Grassley's fundraising emails sound the alarm for donations, senator says he is still considering reelection - The Daily Iowan

Republican Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley announces run for the White House

Grassley sends out a press release as well as a visit in his home state (and coincidentally, the first primary state as well 😉), announcing his bid for the White House. He delivers a speech highlighting his long experience in the Senate and serving Iowans at the uppermost levels. He says that this commitment led him to decide to run for the White House after all these years serving in the Senate, admitting it wasn't something he saw himself doing all those years ago. He says that the radicals running under both party banners need to be stopped, and it was his duty as one of the longest serving senators in Washington to stand up to them.

Grassley says he respects President Gore's decision to step down, but signals in his speech that it is because he thought he wouldn't win in a primary campaign to the firebrand leftists in his party. The senator says that he's going to run a campaign focused on the bread and butter of what Iowans and Americans want - lower taxes, a capable economy, and an America strong abroad. He says that is what he stands for and what the Republican Party would stand for with him at the helm.

Grassley makes little mention of his foes in the primary race, focusing on the bigger picture and standing up against the 'radical Democrats'. He hopes to achieve some sort of unity should he win the nomination, or to leave the nominee in a better place to fight the general election.

Former Representative and Rear Admiral Joe Sestak announces bid for the Democratic Nomination

Sestak announced his bid in his home state of Pennsylvania. In his announcement he made note that a Sestak administration would be one to move the United States into the future and prepare the American people for a rapidly changing world. The former Congressman stated that the main three points of his platform would be: Increased STEM education, expanded healthcare coverage with the introduction of a single payer system not being of the table and a strong but peace orientated foreign policy.

While these are far from the only features of Sestak's platform he repeatedly highlighted that these changes are what is desperately needed in the modern United States. With the growth of groups like ISIS a well thought out foreign policy is needed. With the development of technology creating a new economic basis STEM education is needed to ensure that the youth of America will be able to find work in this new economy. And no one should ever be concerned about their healthcare.

Senate Minority Leader Coleman announces Presidential Bid

Coleman is backed by Senators Charlie Crist and Linda Lingle who serve as his co chairs for his campaign alongside Gov. Jeff Flake

The Minority Leader held a press conference today where he announced his candidacy for the 2012 Republican Nomination

"Good afternoon. Thank you all for being here. Some might say it is a little too early for this announcement but our country is at a crossroads, ladies and gentlemen. We can continue with the policies of Al Gore, where we will continue into an era of isolationism and socialism or we can head into the future of international solidarity against terrorism and where the free market prevails. My fellow Americans, it's time we brought back America to its rightful place in the world. It's time we give Americans a tax cut. It's time we cut our national debt. It's time for a Republicans to fix our broken infrastructure and get us moving into the 21st century. I hope you will join me in my campaign for the Republican Nomination and I hope that we may win. God bless you. God bless America."

My fellow americans.

I speak to you this evening in July with pride. Yes, with pride in the path we have taken, and in the path we still have to take together.

When you elected me, on a beautiful November evening in 2008, our country was facing great threats. Our economy was in ruins, our society was far behind what should be the country that has led the way of democracy in the world since its foundation as a republic.

Let's be proud of how far we've come. Together, we have put millions of unemployed people back to work, regardless of their political affiliations or where they live. This means millions of households with improved living conditions, and millions of children out of poverty.

Our nation has also learned to take back the path to freedom. We have come a long way since the bullets that unjustly killed Harwey Milk were supposed to open the door to every closet. We have humbly tried to honor his memory, and that of millions of our citizens who fought since Stonewall Inn in secularizing basic civil rights such as marriage. I am proud that the right to marry is recognized by a growing number of our citizens as being independent of any religious consideration. Civil marriage does not take away religious freedom, but rather continues the great road to civil equality that Martin Luther King laid out fifty years ago.

My thoughts also go out to all the victims of the war on drugs, who instead of being treated as people in need of help were for too long treated as criminals. Such double punishment could not be tolerated.

