurgh, Libdems believe that it is close of the same situation than for Monmouth but less likely to happen so they will pay less efforts

5th : Hemsworth, Labour should win even if they put a chicken as candidate, what Libdems hope to see are swings rather than victory in the place

Party Action : Libdems release a public report to blame the current national situation and parliamentary gridlock

So, the Prime Minister decides to slash corporation taxes, who have thought a Tory government would do that eh?

You can go around the country and find people who can't make a living, and what does the Prime Minister do, she lowers taxes on her rich mates!

Now, she's going to stand up and tell me how she lowering taxes across the board, but that doesn't make it better!

She's going to under fund the country!

No money to the NHS, no money to benefits! No money to anything!

And you know why there's no money? It's all in the Tories pockets!

And that's what they want! They want us living with nothing while they live in their towers lookin' down at us.

They're happy to drive the country into the ground so long as they're alright!

They sit in their offices and look at lines on charts and clap, but they don't see  how everyone else is oh no. So long as the figures look nice for them!

Irish Devolution Bill

Trident Act of 1991

Jumpstart Act

Irish Devolution: Nay. The Tory line on devolution continues to be a No. It's the kind of division that such an act would inspire that allows for extremism to prosper.

Trident Act of 1991: Nay. The Prime Minister actually begins her speech by recognizing that there could be some common ground found here. However, the Soviet Union remains alive, even if it is dying. Such a move should not be considered until this government can be said to have well and truly vanquished European Communism. That being said, while we probably cannot move them out of Scotland for logistical and financial reasons, the government would be open to building a deep-water bay and missile-docking port in a less populated area in Northern Scotland that would make tactical sense. For now, however, it's a No.

Jumpstart Act: Aye! The Prime Minister will relish the opportunity to respond to a knucklehead like Dennis Skinner.

"I think the Honorable Gentleman has forgotten my upbringing Mr. Speaker. As the daughter of a grocer, I fought tooth and nail against the elites of both parties to get where I am. Indeed, I fought of my own merit. The Jumpstart Act would allow for millions of Brittons to do the exact same. The lion's share of the tax burden being removed here is in fact on the middle and working classes. The smaller business owners and their employees. The people like my Dad who simply wanted to do their business and be left alone"

"I apologize to the Honorable Gentleman that it doesn't conform to his view of Britain. That this government refuses to line the pockets of Whitehall. That we believe the people of Britain know how to better spend their money than the government does. These ideas must be foreign for our friends on the Opposition benches. But thankfully they are not foreign to this government nor to the people who elected us. No, they are how free nations prosper. And they are exactly how the people of Britain will lead us out of this recession into a new era of unparalelled growth because that is what happens when you allow the people to lead in their own economy!"

Legislative Item: The Prime Minister looks out the window of her temporary office. "It's time". During her meeting with cabinet she looks across the table and declares. "Gentlemen, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel of this recession. But we cannot get there if we don't commit fully to this government's policy of privatization." They know what that means. The government is going to roll out their final legislative priority of the year: The Energy and Rail Act of 1991. This act will privatize the two final major industries still under state control: British Energy and British Rail. The goal here is that with the two final major state-owned industry out of government hands, the recession will be brought to a screeching halt alongside all the other measures the government has put in place. (OOC: Postal Service, we're coming for you later)

Prime Minister Event 1: The Prime Minister will invite President Bush to London to discuss a possible Free Trade agreement. The hope is that such an agreement, which would knock out some of the final barriers to Anglo-American trade, will help bolster both economies during this time of economy uncertainty. Certainly, at least, apperances of negotiations should bolster the stock market and consumer confidence. Besides, it will be nice to have the President for the first time since the two nations won the Gulf War.

Prime Minister Event 2: The Prime Minister, still out for blood against terrorists and recognizing there being a desire for law and order from the British people, will roll out a second anti-terrorist measure, more anti-terror units to be stationed in Northern Ireland. However, she will also invite Irish Taioseach Charles Haughey, with whom she shares an unusual kinship for an Irish and British leader, to Chequers for an Anti-Terror Summit and appear together in solidarity against Terrorism with fighting happening from both the Irish and British side.

