Paddy Ashdown morning breakfast

Paddy Ashdown dead: Former Liberal Democrat leader dies age 77 after short illness - Mémoires de Guerre

Not that bad, we got what we wanted.

The Times is a big target, now let us solidify the base.

First of all let us continue our compaign in the Southwest, there are too many seats that we can take.

Liberal Democrats make the show in Southwest

Liberal Democrats leader Paddy Ashdown with his wife Jane launch the campaign in Yeovil today (Saturday). See PA Story..Photo Barry Batchelor/PA Stock Photo - Alamy

In the meantime, a new Libdem politician who run for MP in Twickenham is trying to give an economic speech while campaigning in Greater London, Vince Cable

Vince Cable Facts for Kids

Vince Cable : it is important to realize that for too long, the british people was forced to choose between a good economy and an unfair society with the conservatives, or a fairer society but with a weak economy under Labour.

We, Libdems, break that equation. With Libdems you can have a fairer society, and a strong economy. Our tax plan is basically what has put back Britain on the recovery plan, but Londonians want more freedoms like in many cities of our country, this is precisely what Liberal Democrats want to give.

3 Influence : Liberal Democrats hope to get the endorsement of the Independent. The Independent is much closer of the Liberal Democrats than any other media, however they fear that the editorial remains neutral during the campaign. Getting the independent would finish to constitute the strong base that Libdems have been creating since 2 years.

Rally (10!): It's no surprise that after the dual endorsement of The Times, the Liberal Democrats have seen a large uptick in their support. They're well on their way to making things difficult for both political parties. And the South West is an extremely vulnerable area for Conservatives to lose to the Liberal Democrats.

Rally (2): Greater London is more of a Labour-Conservative battleground although it's slowly trending Labour quite heavily. The Lib Dems will have a tough time becoming super competitive here.

Endorsement - The Independent (97/100) how: In a SHOCKING turn of events The Independent has endorsed the first political party in a General Election in, well... forever. The Independent puts out a glowing article on how Liberal Democrats are the key to breaking the duopoly, and combine the best of both parties. They also express grave concern for a 4th term of Thatcher, pointing out her stances on civil liberties, and staunchly Conservative social views. However, they spare no criticism of Labour's economic platform. Nationalization, left wing economics, and no tax cuts... all are mentioned as criticisms of both parties.

Overall: +3. Liberal Democrats just gained the endorsement of The Independent. Expect a surge, much to the ire of the Labour and Conservative Party.

John Hume campaigns throughout Northern Ireland

The SDLP distribution of pamphlets throughout Northern Ireland begins

SDLP key leaders campaign in Belfast North

Rally (1!): The event seemingly goes well until the UVF shows up and attempts to throw a bomb at Hume. Luckily, the attempt fails when the IRA is also amongst the crowd and shoots the bomber. Hume is evacuated by local police but the news goes on about it all week. Generating some bad rep for the SDLP.

Rally (10!): The pamphlets do quite well. Promoting peace among Northern Ireland, even with the bombings of yesterday, the pamphlets do remarkably well and helps Hume recover from the terrible incident that occurred yesterday.

Rally (2): A bad campaign effort in Belfast North.

Overall: -3. The SDLP has a tough week with the bombing. But the good pamphlet campaign saves what could be a disastrous campaign.

Greens turn

1. Greens will blanket the Brighton Pavilion with leaflets.

2. Greens will seek to gain influence with the working class again.

3. Greens will seek the endorsement of Ringo Starr by himself

Rally (7): A good leaflet campaign! The Greens have a shot at winning Brighton if they put up an excellent ground game effort!

Rally (9): The Greens didn't do so hot with this last time, but they regain some of that lost support. Much to the ire of the Labour Party which is going to rely on the working class for a victory on April 9th.

Endorsement (1!): Ringo sadly declines and ridicules the Greens once again. He's a staunch Labour man who wants Thatcher out of office.

Overall: 0. The Greens have good campaigning in individual areas but with Ringo ridiculing the party once again... it's not good for the national look.

