Senator Kerrey addresses the convention with eye on November
"I stand for a Democratic Party that is the party of Jefferson, the party of Roosevelt. I do not stand for a party that is the party of McGovern. Whatever has gotten into him is not of this Earth, I fear. Even God wouldn't recognize the man anymore. He deserves to be looked at closely in a mental institution, not be coronated as the nominee of this Democratic Party. But this isn't just about him, it is about who we choose to go up against Bush and Perot. Governor Cuomo does not seem to have the numbers to get through and be the challenger we need. I, along with other candidates, gave him a chance to go up against McGovern 1 on 1, but he has since flubbed that opportunity. He continues to sink further behind, not catch up. I can be that candidate, be forging alliances between our plains communities and our urban ones. Together, we will rescue this party from the charlatans that are running and the Republicans and Perot."