Party Event: The Prime Minister will give an address on the economic state of Britain. Her message will be one of hope and resolve. She has to walk a fine line here, she's peddling strength on terrorism and foreign policy while peddling a softer message of hope and resolve on economic issues. She will also take a few jabs at her political opponents, some of whom are peddling fear and division whilst others are actually agreeing with her.

"Good evening. As your Prime Minister, it is my greatest responsibility to ensure that Britain is both safe and free. It is no foreign concept to any of you that Britain has endured a tough year. A year which has taught us all a great deal of what it means to be a Britton. What it means to truly be safe and free and how important that it is we not take those virtues for granted. Earlier this week, the Confederation of British Industry declared that recovery was on the way. The Bank of England has confirmed that the worst of the economic downturn is over. Thanks to the policies of the government you elected, the worst of any possible recession was averted and Britain is will back on her way to the economic growth and prosperity which colored much of the 1980s."

"This is where you come in. Unlike in decades and governments past, we do not believe that the government alone can solve our issues. We do not believe that even the government primarily can solve our issues. No, it has always been the policy of this government to ensure that the strong, able, and industrious British people are given the tools they need to solve their own issues. We keep the Communists, Terrorists, and Dictators at bay here in Downing Street while you get to do what you love and provide for the family you love. That is because we trust you. We know that you know how to better spend your money than any unelected bureaucrat or even elected politician could. And that is why we are so proud to assure you that the worst is over. The light is here."

"Britain is an island built on hope and freedom. When Labour tells you to be afraid, I challenge you to be hopeful. When the Liberal Democrats tell you to support this government's economic programme, I encourage you to believe them. And when the SNP depicts me as a vampire, I encourage you to laugh. *Light chuckle and smile* No matter what our friends across the aisle in Parliament have to say, the Tories will always be ready to solve Britain's issues with new and imaginative ideas founded in the belief that you know best for you and that Britain must be a world power. This is Britain. There is nothing her people cannot do when they are allowed to do it for themselves. There is nothing that we cannot accomplish when the chains of government are removed and the dynamo of the free market is unleashed. We have passed the Deflation Act, the Coal Industry Act and we will soon be passing both the Jumpstart and Rail and Energy Acts. All of these are key pieces of legislation aimed to getting Britain back on track and letting you, the British people, alone to do business and provide for your families. Together, we will forge that New British Century. Thank you all and Goodnight"

By-elections: The Tories will recruit a slate of local politicians and party activists to contest all of the by-elections. They will run on a platform focusing on the success and problem-solving of the Thatcher government while throwing in some unique pitches as applicable for the constituencies.

7 hours ago, Pringles said:

Irish Devolution Bill: Have they gone mad? Devolution is a slippery slope leading to division, extremism, and strengthened calls for independence, all things that cannot be allowed. The United Kingdom must stand strong and united as we face our current economic difficulties, and dividing up our nation into subsections will not end well for our people or for the continued stability of our institutions.

Trident Act: This is another proposal which simply plays into dividing our Kingdom. The Soviet Union still exists, and playing a political game of moving around missiles all to send the message that the armaments of Britain are not welcome on Scottish soil is a disappointing sight to see from the SNP.

Jumpstart Act: This act will provide needed relief to our economy and the British people, major One Nation Tories like Heseltine will provide their full support.

BBC World News - September 21st, 1991 -> January 1992

General Headlines

  • Liberal Democrats win Monmouth By Election. Have strong showing in nearly all of them.
  • Kincardine and Deeside too close to call. Anne Begg leads by 2 votes.
  • Conservatives hold on to Langbaurgh.
  • Labour barely holds on to Liverpool Walton, and Hemsworth.
  • Dissolution of the Soviet Union: Ukrainians vote overwhelmingly for independence from the Soviet Union in a referendum.
  • Dissolution of the Soviet Union: Mikhail Gorbachev resigns as president of the Soviet Union, from which most republics have already seceded, anticipating the dissolving of the 69-year-old state.\
  • The Russian SFSR officially renames itself the Russian Federation.
  • Dissolution of the Soviet Union: The Supreme Soviet meets for the last time, formally dissolves the Soviet Union, and adjourns, ending the Cold War. All remaining Soviet institutions eventually cease operation on December 31.
  • The United States of America gears up for their own election season as the seemingly surgent President George Bush seeks re-election to a 2nd term.