I deplore the arrival of the Islamic State in Iraq, which is why I have always opposed intervention in that country. Let there be no doubt, an Islamic state can only oppose the very existence of the United States of America. We will eradicate this bloodthirsty totalitarian spawn by working with the Republicans. We must have only one line in this matter, that of eradicating these terrorists who are thirsty for imperialism and who carry a project of death.

We will also work in a bipartisan manner to establish an infrastructure project with the Republicans in the Senate until the next presidential election.

In conclusion my fellow citizens, let me say this:

The United States of America is the culmination of a dream. The dream that we collectively stand out as the first freedom fighters. Our freedom is already providential in itself. There is no more stable democracy that has survived wars and centuries without an autocrat ever taking it over. Through the challenges that remain for our administration, and as you have renewed a fully Democratic administration, I will respect the very foundations of our Constitution and work with every branch of government in the months ahead.

Later that same night

"Are you decided to what you do about next primaries mister president?"

Al Gore : Call the Vice Presidential office. I am a man of my words, I promised Sherrod Brown an endorsement by 2012, I won't run again if he does want to go.

Advisor : Are you sure sire? If you would run now, the party would stand behind you and..well, the vice president is more progressive than you are.

Al Gore : The party would not be better if I began breaking my pledges. Call the vice-president, I want to talk with him to confirm that he is set to run as candidate in the next democratic primary. If so he will receive my endorsement.

Advisor : Yes mister president.

(7) While there is not necessarily a huge backlash the majority of Americans favor their president and hate to see him go. However most Democrats will (some begrudgingly) support Vice President Brown.

"But what about those who haven't joined in the prosperity this nation has achieved in the last 4 years? What about the people who are seeing their rural towns, communities, suffer from the fate of crumbling infrastructure. What about the blue collar worker who continues to not have a candidate speak up for him? And isn't full of the empty promises they've been selling you on for the last 3 decades?"

"My fellow Americans. I enter this race as a committed Conservative. I'm Pro-Life. I'm a proud supporter of the Tea Party's efforts, and I'm most of all, a proud Republican."

"I promise to stand up for Americans who have been left out. We're not going to be a blast to the past with the same old rhetoric that cost us 2008. We're not going to engage in nation building. We are going to reinvigorate President Ronald Reagan's philosophy of 'Peace Through Strength.' Under the Presidency of Al Gore we've seen a new terrorist threat emerge."

"We've listened to how good the effects of a public option are in our nation. But what we're seeing with many people who sign up, their rates never get any lower..."

"Are we going to let this slide? Or are we going to WORK?!"

"There's much to do ladies and gentleman. The fight against ISIS ensues. The fight for upholding traditional family values continues. And most of all, the fight for retaking the VERY HALLS OF CONGRESS ENSUES!"

"Let's send the Democrats a message this fall. NO ONE. Is left behind!"

"LET US HAVE THE COURAGE TO FIGHT FOR AMERICA!"

Vice President Sherrod Brown Officially Announces Candidacy for President of The United States

After nearly 3 long years of speculation, Vice President Brown has officially announced his bid to be the next President of the United States on a stage in Mansfield Ohio. Just 1 week after President Gore made it official that he would be stepping down from the office after just one term, Sherrod Brown makes his case as the next in line to the presidency, having won a plurality of the votes in 2008 and serving as a popular Vice President.

Sherrod Brown Speaks Following Senate Victory | Fox 8 Cleveland WJW

"My friends, the people of America. It's been a wonderful three years so far as your Vice President, and I'm proud to have taken on the role of serving you. You may have heard that my friend and colleague Albert Gore announced yesterday that he officially would decline a second term at the office that he has loved so much. First and foremost, I'd like to thank President Gore for a wonderful three years and hope that we can accomplish much more in the time that we have left together. Al and I have found great pride in serving you together and in all that we've accomplished with the mandate that you gave us three years ago, even if I remember it like it was yesterday."

