2021 Canadian Federal Election

The Blood

Recommended Posts

The date is August 15th. The writ has been dropped, and at the request of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the governor general has called the 44th Canadian Federal Election. With a Liberal Party aspiring to seize a majority in Parliament, Conservative Party looking to find the winning solution for a party leader, New Democratic Party and Bloc Québécois seeking to strengthen their respective positions in Parliament, People's Party hoping to break through with the power of right-wing populism, and divided Green Party struggling to get by amid internal disputes and financial stress, the stage is set for Canada to have an exciting election season which could change everything, or nothing at all.

------

Hello everyone! I thought this would be an interesting and fun RP for me to run, and after consulting with some folks to gauge interest, I think we're set for a full and fun RP! This will be quick shot style, with 10 turns between August 15th and September 20th, and all of the French language and English leaders' debates being including using my traditional rolls system. There will be 3 events per turn required of each player, and hopefully each turn can be accomplished in 1-2 days.

------

Players(Some parties have already been taken via Discord):

Justin Trudeau/Liberal Party - @Fbarbarossa

Erin O'Toole/Conservative Party - @Pringles

Jagmeet Singh/New Democratic Party - @Kitten

Yves-François Blanchet/Bloc Québécois - @Timur

Maxime Bernier/People's Party - @Cenzonico

Annamie Paul/Green Party - @Hestia

Jay Hill/Maverick Party @Patine

------

I'm thinking we should be able to fill the undeclared spots out soon enough, and from there I can post the turn 1 polls and the RP can be set into motion. Thank you!

One of the most anticlimactic (not boring, as some here denounced right after it was finished, though, but anticlimactic is a much better word) elections that I'm aware of whose results were not predetermined by a totalitarian regime. As a Canadian, myself, I might advise humbly you do a different election for that reason, but, of course, it's up to you...

I'd say, that depending on how we perform, alter campaigns and score we could make this election fairly climactic

Is this a necessary response? My post was very courteous and showed observance of the fact it was @The Blood's RP and I was only advising. I don't think this caustic response is needed or warranted. I'm trying to move past bad habits. I think we all should, hmm?

I mean no harm Patine or ill will. Just a little bit of fun. Besides this was something I dug up on the old 270soft forum and it just reminded me of you 🙂

1. The People's Party was unfortunately only a small smudge in the 2019 election. This year... it will be different. Maxime Bernie will kick off the campaign with a rally in his home riding of the Beauce where he slams Trudeau for calling a sham election, calls out Erin O'Toole as a fake conservative, and pledges to bring real conservative values to Canada. He announces the "Mad Max Tour" as he calls it where he pledges to blaze the campaign trail for the next 35 days.

2. The Mad Max Tour will begin in Alberta where he specifically targets oil country. He attacks Trudeau's policy on oil and gas and states that his platform will ensure the oil and gas industry will not only grow in Alberta, but all across Canada!

3. The Mad Max Tour swings over to the riding of Durham where he talks COVID policy. He goes against vaccine mandates, passports, lockdowns, and the like. Don't forget an indirect hit towards O'Toole.

It looks like we've filled out our full cast of players, and with that, it looks like the RP can kick off! After this turn we'll get the first national polls, and hopefully we can set up a basic rhythm for events and rolls based on how quickly you all can get them in. Thank you all, and let's get the RP begin!

1. Elizabeth May will lead the Green campaign in British Columbia, long a well-spring of Green votes. She tours Vancouver and makes the case for a Green future.

2. Annamie Paul will visit two seats in southern Ontario - Kitchener Centre where Mike Morrice did well in 2019, and her own seat she is contesting of Toronto Centre. She will campaign on the idea of a green future of the country and the planet.

3. Green campaigners focus on Prince Edward Island, typically a strong local area of the Greens. They hope to make inroads in an otherwise Liberal area.

@The Blood Is making a full text speech one action, or more than one in a turn? In the Forever and infinity games, it's a more costly action than just rallying and barnstorming, and I've seen speeches in other RP's, so I want to make sure.

This is all meant to be as free-form as possible and open to as little or much effort the players want in their events, so a full speech would just count as one action among the three which are requested per-turn.

1. Erin O'Toole kicks off the campaign in the more liberal areas of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. He calls out Justin Trudeau for calling an election in the middle of a pandemic, saying, "As our country struggles, needing common sense action to fix our problems, and getting us through this pandemic. What is our Prime Minister worried about? Expanding his majority in parliament. And political maneuvers! We need a Prime Minister who will put the interests of the people first! I haven't spent my whole life trying to run for office, but this time Canada, I'm here to win it. Because we need it."

2. O'Toole campaigns in Ottawa promoting his policies of enhancing paid leave for families. Especially extending parental leave.

3. O'Toole campaigns in Toronto. Promoting his moderate beliefs and bashing Trudeau for being concerned about politics only. He again emphasizes his support for enhancing paid leave, and bringing common sense measures to combat the pandemic. He talks about delivering an age of common sense policies throughout Canada, and his hopeful administration.

The Liberals kick off the campaign with a rally in Ottowa

The Liberals will send Marc Garneau to campaign in his home of Quebec City

Justin Trudeau will tour Ontario

Rally: 9. The Liberals pull off an electric start to their campaign, dispelling most concerns over Trudeau's decision to call the election with a strong appeal to their base and voters ready to accept the continued hand of Liberal government.

Marc Garneau: 5. People just don't find the former astronaut interesting for one reason or another.

Ontario: 7. A solid and well-attended tour boosting Trudeau's numbers in the region.

Overall: +6. While many Canadians were initially put-off by the seemingly opportunistic nature of the election being called, the Liberals have kicked off their campaign with energy and strength as a majority may be in sight.