Prime Minister Events

Bush State Visit (5): President Bush is unfortunately on a tight schedule and can't stay for too long in London. But he's certainly open to the idea and has some free trade agreements of his own he's been working on for quite some time. Perhaps another time.

Taioseach Charles Haughey Visit (7): The Taioseach Haughey is happy to visit his dear friend at Chequers! The summit goes well and both leaders receive a positive reception. Thatcher and Haughey both denounce the terrorism and extremism quite well and it contributes to their image.

Party Event for Tories: Prime Minister Address (3): The address does little to expand her appeal. Some enjoy her message her hope, but even more enjoy her image as the Iron Lady. And they wonder where that lady is tonight. However, it is only a minor setback.

-------

Parliamentary Votes

Irish Devolution Bill: Ayes: 264; No's: 351. The No's have it!

Trident Act of 1991: Ayes: 252; No's: 358. The No's have it!

Jumpstart Act: Ayes: 342; No's: 281. The Aye's have it!

Parliamentary Motions

Child Tax Credit Act (10!): The SDLP proposed bill is a hit! Hume gives a moving speech and the floor is in awe. This is sure to make up for the bland week of campaigning as the SDLP continues to flex their political muscles. Time will tell if they surge to the top in Northern Ireland.

The Energy and Rail Act of 1991 (6): While there are many fierce opponents to such a move. Especially on the opposition benches, the Conservatives see this as a necessary move to get the country moving and the trains running on time. It will definitely help the country move forward.

Parliamentary Action Items

None

-------

Party Events

Green Party Event (10!): The Greens do a complete turnaround after being shunned by staunch Labour actors. After the passing of socialist icon Eric Heffer, the Greens do a service not only to him, but themselves by going around and honoring the mans legacy.

BNP Event how (8): The BNP once again is a hit among the working class areas. Hartlepool is home to an old naval shipyard that has been in use since the Great War. Unfortunately, as time has progressed the jobs were not so plentiful as they once were in the early 20th century. And some of them are happy to blame it on the Jew loving establishment! (sorry). The BNP is really going after the working class. We shall see what this support produces in the 1992 election.

SDLP Event (3): Another bland streak of campaigning from the SDLP. But nothing terrible.

Labour Pamphlet Campaign (5): The pamphlets are seen as a little bland. The economy is slowly but surely recovering. It does resonate among the base though.

Liberal Democrat Event (7): Paddy Ashdown heads on BBC News to unveil his new book! A report on the current political issues of the United Kingdom's time. And they resonate quite well! The Liberal Democrats are establishing themselves as a champion of moderates across the country as they hammer the Conservative-biased gridlock. With an upset in Ribble Valley, we shall see what happens in the next by elections but they along with the 1992 election are surely going to be an interesting show of strength for the Liberal Democrats.

SNP Event (3): While it's a clever picture, the SNP messaging just doesn't get out there as strong as it has done. A minor setback for sure.

Plaid Event (5): The posters could surely do better but they appeal to the Plaid base and I suppose that's what matters.

By Election Results

Monmouth

Labour - Huw Edwards (5): 20%

Conservative - Roger Evans (3): 19%

Liberal Democrats - Frances David (43): 35%

Plaid Cymru - Sian Meredudd (57): 19%

Other - 7%

In an extremely stunning upset, Frances David has won the Monmouth By Election! Adding another upset for the Liberal Democrats in what was once considered a Tory seat, yet leaning Labour this time around. Time will tell if she is able to hold her seat, but she has won it, and the race has gained quite the media attention. Plaid Cymru has an impressive performance as they do slightly better the Conservatives and nearly as good as Labour!

---

Liverpool Walton

Labour - Peter Kilfoyle (55): 50%

Liberal Democrats - Paul Clark (1): 2%

Conservative - Berkeley Greenwood (99): 44%

Greens - Lesley Mahmood (12): 3%

Other - 1%

Peter Kilfoyle will go on to succeed the socialist icon Eric Heffer. However, the Paul Clark campaign completely crashed and bled support to an extremely energetic campaign ran by the Conservatives. In the end the seat was just too much of a Labour stronghold to flip, but by God, the bastard Greenwood nearly did it. The BBC points an even greater amount of attention on this race, as it could be a sign of British voters, even in working class areas taking notice at the economic recovery the country is experiencing.

