If they think we are going to let it go, they are very wrong.

We are going to continue the effort and the strategy we are using, it is the right one, never too much to the left, never too much to the right, while some will give in the outbidding like Bertrand and his patriotism wanting to be both liberal and nationalist - hogwash!

Bruno le Maire : Que penses-tu du plan sur Google Amazon et Facebook? Ce ne serait pas mal de repartir là dessus, non? /

What do you think of the plan on Google Amazon and Facebook? Wouldn't it be bad to go over that again, wouldn't it?

I am satisfied of the additional measures that Emmanuel Macron wants to introduce alongside the US to fight climate change.

Just now, Patine said:

OOC - On number one, it should be, "Faire de la France Grande Encore une fois," instead - especially in the text on that pictured cap, above. You'd think a far-right-wing nationalist party in France would lose credential - and polling and votes - for having their slogan in English, especially in physical text on election paraphernalia. Just a note, there.

(The correct translation would be : FAIRE LA FRANCE GRANDE A NOUVEAU but it sounds weird in French, that's the story with languages and their formulas 😛

A much better reformulation would be : REFAIRELA GRANDEUR DE LA FRANCE - which gives in english MAKE AGAIN THE GREATNESS OF FRANCE

For example YES WE CAN gives OUI ON PEUT in French and it has not the same sounding 😄)

France 2022 Candidate Round-Up

Marine Le Pen

Conservative firebrand Marine Le Pen continues her warpath towards the second round. She appears dead set on making it, especially with good weeks like this one. It all began with a "Make France Great Again Rally" (no French version 😛 ). While it surely ticked off 'the libs' it still got a good amount of press, and for Le Pen, it only endeared her to her conservative base. Marine's reclaiming of the right flank appears to be good for her numbers this time around. Especially with other right-wing candidates taking slight hits this week, Le Pen has seized the momentum for herself.

Rolls: 10,6,6

Polling: 23.1% (+0.4% from last turn)

Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron, the incumbent president, struggled when Al Gore came to Elysee. Most felt as though Americans shouldn't stick their noses into French politics. However, the bill presented and the tour later that week went even better, beginning to right the ship for President Macron at a critical time. There is hope yet that he can turn it around and maybe snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Rolls: 3,8,9

Polling: 19.6% (-0.3% from last turn)

Nicolas Sarkozy

Former President Sarkozy started out the week right with a good day in Alsace-Lorraine, but it began to tumble from there. A slightly rocky performance in Aquitaine looked different, with it looking as though Sarkozy was a bit tired to begin with. The attack ad on the National Front, and Le Pen in particular, fell flat upon its face. Many felt that it was a bit too harsh against Le Pen, who has been having a good couple weeks and is beginning to look more presidential by the day.

Rolls: 8,3,1

Polling: 15.2% (-0.1% from last week)

Yannick Jadot

Green party nominee, Yannick Jadot, has had a phenomenal couple of weeks, and has even eclipsed farther leftist, Jean Luc Melenchon. Jadot had a good visit in Lyon, which is becoming typical of his candidacy, and it is promptly followed upon a flat event later. The week was accented by a particularly eventful day in Paris, where many voters came out to hear Jadot, and it broadened the EELV's strength across the board, bringing them to nearly 14% in the capital region.

Rolls: 8,7,2

Polling: 9.4% (+0.5% from last week)

Jean Luc Melenchon

The man with the worst campaign cycle so far? None other than Melenchon himself. If he was in a better position to begin with, it's likely quite a few points would've been lost. The ad cycle launched this week was this edition of Melenchon's low point, and created a real hole to try and get out of, but it was accented by another poor event in Paris. The second one went better, but not enough to stop the nosedive trajectory the campaign is in.