Beauce: 4. It looks like 2021 may in fact be the same as 2019, as the People's Party fails to excite many outside of their base and 4chan with the announced tour. Meanwhile, the people of Bernier's old riding seem to be slightly tired of the far-right antics of their former MEP.

Alberta: 3. Mad Max flounders in Alberta, as most in the province with the oil industry as their top concern seem intent on electing a Conservative Prime Minister, rather than threatening that possibility by voting for a minor party.

Durham: 5. Maxime attracts his base and no one else with his rhetoric on COVID.

Overall: -3. A less-than-ideal start for the PPC as it fails to drum up conservative support and build an effective message.

Mulcair: 8. Tom appears to be a boon for the NDP campaign, drawing out crowds and support across Quebec as he campaigns for the party's cause.

West Coast: 6. Jagmeet has a fair time campaigning along Canada's west coast, but fails to break through significantly.

GTA: 8. However, in Toronto Singh does break through, drawing out large crowds as he crosses the length of the area and boosts the NDP presence there.

Overall: +7. The New Democratic Party kicks off with strength as it builds the momentum needed to break out in the election.

British Columbia: 6. May performs well hitting BC and Vancouver, but fails to make a ground-breaking impact.

Two Seats: 4. Paul fails to make any positive impact in the two ridings, coming off as awkward and stilted as she tries to make her case to voters.

Prince Edward Island: 9. The Greens finally break through with an electric campaign on Prince Edward Island, building up a significant campaign operation boosting their odds in the region.

Overall: +4. The Greens have a solid starting turn as they make gains on Prince Edward Island and start the election with momentum.

Beloeil-Chambly: 6. Blanchet kicks off the Bloc campaign with relative success, but fails to bring any serious energy to the campaign.

Montreal: 1! All of the advertisements and promotional materials for the rally somehow had the wrong date listed, leading to Blanchet showing up for a rally attended by almost no one.

Eastern Quebec: 5. The Bloc fails to excite many voters with the rhetoric.

Overall: -4. With the major blunder of Blanchet's Montreal rally haunting them, the Bloc kicks off the election with a weak start.

Campaign Kick-Off: 2. Most Canadians seem to have accepted the reality of the election, and believe O'Toole should get on with the business of giving his electoral pitch rather than focus the start of his election campaign on the fact that there's an election.

Ottawa: 9. O'Toole's push on the issue appears to be a major lift for the Conservative campaign, helping them appeal to centrists, parents, and family-focused voters with the rhetoric.

Toronto: 2. Most voters just aren't on board for O'Toole's attacks against Trudeau, and after performing well in Ottawa, O'Toole's push on paid leave and centrist messaging both fall flat in Toronto.

Overall: -2. With a mix of two blunders and one success, the Conservative Party starts off the election with a whimper.

Sorry for the delay. Here we go:

1. Jay Hill addresses a crowd at a rented, Calgary private school gymnasium, opening his campaign with a speech.

"Hello, everyone. I'm Jay Hill. You may remember me as the Chief Whip and House Leader of the Conservative Caucus during the Harper Government. But things have changed since Harper left office. And not for the good. In fact, they've gotten worse for the Western Provinces. That's why I'm here, now.

Justin Trudeau, the son of the Prime Minister who passed the National Energy Program and showed the utmost contempt for the Western Province's Constitutional rights of authority, has been elected to Government twice - and now is running again. And his polling looks concerning, as he may well clinch a third term - a third term to do more damage to Western interests, stomp our Province's autonomous rights of government, plunder our resources, and decide who will live here and what arbitrary privileges they enjoy upon arrival. The draconian gun registry, based on the actions of a single terrorist, penalize Western ranchers, farmers, hunters, and outdoors enthusiasts. This cannot stand.

The New Democratic Party, a stern centralist, socialistic, melting pot party long hostile to Provincial autonomy and supporters of resource distribution, when given the opportunity to bring down Trudeau's minority twice in the last session over generally unpopular bills, perhaps even increasing their own voteshare, chose not to, publicly siting, "maintaining stability." It's obvious where their values are.

The Conservative Party now is not the Conservative of Harper and Scheer that I was once proudly a member of. It is now led by a man backed by - and having a long history of support for - Eastern interests. Toronto interests. And that means that plunder of Western resources, and the clipping of the wings of rival Western business, will no doubt be what can be expected.

And the Bloc Quebecois. Egging on the plunder of Western resources and the stomping of Western rights to build up their own nationalism, and presenting the narrative that there is only, "French Canada," and, "English Canada," and that English Canada is an indivisible monolith. They claim to want to leave Canada, but seem intent on gutting it first.

We in the West have had enough! Confederation holds no future for our prosperity in these conditions. We need to spread our wings and make our own future. That's why I'm here, now. The Maverick is the ONLY party that stands for the West!"

2. Rally in Regina calls upon Premier Scott Moe to support Western Sovereignty.

3. Former Alberta MLA Derek Fildebrandt fundraises from oil executives in Fort McMurray.

Speech: 9. Hill knows how to rile up the crowd, with the gym being filled with applause as he kicks off his campaign for western Canada.

Regina: 3. Most people ignore the rally, including the Premier, with a few in the local media running stories on it to mock the Mavericks.

Fundraising: 3. Fildebrandt fails to bring in any serious cash for the party.

Overall: 0. Despite a strong start, the Mavericks fail to organize a significant campaign as the election kicks into gear.

Polls soon.

Turn 2 National Polling:

Liberal Party: 36%

Conservative Party: 28%

New Democratic Party: 22%

Bloc Quebecois: 6%

Green Party: 6%

People's Party of Canada: 2%

Maverick Party: 0%(Note that because the Mavericks are only running in 29 ridings, their national polling will remain low, but even 1% in national polling will indicate a higher percentage of support in the ridings they're contesting)