---

Hemsworth

Labour - Jon Trickett (32): 46%

Liberal Democrats - Valerie Megson (79): 39%

Conservative - Garnett Harrison (11): 6%

Other - 1%

Jon Trickett wins in what was supposed to be an easy victory. But the surging Liberal Democrats nearly gave him a nailbiter in the race to the finish line. Another impressive near upset.

---

Kincardine and Deeside

Liberal Democrats - Nicol Stephen (50): 26%

Conservative - Marcus Humphrey (70): 29%

SNP - Christian Allard (33): 12%

Labour - Anne Begg (100!): 29%

Scottish Green - Stephen Campbell (53): 4%

Anne Begg was not expected to win this seat at all. Not even remotely. But a superb campaign has ended up in A... wait. This race is too close to call. Election officials say Begg's lead is by only 2 votes. With Humphrey right behind her. A recount is set to occur in the following days! (Final Result in 1992 Election Post)

---

Langbaurgh

Labour - Ashok Kumar (30): 21%

Conservative - Michael Bates (89): 36%

Liberal Democrats - Peter Allen (88): 29%

Green - Gerald Parr (88): 14%

Another close seat, Michael Bates has won the Langbuargh by election. Ashok Kumar began with an early lead but it slowly dwindled as the Liberal Democrats began eating up much of Ashok's support due to a poorly ran campaign. This is a hold for the Conservative Party.

Kincardine and Deeside Recount

Labour - Anne Begg : 29% (8):

Conservative - Marcus Humphrey : 29% (5):

Liberal Democrats - Nicol Stephen : 26% (5):

While the election doesn't move percentage wise at all, a few invalid ballots were counted and Begg's lead was expanded by 15 votes. Resulting in a certified 17 vote victory.

This is now a Labour-Pickup.

Liberal democrats release their final electoral manifesto

The title of the manifesto is : Bring back economic prosperity, make a Social revolution

The goal of the party has never changed since the beginning of Paddy Ashdown new kind of leadership, the party wants to be in opposition benches or at least gain a big amount of seats in the next election.

The party has then to define what are its key policies, Liberal Democrats have then adopted the following manifesto to adress the financial and social situation of Britain :

Economic plan :

We will not raise taxs on the middle and the working class

We will neither privatize nor nationalize anything which is not of economic necessity, britain has enough of those policies

The sole new tax which might be introduced will be on abusive speculations

We will work to keep a low inflation under 2% a year in order to really create money

Measures will be adopted to favorize youth entrepreneurships

The government will triple its current investments in Research and Development, either by public investment or fiscal deductions as well as via undirect subventions

If cuts would have to happen for the next government, none of them would concern Healthcare or Education under a Libdem government, our plan is rather to invest in those two sectors if we would benefit earlier than expected from the recovery

Libdems aim to reduce unemployment by half by the end of next parliament.

Education :

We will invest in education to reduce number of children by class

We will not allow tuitions fees to rise and will maintain these affordable

A plan to favorize professionnalization of apprentices will be implemented

We will adopt a national plan to fight against harassment in school environment

Environment :

The United Kingdom will ratify the next agreement which is planned at Kyoto in 3 years

We will invest in green renewable energy as part of the R and D

Social issues :

Women will benefit from the gender equality bill that they so much deserved and its provisions

A Libdem government will launch a real initiative to fight against racism, sexism, antisemitism and homophobia

A Libdem government will work with others parties in order to ensure a social dialogue to make social progress in terms of civil liberties in next parliament

Devolution :

Scotland will get its own parliaments with its competences as part of the United Kingdom

Wales will get its own parliament with its competences as part of the United Kingdom

A Libdem government will copy and paste the Irish devolution bill and make it pass the House

Crime :

Libdems will recruit more police officers

We will eradicate terrorism in Northern Ireland by working with local agencies and the leaving government

A particular boost will be made to support local police forces

A dual strategy will be implement for crimes, a Libdem government will support preventions' means as well as repressive ones

BBC 1992 Election Season Coverage - March 11th, 1992

Good evening fellow viewers. I'm David Dimbleby of the BBC and I will be guiding you throughout this entire tour of what is going to be known as the 1992 election. At noon today the Prime Minister requested that an election be called. This comes as the most recent bills from the Prime Minister such as the Energy and Rail Act of 1991 is sure to pass, while the popular Child Tax Credit Act seems likely to pass as well.

