And I'll even admit that some of my fellow Bernie Sanders supporters are also autopilot voters as well.

But in regard to Israel, I don't like the fact that so many people are taking a side -- pro-Israel vs pro-Palestine. I don't understand why one can't be for both people equally.

My personal thoughts are that both Hamas and Netanyahu look like murderers. I think both Israelis and Palestinians are equally victims in this. I think Netanyahu had both a right and an obligation to respond militarily, but it's unraveled into something of a disaster, humanitarianly speaking.

Ideally, I'd want to see the following:

    • Hamas destroyed and barred from politics.
    • Hamas leaders and allies face UN war crimes tribunal, where they will either be acquitted or found guilty.
    • Israelis people free of a humanitarian crisis.
    • Netanyahu and closest allies face UN war crimes, where they will either be acquitted or found guilty.
    • If found guilty, Netanyahu and his closes allies are barred from office.
    • Palestinian people free of humanitarian crisis.
    • An independent Palestinian nation or nations (if Gaza and West Bank are split) with Gaza rebuilt in a sort of Marshall Plan.

I think Netanyahu probably had options to respond better than he did. My opposition isn't to Israel, but it is to him. My opposition isn't to Palestinians, but to Hamas's decisions to strike at Israel without considering the lives of the people in Gaza. I think there's an unforgivable and unjustifiable heartlessness on both sides from their respective leaders.

The first step to resolving this on-going conflict is the one that is always talked about. Grant total independence for Palestine.

I'm 100% both pro-Israeli people and pro-Palestinian people, but I'm not supportive of their governments or the violence, because both Netanyahu and Hamas are clearly incompetent and lacking in empathy. I do think the situation is a humanitarian crisis. I am conflicted to call the war a genocide because there are at least weak efforts to see the population moved out of danger and weak efforts to send humanitarian aid.

Almost everyone I know is either on one side or the other. I don't see it that black or white.

I didn’t know you were so based on this issue! Maybe someday we’ll get the world where the CIA coups both Hamas and Likud!

Until then, one of the two sides is at least marginally pro-US and the other isn’t so that makes the decision easy.

I would say Elected Federal Judges could just be an abstract thing as we don't physically have Federal Judges in the game. But then why the special election rules (which is a whole other thing that will need worked out).  So I'm leaning more toward they created 2 bills for the same thing and didn't realize it.

Agreed. The language specifying "national election" makes me think that they meant Supreme Court Justices, as well as the fact that "Federal Judges" has previously been used to mean Supreme Court Justices, as in the 8-Year Term Limits for Supreme Court Justices amendment.

So what do we think this does?

    vs

Make Supreme Court Justices Elected Amendment

Not sure. Direct Election of Federal Judges has its special rules laid out whereas Make Supreme Court Justices Elected doesn't. They could be two quickly-thrown together attempts at the same law, or maybe there's a distinction between Supreme Court Justices and Federal Justices?

  13. A surprise scandal has hit Mario Cuomo!

After some investigative journalism over these last few months, a team of nonpartisan investigators reveal to the press shortly before the second ballot that, in January, Governor Mario Cuomo went to a routine checkup with his physician, where he expressed concern over a cough. After antibiotic treatment failed, he went in for a scan to see if anything was wrong. This scan revealed the presence of Stage 2 Lung Cancer, which both may have contributed to his lack of campaign success and raises questions about integrity and his fitness to run the nation.

Mario Cuomo has gained -5 momentum!

Newman pushes progressives to abandon McGovern

Newman will meet with progressive democrats in Ohio and California and will try to convince them to abandon McGovern stating that “we’ll see a 50 state landslide loss if we nominate him”

McGovern: 6. Newman's posturing has little impact on Teflon George, but he does get a few Hollywood liberals to see his plight.

    1) Kerrey will meet with Plains representatives to try to get them to abandon McGovern in favor of Kerrey as a custodian-like agreement over those delegates.

    2) Kerrey will appeal to moderate party leaders to try to gain some lost ground.

    3) Kerrey will meet with members of nearby midwestern representatives to try to gain a few delegates.

Plains: 10! Bob Kerrey's meeting with Plains representatives goes incredibly well. His rise on the first ballot was unexpected to many delegates, so some attention is coming his way and being a Nebraskan moderate makes support from the Plains easier to gain.

Moderates: 7. They don't all love him, but with McGovern and Cuomo as the two leading candidates, and Moynihan's ideology being a bit complex at times, it's easy for moderates to see themselves coalescing around Kerrey.