"In the last three years, our administration has accomplished much in our service to the American people, giving every man woman and child in this nation a Presidency that they can look at with a smile on their face. We put forward a stimulus package to deal with the financial crisis and we've seen years of economic growth from this, able to turn around the country in a way that no one thought we could. President Gore and I have slowed the outsourcing of jobs to China and other foreign nations that harm our workers and our economy for their own greed. We were able to add a public option to the healthcare system and fully guarantee coverage for every citizen of this nation, while pulling together the many great nations of this world for a summit to help solve the ever-pressing issue of climate change. We have presided over the expansion of marriage rights to the LGBT community, seeing the most vast expansion of civil liberties since the 1970s. We have dampened the evil war on drugs by decriminalizing the use of marijuana across this nation while presiding over the normalization of usage of marijuana medicinally in many of the nation's states. The War on Terror has been successful in a way that it hadn't been in the previous administration, seeing the death of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden and the slow withdrawal of troops from Iraq. I could go on and on, but what I mean to say is that we've accomplished more in one term of the presidency than any one term since the Johnson administration."

"This is why, on this great day in 2011, I, Sherrod Campbell Brown from the great state of Ohio, officially announce my candidacy for President of the United States. Many of my Republican friends and colleagues have already stated their intentions to run in this race as well, and I would like to formally wish them good luck and for a productive campaign season."

"To the American people: I am here to promise you a continuation of the success that we have seen in the past 4 years and more. We will continue to encourage the expansion of civil liberties across this great nation and once again show the world why we are the shining house on the hill for the rest of the world to look at in awe and wonder as a bastion of freedom! We are going to continue to guarantee that every single working man and woman has the opportunity to succeed, the opportunity to achieve the American dream! I will usher in a new age of economic growth and progress unseen since the New Deal, ensuring fair - not free - trade between the United States and the nations of the world, while supporting workers of all paths: blue collar workers, white collar workers, young workers, old workers, public sector workers, self-employed workers, rural workers, urban workers, union workers, each and every one of you! Our America will take the necessary steps forward to be an America for everyone and anyone! 4 years ago I stood on this very stage to bring forward my vision to the people of America, and by and large you agreed! Here I am to do it again, and a Brown Administration: by the people, of the people, for the people will ensure that each and every one of you has the right to succeed, thank you for coming and God Bless America!

"I have been fighting for progressive policy for decades now. I was the man who read the Pentagon papers into congressional record. I was the man who lead the charge against nuclear energy. I fought against the Vietnam war as much as I could! Thirty years after all of that, Alaska graciously decided to give me another chance. Another chance to serve as their representative. Another chance as their senator. But under a different banner. A different letter attached to my name. The Democratic Party I served with valiantly, but they have failed progressives across the nation. President Gore has indeed brought much needed change to this nation. But this change is not enough! Gore - Brown meeting in the oval Office

Al Gore : The position that you take is good. It is important to keep both wings of the party together for the next presidential election. I am thankfull that Senator Sanders remain a real force in the party. If he wants to push his vote through we can let a free vote but we won't force representatives and senators in their vote considering what we have archieved for a public option so far, which has a majority support in the opinion.

My goal in 2008 was to win in a landslide, I would have expected a narrower victory by 2012. I think that we are in the same kind of situation for you. Our goal is to secure 270 great electors for you by next year, 300 or plus would be lovely if we can try, but we are certainly more in the defensive than the offensive.

He looked back at 2008 results

Image

Our 2008 victory was spectacular. We almost carried Missouri and Indiana too.

I expect the next election around to lean toward us but we will have a tough time defending the south, this is why your moderacy is important to lead the party forward.

I will personnaly focus on foreign strikes against ISIS in the next months. Our administration will work with Republicans on infrastructure so that even if we have a majority they don't claim to be left aside.

In 3 years we have already drifted America to the left on everything. We need to be a bit bipartisan this final year and to keep everyone together in the "progressive liberal and moderate" coalition if we want to maintain our control over Congress beyond my presidency.

I already have an idea.

Wolf Blitzer gets personal while defending impeachment inquiry witnesses' immigrant backgrounds - CNN Video

The president of the United States announces that an international coalition has began in order to strike back the ISIS in Iraq.