Since the 1990 Tory Leadership election the Prime Minister has had a thrilling year in what could be her final year, as Prime Minister.

While the Prime Minister's economic policies have been often very partisan pieces of legislation in terms of Parliament, we shall see what the voters think as the worst of the recession appears to be over and the economy has had quite a significant rebound going into 1992. Critics of the Prime Minister's policies often point to the national debt, but supporters emphasize the clear and apparent recovery that has occurred. As unemployment is falling, and the British consumer confidence has reached an all-time high. (75/100)

On the matter of domestic issues, the country experienced a shocking amount of attacks from the IRA over the course of last year. Even a mortar attack hitting Downing Street during a war cabinet meeting. However, the Prime Minister responded with action, and that kind of action has lead to more crackdowns on the IRA and increased funding for policing all across the United Kingdom. Despite the lawlessness occurring on the Prime Minister's watch, she's turning it around and it's bringing her image back as the one and only, Iron Lady. (69/100)

On foreign matters, the United Kingdom along with every other Western Nation is experiencing a similar feeling as the Soviet Union has officially dissolved entirely, along with the victory in the Persian Gulf War as Coalition Forces lead by President George Bush, and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher along with many other leaders among the UN have pushed Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait and defeated his armies. While there is still an air of uncertainty as to what happens going forward with the Cold War being over, things are expected to remain quite calm. (52/100)

Election Rules (IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!)

From here on out for the rest of this RP. These will be the following election rules.

  • Party Leaders (So @Dobs, and @WVProgressive get a total of 3 events for election campaigning.)
  • Party Factions, will get one event. This is a total of 5 events for the two major parties. For now this includes, @The Blood, @ConservativeElector2, @Cal , @Fbarbarossa.
  • Regional parties, are limited to campaigning only in the region they run candidates in. Obviously. So SNP, Plaid Cymru, and SDLP.
  • A list will be provided of regions you can campaign in. Basically the usual 12 you'd see in PMI. Although for purposes to calculate results with my tool, some of them may be different. A map will be included of the regions as well should you need it.
  • Every turn, each player may dedicate ONE event to campaigning in a SINGLE  constituency. Meaning 1/5 Major Party events can be spent in a single, specific, constituency. It's easy for me to track them. For smaller parties, 1/3 events can be spent in a single, specific, constituency.
  • General Elections will be exactly 10 turns. UK elections last relatively quick (Around 1 month usually) so I figure we should keep things relatively quick as well.

Conclusion

Now that you know the rules. I need 2 things from everyone. Your positions on the final two bills, and a manifesto of your party. This can be as simple as 5 bullet points, but it will effect your influence on certain groups. Here is a picture of what the influence groups are. These can influence turnout in certain areas, and boost your chances of potential upsets on election night!

@Kitten Since you're only in Northern Ireland, you don't have too do one if you don't want to. Since no one else is contesting you up there. But if you wish, go ahead. It won't hurt you!

For everyone else, I look forward to reading them! Dice will have some say in this, but I will also be looking for clever plays, political strategery, etc. You should know me well enough by now that I tend to be a decent judge at these things! (I think).

With that said, I look forward to reading them, and once those are in. Influence groups will be filled out. Once influence groups are filled, I will make a post officially beginning the campaign season. With Opinion Polling, Newspaper endorsement opportunities, and all of that jazz.

Have fun!

Something I forgot to mention. Types of events!

1. Rally/Speech - You know what this is. Rally, speech, campaigning, all of it. The most basic forming of gaining votes.

2. Influence - You can influence any one of the groups above in the picture I provided. Your scores will be shown on the first post. And then you won't know until election night. 😄

3. Endorsement - Newspapers still played a big role in UK politics. There will be a list of high profile newspapers you can attempt to get the endorsement from. 3 will already be endorsing a certain party if I remember correctly, simply because they always have endorsed these parties.

Child Tax Credit Act: Ayes from both Plaid and SNP

Energy and Rail Act of 1991: Free votes from both Plaid and SNP

Why the Scottish National Party is so important in this election | The Economist

THE SNP RELEASES MANIFESTO
March 14th, 1992

The SNP manifesto places a large amount of influence on a few things

 - Devolution for Scotland. The SNP does not believe a referendum is needed to secure support for devolution, as the three largest parties (Scottish Labour, the SNP and Scottish Lib Dems) all support Devolution. A Scottish Parliament founded upon an AMS system of proportional representation.