Rolls: 1,2,5

Polling: 8.7% (-0.5% from last week)

Benoit Hamon

Last in the trio of leftists comes Benoit Hamon. However, it isn't for lack of trying. Besides Jadot and perhaps Le Pen, the best campaigner has been Hamon. The ad campaign released this week by the Socialist campaign was spectacular and very well polished, leading to a grow in support in the polls. Together, the two more moderate leftists now control nearly 17% of the vote - more than Sarkozy and growing closer to Macron. Unfortunately, unless one of them drops to support the other eventually, it's possible it won't mean much.

Rolls: 5,8,6

Polling: 7.2% (+0.6% from last week)

Xavier Bertrand

Xavier Bertrand is a curious figure. He came off with a bang, then went down in the polls last week. This week, he stabilized with relatively neutral events all around. He controls a little under 7% of the electorate, a critical center-right group that could aid either Sarkozy or Macron, or help Bertrand push past a few of the left-leaners himself. At this point, he isn't doing much damage to anyone in the race besides maybe Sarkozy if he comes closer. Bertrand continues his independent nature as he campaigns - less apt to change compared to the other parties.

Rolls: 5,5,4

Polling: 6.8% (-0.2% from last week)

Jean Marie Bigard

Bigard's flashy campaign tactics appear to be wearing off on the rest of the country, as they were not really taken that well by them. The comedian seems to be running out of tricks, and the campaign seems to be rocking on its heels, falling below 4% for the first time since the campaign was launched. Even wearing some yellow jackets by the Elysee didn't seem to make a lot of people think of what happened a few years back even.

Rolls: 5,5,5

Polling: 3.9% (-0.1% from last week)

Jean Christophe Napoleon

Napoleon has been on a bit of a whirlwind ride across the country, and is beginning to find one area preferential to him: Hauts de France. His tour and ad went relatively mild this week, but a great day in Calais turned things in the positive direction. After all, a monarchist last name minor candidate that started at 1% has little to go but up! 😄 Napoleon appears to be taking it in stride, though.

Jean-Christophe Napoleon would take the opportunity to appear on his first nationally televised interview this week. In his national debut, he describes himself as “neither part of the system nor an extremist”: he is a Bonapartist and emphasizes the importance of national sovereignty.

He claims that France has “lost its sovereignty” and that he will restore it to the French people: he will “bring back an independent foreign policy which serves the interests of this country alone.” His foreign-policy platform is based on the right to self-determination, which he believes has been flouted, notably by the European Union. However, he also believes that France should have global power and influence, and proposes to increase the promotion of French values around the world.

“In the age of globalization, the successful countries are the ones which strike a balance between openness to the world and intelligent protectionism.” (Event 1)

Napoleon will seek the endorsement of the only mainstream politician who may be willing to give him a shot: Nicolas Dupont-Aignan. This endorsement is a reach for the young Bonaparte, but the two's views align on many key issues and Slow Nic might be willing to lend his support if he believes that it will help grow the Gaulist movement at large. (Event 2)

Finallly, Napoleon will take a slow day in the area that has shown him the most love, Hauts de France. A slow stroll through the city meeting and greeting with voters should do quite nicely. (Event 3)

1: Xavier Bertrand gives a TV interview in a political discussion talkshow on France24: ''President Macron's recent criticism of my positions is just a desperate sign that he already sees himself put in the corner by his right-wing challengers. Monsieur Macron doesn't understand that there is a need to combine the best of two paths. His dogmatic left-wing approach has put our country further down, but what Madame Le Pen has to offer is nearly equally bad. If we want to be a strong leader in the EU and the world we need to look at ways besides being dogmatic left or right. I believe I am the candidate who can unite all those unsatisfied by both President Macron's presidency and our currenty party system.

2: Xavier Bertrand holds a rally in Strasbourg talking about his approach to the German-French relations in the wake of economical connection and cross-border workers. He promises to make their lifes easier not more difficult in his approach to Germany. Likewise he insists on re-thinking the relation, which he describes a receiver of dictates from Berlin under the current presidency.

3: Xavier Bertrand hits out on Twitter again.