Correspondant : Yes Wolf, the president of the United States Al Gore has formally requested to british Prime Minister David Cameron, french president Nicolas Sarkozy and german chancellor Angela Merkel to formally follow him in a coalition and calls the UN for a formal meeting in the next week-end to start strikes on the bases where forces of the Islamic group have began to gather.

The president has already told that he wished a swift and strong reply against the terrorist organization and so he was ready to go alone if necessary, however the US favorize multilateralism under the current administration and this is why a quick diplomatic meeting has been called.

Wolf : The president has also received the former administration in the oval office today is not it?

Correspondant : Yes president Gore has received former president George W Bush and fmr vice president Dick Cheney to the White House for a formal meeting. The president has discussed with them about several topics, including the focus of the United States on striking key points in Iraq. The president is surprisingly tough in his will to strike back the terrorist organization and the reception of the former administration could highlight his will to make of this foreign case and of the infrastructure plan a real transpartisan debate.

Bush, Gore bond over warming at White House

Later that night the White House has also delivered a public statement signed by President Gore.

The communiqué says that the president fully endorse Vice-President Sherrod Brown to lead the country forward. He is certain that the current Vice president can be a bridge between wings of the party like he did to his best during his years as vice president and president of the United States.

Wolf : Did the communiqué said anything about the candidacy of Joe Sestak ?

Correspondant : Yes the president has not ignored that. He maintains his position on a firm support for his vice-president but acknowledges the qualities of the admiral. He also believes that it will allow a greater number of voters to join the Democratic party and create a real interest in the primary, which could be good for the presidential election next year.

The president also recently told in a 66 minutes interview that republican candidates for the next primary were really different and "an improvement" from what he experienced in the 2010 Midterms, he also told good words about Bill de Blasio in which the president notes that "he represents New Yorkers". The president concluded that even if he did not want that votes be spread in the next presidential election, he knows the the progressive and moderate coalition will be able to count on Senator Gravel of Alaska.

Do you know why president Gore won?

Because we all come from a generation of sudists who could gather both citizens from big cities, and farmers from rural areas.

The democratic party NEEDS to keep talking to rural areas

WE ARE the party of rural areas ! It's not the republicans ! We are the ones who stand for their right to exist and survive, we are the ones who want an Agricultural department, we are the ones who stand for local productions.

As Senator I will carry legislations and vote exclusively on policies which maintain the way of life and the prosperity of every farmers of Georgia. We're the peach state for a good reason, we are a very productive part of the country and under my tenure as senator, farmers will be protected and defended. I will strongly push to support registration of black voters from Atlanta, Macon, Savannhah and minor cities, but we will also stand for the rurality of Georgia in the same time.

We do not choose our fight, but we fight for everyone.

Representative Pete Buttigieg (D-Indiana 2nd of the House of Reps) publicly comes out as the third openly gay federal politician in office to come out without being outed.

Democratic candidate Buttigieg: 'No going back' in fight for LGBTQ rights | Reuters.com

Interviewer : Why did you decide to come out?

Pete Buttigieg : The question is right and I will reply to you this way. In 2010, when I decided to run as US representative instead of mayor for South Bend, I was faced with a question. Can we be who we are without being judged for it?

The question is real. Should I wait my death so that it be known like for Stewart McKinney and Barbara Jordan? Should I be outed a way or another like for Gerry Studds, Robert Bauman, Jon Hinson or Steve Gunderson?

Steve Gunderson was particulary shamelessly treated, being outed on the floor of the House 17 years ago. He was a republican, but I do not see his party affiliation, I see a man who probably faced the same internal questions than I faced.

So, who are my 2 predecessors? You saw that there is no senator. My two predecessors are Barney Frank and Jim Kolbe. Barney Frank is a brave member of the House as he was the first ever US politician to come out, Jim Kolbe used his sexual orientation to bring a legitimacy to the Defense of Marriage Act, I don't think that such a coming out was positive for civil rights.

Barney Frank comes from a state which is nowadays reliably democratic, and that some people would call as "liberal". I wanted to show that you can live in a rust belt state such as Indiana, which is certainly not on the coast, and still be who you are without suffering from any electoral sanction. I am certain that a lot of US representatives or even senators, who come from "less progressive states" are still bogged down in the same hesitations I shared up to this moment.