- Scottish Independence Referendum by 2000. The SNP believes at least an advisory referendum would help clear the air around independence.

- Removal of the Trident nuclear system from Scotland. The people of Scotland clearly do not support it remaining in the country, and the SNP will fight to make sure it is actually removed.

- Strongly against poll taxes or the so-called community charge. Scotland was unfairly harmed by a Westminster government intent on hurting Scots.

- Invest strongly in the Scottish lower and middle classes by way of a devolved parliament that can invest more into Scottish education, health care, and other vital topics.

- Money earned from Scottish oil should be directly benefitting Scottish workers and people by getting it put back into the community through better schools, businesses, and social programs.

- The SNP will never compromise to promote a Tory government that wants to harm Scots. The SNP stands for a strong independent Scotland in the European Community run by the voters of Scotland, not the Prime Minister of England.

Plaid Cymru - Party of Wales at Cotton Cart

PLAID RELEASES MANIFESTO

March 19th, 1992

The Plaid manifesto focuses on regional control of Wales and the economy of Wales.

- A devolution referendum held in Wales, of which parties are allowed to argue for or against. A devolved Welsh Senedd would have power over local affairs in Wales and would be voted on in a similar AMS style.

- Welsh control over Welsh affairs - whether it be right now through devolution, or a future independence referendum, Wales deserves to have its voice heard.

- A strong social safety net to help those in Wales who can't help themselves (as Wales has a high poverty rate)

- Labour has decided to become a party of England, and has forsaken its Welsh roots. Plaid Cymru is the only party of Wales.

- Plaid Cymru is profoundly concerned at the erosion of the welfare state under the Tories, and the effect of this on the elderly, the young, the unemployed, the disadvantaged and the disabled.

- The involvement of young people in the decision-making process of the new Wales is essential. The danger of ignoring a sector of society already disenchanted with conventional politics must be averted.

- The pressure for deep cuts in agricultural support, particularly from the UK government, presents a serious threat to our family farm structure and rural areas.

Paddy Ashdown obituary: transformative Liberal Democrat leader

Paddy Ashdown party conference :

What a major recovery our country is today.

The Jumpstar act is the major reform which changed things, by cutting taxs on millions of people as well as on enterprises.

Now we experience an economic recovery which has put back food on the table of the lowest and middle class, may I ask who voted for this legislation? Conservatives and Libdems.

May I ask a second question? Which party is the one who stood up in Commons and threatened to vote against any government bill untill that a tax reform be made? The Liberal Democrats.

So, when both major parties, and the major one in opposition bench were fighting over nationalizations and privatizations, one party has said enough, and pushed for a fiscal reform which stabilized this country's economic growth.

With 20 MPs, we got more for the british people than 230 Labour MPs. Imagine if we were a bit more than as of now !

If your imagination pleases you, transforms it into reality by voting for Libdems this year.

Even if the economic recovery is the success of a major agreement between Libdems and Tories, we remain a firm opposition to this government.

This government is the one which opposes devolution.

Which opposes more societal rights.

Which keeps an old view of the cold war in an era that has turned the page.

We are the real alternative, an alternative economically credible which stands up for democracy and for more rights, join us.

Liberal Democrats support the Child Tax Credit Act

Liberal Democrats adopt free vote on the Energy And Rail Act of 1991

1. Rally/Speech  : Libdems organize rallies in Southwest

. Influence : Target for Scottsmen

The Libdem member of parliament and proud Scottish Charles Kennedy replaces Paddy to start the campaign in Scotland while others campaign in Southwest.

Charles Kennedy's son Donald attends memorial service for former Lib Dem leader | Daily Mail Online

Charles Kennedy : As a Scottsman I feel insulted by the way our region is still denied its right for devolution.

We're supposed to be in an union, what is an union where consent disappears? I know that Conservatives dislike divorce but time evolved !

Audience laughs

At least before divorce we can still save the couple, and we libdems believe that we have the solution , it's a real devolution and consideration for Scotland.

In order to prevent a brutal divorce, or an unhealthy couple, this country needs to end the Conservative majority it has, and to replace it by a devolution majority !

Endorsement : Libdems seek to get the Times' endorsement to create a political revolution in the Center