18 hours ago, Cenzonico said:

John Tyndall campaigns in Uxbridge. (bit lazy but whatever)

Rally - Uxbridge (9): Surprisingly, Tyndall is getting the angry working class white people out in the streets and they're mad. Time will tell if their extremely long shot of taking down this Conservative stronghold is successful.

9 hours ago, Hestia said:

Plaid Cymru campaigns across Wales, hoping to increase the percentage for Plaid Cymru in Wales by visiting with locals in the area.

Plaid invests in the heavy Labour seat of Rhondda, focusing on the Welsh language and how Plaid could help Wales at a national scale in this case.

Plaid attacks Labour in Wales by making a group of ads to attack them with.

Rally (9): Plaid is a hit!

Rally - Rhondda (7): Plaid is certainly making their voice heard. But Rhondda is a DEEP Labour seat and it'll be an extremely uphill battle.

Rally (3): Plaid once again, can't produce Ads it seems.

Overall: +4. Plaid picks up the pace as they slowly make their way to some hopeful gains.

9 hours ago, Hestia said:

The SNP launches an attack in Glasgow Govan, focusing upon Labour's hesitance to vote for Devolution and how the SNP would immediately make a Scottish Parliament a reality.

The Scottish National Party attacks Labour as right hand lieutenants of the Tories who would rather stand against Scotland than against Thatcher.

The SNP promotes their candidates with a meet and greet near Glasgow.

Rally (8): Ole Jim Sillars has a long way to go as Labour is also in town throwing whatever they can to eliminate the SNP. But the SNP does a damn good job and Sillars' has a chance at holding his seat in what's going to be a close race.

Rally (6): The SNP attacks land and give them a little extra momentum in Scotland.

Rally (5): The event is a little bland, but it's nothing terrible.

Overall: +4. The SNP has a good turn as they continue to make Scotland vulnerable.

9 hours ago, Dobs said:

Thatcher will deliver a nationally televised law and order speech, once again attempting to bring working class voters to the Tory cause. (Influence - Working Class)

She will then tour working class towns in Northwest England, championing her victories in the Gulf War, the Cold War, and the newly declared War on Terror. (Rally - Northwest England)

Unalayed by the Times kind refusal of support, the Tories will nevertheless seek out the endorsement of the Independent.

CE2: The Tories will run ads on the economic recovery across the East Midlands. (Rally - East Midlands)

Blood: Michael Heseltine will give a speech in London attacking Labour's left-wing economic policy and the inexperience of the Liberal Democrats, solid, stable, stead Tory leadership is the only real option for Moderates. (Influence - Moderates)

Influence (9): Thatcher hits the right spot! A national law and order speech, especially after the bombing attempt on John Hume is what the country wants to hear. They're tired of the the IRA and UVF. They want the terrorists gone!

Rally (1!): Unfortunately, Thatcher isn't too popular in the Norwest, like Tony Blair just a few days ago, she has an egg unfortunately hit her nice blue dress... not the best thing to see on BBC Tonight.

Endorsement (5/100): The Independent has already endorsed the Liberal Democrats, and they love them. Thatcher and the Tories get a brief, "piss off" from the Independent. They want the Tories out of government so badly. To make matters even worse, a new Op-Ed comes out from The Independent titled "Why you shouldn't vote for the same party a fourth time." A harsh criticism of Thatcher.

Rally (6): The ads do quite well.

Influence - Moderates (6): Moderate voters certainly like Michael Heseltine. While the Liberal Democrats are surging, Heseltine persuades a good bit to listen closer, and stick with the Tories this time around.

Overall: +1. The Conservatives could've certainly had a worse turn, but the refusal of The Independent to endorse the Conservatives, and the fact the paper even took a step further to denounce the Conservatives, is not good press at all.

Roy Hattersly talks  in Liverpool about the need for Britain to fight for Democracy abroad even in a post Cold War world.

Rally (6): Smith is well received in Scotland. Even if a little bland.

Rally (5): Benn doesn't do much to move the needle in the South West.

Rally (9): The ad is a hit! And hits back against the Plaid campaigning in wales.

Rally (9): Kinnock is once again a hit. The honest, nice guy humbleness of the man wins the day. he hits back against the SNP attempts to give Labour a run for their money in Scotland.