French Election 2022 - Weekly Roundup

Marine Le Pen

The big news of the week was the endorsement of Ms. Le Pen by Jean-Marie Bigard. The endorsement (82/100) was extremely effective and helped at least half of his support go directly from him to Le Pen. The endorsement really dominated the week for Le Pen, but she had two good events in Paris and Normandy, but one that went off the rails as former President Trump began spouting his conspiracies again. Overall, a very good week for Le Pen.

Rolls: 7,1,9

Current Polling: 25.2% (+2.1% from last week)

Emmanuel Macron

The incumbent President continues to struggle a bit out on the campaign trail. The ad campaign that his party attempted to roll out landed with a thud as many voters pointed out how old the ad seemed to be from, and Elysee was mocked for how long it took them to come out with it after having all of the source material. The best part of the week was surely in Occitanie, where Macron began to make up some distance that he'd been losing to Le Pen there.

Rolls: 4,7,2

Current Polling: 19.5% (-.1% from last week)

Nicolas Sarkozy

Sarkozy continues his plodding strategy, no really stepping a toe out of the ordinary for the former President, but also continuing his ascent with making little clear missteps. The week's highlights came in the North of the country with two fair events in Normandy and Brittany, with a less exciting one in Paris rounding out the campaign's three events.

Rolls: 5,7,7

Current Polling: 15.4% (+.2% from last week)

Yannick Jadot

Jadot's best day of the week was definitely in Brittany, where many voters are beginning to see the Greens as a credible alternative to the main parties. Jadot is successfully beginning to pull away from the other leftists in the race, if only by less than a point so far. Jadot's biggest misstep was in Paris, where a voter threw a box of flour at him. The sudden turn in Paris is the biggest potential pitfall for the surging Green candidate.

Rolls: 2,10,5

Current Polling: 9.8% (+.4% from last week)

Jean Luc Melenchon

Melenchon's flailing campaign caught a bit of a break this week with the exit of Jean Marie Bigard from the stage, who, after Le Pen, stood to benefit Melenchon the most. The three Paris events also went well, alleviating some of the concerns that his campaign was near capitulation. However, there's still a long road to hoe for Melenchon if he hopes to win the presidency.

Rolls: 7,10,4

Current Polling: 9.0% (+.3% from last week)

Benoit Hamon

Hamon had a bit of a rockier week than he has had in previous weeks, but not too much to completely derail the campaign yet. There are warning signs that things could be changing for the Socialist. His Green New Deal Plan attempted to patch some ties with the Greens, and went over a little better than could be expected. However, the visit to Aquitaine blew what other positive momentum Hamon had for the most part.

Rolls: 2,6,5

Current Polling: 7.3% (+.1% from last week)

Xavier Bertrand

Bertrand's back! The  interview the moderate held early in the week definitely helped him get a feeling like the center-right independent could have a shot once again especially with a debate looming. The negative momentum that he'd been building is starting to get wiped away as campaigning really gets down to business. Despite a stumble on Twitter, it wasn't nearly debilitating enough to halt the current trajectory for Bertrand.

Rolls: 10,7,3

Current Polling: 7.0% (+.2% from last week)

Jean Christophe Napoleon

Napoleon's campaign has really revved up this week, and has begun to get some press and name recognition out there. In addition to good polls in Hauts-de-France, the recent week has led Napoleon to above 2% in another state - Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The biggest surprise of the week was an endorsement of Napoleon by Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, who rejuvenated Napoleon's campaign and made him get a blast of momentum leading into the next week.

Rolls: 7,8,4

Current Polling: 1.8% (+.4% from last week)

TF1 announces Round 1 Debate!

All candidates with the exception of Jean Christophe Napoleon were invited to the debate, as they set a standard at 5% of the vote. Napoleon challenged the result (rolled 30/100), but TF1 decided not to change the initial plan and layout of the debate. To participate in the debate, post in your events post three things: your core message, an attack on another candidate, and your target audience.