Interviewer : Has the president's speech from a week ago decided you?

Pete Buttigieg : The president was not especially focusing on civil rights, he did both for same sex marriage and for the war on drugs, however when he called back the words of Harwey Milk, that bullets killing him may destroy the door of every closets, yes, it definitively talked to me. And I will be candidate again as US representative for Indiana 2nd by 2012. If I lose, it won't be because I am gay, nor if I win, this is what I will proove, and I hope that others colleagues follow my example.

Governor Trump Announces Efforts for an Infrastructure Bill in New York

"My fellow New Yorkers. Beautiful, New Yorkers. I come here live on your state news channels to inform you of my decision to work closely with Republicans in the New York State House, and state Senate in order to bring proper infrastructure legislation to our great state. For too long have the bickering in the halls of Washington D.C. prevent proper infrastructure recovery in our state and it is my intention to pass one that will address the concerns of both urban, and rural New York. Although I think it's pretty obvious our rural New Yorkers need it more."

"Within the coming months we will also be taking action on harmful, environmental legislation that is putting hard working men and women in our state out of work, and we will eliminate them"

"With that said, following these 2 crucial pieces of legislation we are also going to cut taxes. Cutting taxes are great, the people of New York especially need it. For too long have the Democrats in this state ran away with the people's money. We're going to cut it. And we're going to cut it big by the end of the year.

"Thank you. This is Governor Trump signing off."

Turn 1:

With Al Gore officially not running for re-election Vice President Sherrod Brown is the obvious favorite for Democrats, although the unexpected strong start of Joe Sestak could warrant Brown to campaign earlier than wanted. Also Gravel could peel some votes away from a Democratic nominee.

Meanwhile on the Republican side it’s a 3 way battle between Senate Majority Leader Coleman who had a lukewarm reception with many more moderate support, Former Senator Rick Santorum who hopes to ride the tea party wave, and Senator Chuck Grassley, who is hoping for a springboard from his home state.

Now if anyone wants any specific polls please either message me here or on discord. Each candidate for President gets 3 events per turn including one major endorsement request. (Former Presidents, nominees and major party leaders) and up to two minor endorsements. Endorsements requests go with events, but beware, while good rolls will benefit you more, negative rolls will hurt you more. Enjoy and have fun, I’m so happy to begin this again! @Rezi @The Blood @Fbarbarossa @Rodja @Pringles @Hestia @Edouard @Kitten @Dobs @WVProgressive @Cenzonico

  1. Sherrod Brown will have a meeting with his good friend, Senator Tom Harkin. Harkin's endorsement was key to Brown's victory in the Hawkeye state in 2008 and Brown would like to get out there once again rallying together.
  2. Sherrod Brown will meet with Dennis Kucinich to hold a rally together in Cleveland.
  3. Sherrod Brown will use his status as the Vice President to give a speech over the Senate in which he argues in favor of reinstating Glass-Steagall to protect the financial system from another 2008-like recession.

Downballot/Event 4: Sherrod Brown will hold a rally in Connecticut with Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman. Here, Wyman will announce her candidacy to be the next Class I Senator from Connecticut, whether Joe Lieberman runs for re-election or not. Brown says that Wyman will have his backing all the way through the election, and that she'll be necessary to "flip Connecticut from the Independent Column and back into the Democratic Column". Brown focuses on Wyman's liberal politics and support of many of the issues that have helped the country in the last year, putting some emphasis on Lieberman's refusal to support the public option and his advocacy for the Iraq War.

Mike Gravel may be a old dog, but he's got the fighting spirit within him! Gravel holds the Gravel 2012 inaugural campaign rally in Anchorage where he lays the foundation of his campaign. He proclaims the need for a "real political revolution" and talks about Medicare for All, the cutting of military spending, ending the war on drugs, political reform, and puts an emphasis on climate change. He states the need for a so-called "Green New Deal", an act that would push through sweeping legislation to move away from dirty energy such as fossil fuel and a move towards clean renewable energies.