Rally (2): Hattersly slips a bit in Liverpool and accidentally comes off as a little too hawkish to the very leftist region.

Overall: +6. Labour could've had a lot go wrong this turn, but they've held their own and may just hold on to their slim lead as the Liberal Democrats surge.

BBC news : It is being reported that the third largest party has come from a long shot 2 years ago into making this race much narrower than it should have been according to analysts.

BBC news : The Liberal Democrats are making gains accross the country, to this day the Liberal Democrats remain in a very good position regarding if they can keep the current trend up to election results.

Paddy Ashdown has remained very calm those last times, he did not particulary commented the last "shocking" endorsements he received from the press, but it looks like that he will be soon on the campaign trail again.

Liberal Democratic HQ in London :

The Charles Kennedy Story - BBC News

Paddy Ashdown : I am proud of your comittment Charles, you did well in Scotland.

Charles Kennedy : You got us the Independent Jérémy ! That's even greater than what I have done.

Paddy Ahsdown : Now the question is, what should we do? Do we try to move forward with what we have done?

Charles Kennedy : Let Scottish on their own for a while, we did great so let us not harass them too much, according to me you should target others places of the country where we have not came yet.

Regions and Cities of England

Paddy Ashdown : Well, I will go to the South East by myself next week, in the Isle of White.

Charles Kennedy : Sorry, what?

Paddy Ashdown : The isle of Wight I meaned ! We have to go there and also on others constituencies of the South East such as Eastleigh, Dartford, there are many paces in the South East that I have to go.

I need to send someone in Yorkshire and the Humber, is anyone here able to go there?

Charles Kennedy : I think that Diana Wallis could do the job. We will present her in the EU

Final point, Libdems give a clear appeal to the Lower Class which constitutes millions of poors who are attracted by Labour as of now

Charles Kennedy goes on television to adress the lower class.

Charles Kennedy Biography – Facts, Childhood, Family Life, Achievements

BBC : We're glad to receive you Charles Kennedy.

Charles Kennedy : Pleasure is all mine.

BBC anchor : What is your message tonight?

Charles Kennedy : I want to say to those who live under poverty or in poverty tonight that they don't have only one option, they do not belong to the labour party.

The Labour party thinks he owes them via nationalizations and social programs, but what has Labour done for them so far?

Labour has mainly promised to nationalize sectors, but will it help this country to get back to the economic recovery? No.

Labour wants to ensure a minimum wage, we agree with them, but they don't have the economic credibility to put out of poverty millions of people who live in poverty, our party prooved in its last legislations that we know how to do that.

I was born in a  Scottish Highlands town of Inverness and grew up in a remote crofter's cottage in the Highlands. I know what facing social inequalities is, and by the way I have been member of the Labour party at 15 years old, but I understood that the sole way to really put poors out of poverty is by adressing them adapted and realistic solutions, not by the pursuit of a pure socialist idealism.

Endorsement (9): While Hitchens is a Labour man through and through, he goes around publishing some articles on the Green Party, and says people should give them a chance! His readers enjoy his in depth analysis on Left Wing Green policies.

Liberal Democrats, confident that they could now form a government or at least finish on opposition benches have then modified their campaign strategy and dare to go in places where their opinion polls are below

First event, Paddy Ashdown meets voters across the Southeast, trying to win voters the same way he won hearts in the west. Paddy Ashdown's strategy is to conquer the whole South where he is elected. The Libdem strategy is to tell them that now there is a moment where Libdems are escaping their third place and can take on the two party systems to deliver moderate policies which go well with the South as well as for rural areas.

Second event, in order to continue to gain traction, Libdems send their welsh member of parliament Alex Carlile in Wales, the goal of the Libdems is to show to the people of Wales that the culture and local dialects of the Welsh people will protected under a Liberal Democratic government.

Third event, Libdems reroll their attempt to get the Lower class by promoting their fiscal measures for Healthcare and Education and to compare that "the economic policies which differ between Libdems and Labour will not affect poverty, because nationalizations do not reduce poverty".