Midwest: 9. Kerrey makes a strong pitch to strengthen his grip on his second strongest region. Particularly in some of the more Plainsy states of the Midwest.

Overall: +11. Some incredible momentum for Bob Kerrey this turn. Kerrey's charisma black hole made him a nonstarter for primary voters, but he does have some damn good skill as an insider.

Moynihan mingles with delegates in the North East, hoping to peel away Cuomo and McGovern heads alike.

Moynihan invites New Yorks own Beastie Boys to come to the convention and drop some lines, hoping to energize Moyniheads and peel away younger McGovern delegates.

Moynihan calls up Bill Clinton, with some coaxing from Ann Richards, Bill could be a great asset to utilize on southern delegates.

Northeast: 6. Moynihan is able to make a bit of progress, but McGovern delegates are very dug-in and Cuomo delegates are far too afraid of The Prophet to do much of anything.

Beastie Boys: 6. The band declines, but they send a message out to the world calling for "civility and love" to return to America.

Orthodox Rabbi: 5. Governor Clinton is still waiting to see what needs to happen.

Overall: +2. It wasn't an incredible turn, but at least it wasn't a bad one.

Alright time to get down to business

    1) Traficant calls up Paul Wellstone, Tim Penny, and Colin Peterson. He asks them to talk some sense into the Minnesota delegation.

    2) Meanwhile, Traficant meets with Ohio delegates, hoping to peel off the ones who seem to be still with George McGovern.

    3) Traficant then meets with the Maine Delegation, noticing the small delegation in an intense split. He mingles with them, with the aim of getting delegates from all sides, especially the McGovern ones.

Minnesota: 1! These guys have all been fully behind Traficant before now, but some sense of post-ballot clarity has suddenly hit them, and they suddenly are finding him to be rather revolting. Peterson is even seen weeping in the corner for the fact that Traficant won his home county.

Ohio: 2. Traficant has misread the Ohian room a bit with this one. What he hadn't quite understood is that a large majority of his Ohian delegates aren't exactly huge advocates of his, they moreso see him as a means to an end who exists to keep delegates away from McGovern.

Maine: 10! But the Maine delegation? Big Jim fans. He wows them with his aggressive go-getter attitude and willingness to speak his mind. They have not found anyone properly to coalesce around, so can that be Traficant?

Overall: -3. Not a great turn for Traficant, but at least he's able to salvage some favor with the Maine delegation.

    1. The Prophet will flay Cuomo delegates alive at the entrance to the convention floor. Send them a message!

    2. The Prophet will disseminate flyers in the hotel rooms of Southern delegates promising to "Put the Klan back in its place as an essential partner to the Democratic Party!"

    3. OJ Simpson will appear in nationwide TV ads claiming that he and The Prophet have already been nominated by the Democratic Party, and that the general election has begun. "We fit hand-in-glove into the nomination in NYC, and now it's time to take on Bush and win!"

Flay: 10! The message is sent. Cuomo was already starting to shed delegates, and now his remaining delegates are shedding their skin! Fear has been struck into the heart of convention attendees, and enough of the convention police force are Northern European protestants that there's no way to stop the Prophet.

South: 8. The South is finally starting to see McGovern as a true believer of the southern cause. Notably, he's able to come to an agreement with Alabama Senator Richard Shelby, who promises to get the Alabama delegates in line.

Soda, OJ, Purple Stuff: 9. The ads are a rousing success, and all of a sudden delegates to the convention find themselves swamped by calls from constituents expressing their support for the McGovern/Simpson ticket.

Overall: +12, -1 (Newman) = +11. Wow, McGovern had a great turn last time, but not he's just bringing it back. He wants to lock up this nomination here and now. Can he?

Cuomo will again pull his strings with the party bosses

The Cuomo campaign will employ the Goldman family to look into Simpson

Finally, the Cuomo campaign will bring in two special operatives to investigate McGovern after his odd speech.

Twin Peaks': Sheriff Harry Truman Recast: Michael Ontkean, Robert Forster

Sheriff Harry S. Truman and Special Agent Dale Cooper

Strings: 3. At this point, Cuomo's strings are so old and worn thin that he can't really do much pulling at all without completely snapping.

Goldman: 5. Look, look and look they do. But nothing is found. Cuomo is just lucky that nothing about this has come out, investigating political opponents in 1992 doesn't come across very well.

McGovern: 7. Truman and Cooper make their rounds, investigating and letting their results be known. However, their conclusions really just end up being "yeah this mf crazy", which does still hurt him, but not much.

Overall: 0. A complete nothing turn for Cuomo, which is good enough for second worst this time.
