vcczar
Inspired by the latest Economist article recommending that the US do so as a better alternative for paying for welfare.
Rezi
Only if other taxes were repealed or lowered (specifically thinking of state sales taxes here, but I'm open to others), since VAT is essentially a sales tax but less bad since it applies along the whole supply chain. I'd also prefer that the VAT be on more luxury items (thinking not food, or other necessary items), but it's not the end of the world. Pringles
Depends on exactly what the tax is on/what it applies to but I'm gonna go with generally no at the moment.

It about amounts to that. Okay. I’m wondering why the economist is advocating it if it seems to be a sales tax and nothing more.
DakotaHale
Considering the added tax is most likely going to be passed on to the consumer anyways, I'd say a VAT tax harms mostly poor people IMO, unless it's on luxury items specifically like @Rezi said in which case I might even be open to supporting that. 2