Mike Gravel flies over to Los Angeles where he tries to energize the progressive, young, liberal vote in the city. These voters will be key for the Gravel campaign to have a good showing come November.

Gravel stays in the city but decides to do a tour of Latino neighborhoods to make a play and try to reach the Gravel campaign to minority voters. He pledges to fight for minority rights and rightful, just immigration reform.

Endorsement request: Along with trying to energize young progressive voters, the Gravel campaign will also need support from left-wing media to keep the campaign in the spotlight. The campaign opens communication with the Young Turks where in exchange for an endorsement, select people from TYT will be employed by the Gravel team to help with outreach in-person and online.

Jason Carter (D-Georgia for US senate) presents his plan to the DNC to make of the party "The party of counties, not only cities" by 2012 2014 2016 and 2020

At 90, Carter on campaign trail - POLITICO

The proposed party platform contains several measures that the democratic senator thinks are needed to make Democrats competitive all accross the south and nationally in rural areas by next elections cycles

Several measures :

-Pledge to freeze the level of taxations and drop it for the middle class

-Strenghten the department for Agriculture by increasing its budget at the disfavor of another

-Protect the right for private schools to exist

-Promise not to interfere with right to carry hunting rifles

-Support actions to create rural credits and special insurances for farmers

-Fiscally favorize implantation of doctors and commerces in villages

The senator is sure that those measures will show that democrats are more delivering for rural areas than Republicans who economically tend to favorize free market and so which can creates situations where rural areas actually miss doctors and commerces, also the creation of rural credits can give further protections to farmers and agricultors who for a good part work hard and have moderate wages.

Governor Gore III of Tennessee has took the decision to marry his wife to give to his constituents more of the image of a family man and to end debates around his past

Albert Gore, Son of Al and Tipper Gore, Marries in D.C. | PEOPLE.com

He gives an interview in which he says : Do you know why I taken drugs 10 years ago? Because I experienced this as a children.

The governor of Tennessee displayed an article from 1989

GORE'S SON STABLE AFTER ACCIDENT

Albert Gore III, the 6-year-old son of Sen. Albert Gore Jr. (D-Tenn.), was in serious but stable condition yesterday after being struck by a car as he and his father left the Baltimore Orioles

When you recover from something like this, there are traumatisms which remain, and certainly, the reason why I consumed drugs 11 years later has a link with this traumatism in my childhood.

How many children experienced the same? How many US citizens suffered from drug problems, and were treated like criminals during the war on drugs? Their name was not exposed, neither in their car accident, their childhood traumatisms, nor in their police charges. Because their father were not Vice-President or President.

That is why one of my priorities as Govenor of Tennessee will be to implement in the volunteer state one of the most direct and radical policy to tackle child poverty / domestic abuses / and any form of child traumatism, like what I experienced with my car accident and to make sure that the number of youths consuming drugs be divided by two in 4 years.

The state of Tennessee will have a dedicated service and a phone line in charge of receiving witnesses of child abuses, or which would indict that a child may have suffered of a great sufferance like a car accident and will make sure that any of these children may benefit, if they wish, of a psychological assistance along their life.

We will also later devellop a statehood program which will especially focus on tackling child poverty, I especially believe about ensuring to every children of Tennessee the right to a fair lunch every day. With that the state will make everything possible to improve our network of public schools, both pre-school and medium schools. Improving our Educationnal system is something that has been ignored for too long in Tennessee.

Attorney General of New York Rudy Giuliani Issues a Statement

"My fellow Americans, New Yorkers, press corps, and everybody attending this short brief period of remarks I wanted to make today. As times goes on I've just wanted to publicly apologize for my hand in the actions concerning the President's son, Governor Gore of Tennessee. These actions were disrespectful, and representative of a much more chaotic time than the one we find ourselves in today.

"Obviously the trauma of nearly losing a family member, friend, or even your own life as a child can influence us to do things that are unacceptable. However, in no circumstances should these acts be exploited in the way they were a couple years ago. So on behalf of myself, and the Republican Party, I apologize once more."

"Thank you, and good day."
