  1. Pretty sure the headline would be "President Shot!" rather than candidate... just saying
  2. Is it not possible to break or revoke the treaty? I understand how implausible it would be for a nation to do so irl... 😕
  3. Given Douglass was the sitting President, does he not get an incumbency bonus in the primaries?
  4. Is there a law irl stopping President's taking on other roles or is it just convention?
  5. Just viewing US Grant come off the career track well after the Civil War got me thinking... can I get clarity on what role being on the Military track has during wars? I seem to remember reading in a thread career trackers could be killed during battles. Is there benefits too?
  6. Is it permanent permanent or only permanent until he gets elected? That would make more sense as once he got elected his past action would be forgotten... just a thought.
  7. A minus 1 in all elections may make a career in Congress difficult too....
  8. Can I ask about the anonymous Abe Lincoln please. It's not that he hasn't been successful, I could accept that... but he hasn't even been mentioned in a few cycles. Surely as a high quality candidate he should at least be put forward for positions. Could someone explain please.
  9. I've gotta start with the Globe of course! Went to a production at the New Globe when in London in 2005. Great experience.
  10. Maybe they stay in for flavour and get selected at random at the time of the event?
  11. On @OrangeP47 last point, I was shocked when a friend at work who is a US citizen told me you guys have both Federal and State Income Tax. Our constitution reserves this type of taxation for the Federal govt here. Maybe a Constitutional Amendment making Taxation a solely Federal responsibility? On Education - banning home schooling, funding for private schools, banning funding for private schools, government control of colleges, banning private investment in colleges, banning specific industries donating to colleges (like big oil), regulation around identifying who has paid for research papers. Warfare - US gives up Nuclear weapons. US withdraws from NATO. US withdraws from UN treaty, will use chemical weapons if deemed necessary to protect the nation. US signs international land mine ban treaty. Online warfare with other country/nefarious online actor of unknown origin. Space - US declares space above US to be sovereign, any intrusion into the area to be considered an act of war. Private companies banned from space. US leads push (or joins push) to internationalise space, UN becomes responsible for all future missions through new Agency. Elections - online voting, reduced age of voting, removal of age limit to run for president, Regulation - Federal government takes control of work entitlements, total portability of work benefits such as sick leave. Taxation - Compulsory Superannuation (and the level of minimum contribution of it). Land Tax introduced as a yearly tax on the primary residence, or only on a 2nd and subsequent property, rate of land tax) Health - Prescription drug pricing regulations (either setting caps on the price that can be charged or subsidising the price directly to the manufacturer) April Fools Day 2032 - US sets Mar-a-Lago as Presidential residence. 1600 Pennsylvannia Ave turned into the National Museum of 2nd rate Presidents.
  12. A few proposals on a knife edge at the moment... with no VP, is there a deciding vote on bills with 14/28? If not, do they pass or fail?
  13. Can't help but notice that the Secretaries of the Navy and Army suck. @Cal was this planned to throw the wars or did you pick them for other reasons?
  14. Please remember, I'm not American so how realistic they are, I'll defer to those who have studied US history in more depth but from my limited reading... Federal funding for Pony Express (which ran a loss and closed within a year I believe - maybe a chance of QOL improvement v a chance of an economic loss), Trans continental railway (Federal speeding up construction providing a QOL v Economic payoff; Gov action for a group of Mid western states on where it meets with proposal providing an economic payoff for increased trade) Improvement of internal waterways ( I recall this was specifically banned by the Confederate States Constitution so it must have been an issue for a few Southern states leading to actions - but I don't know why). Can individual states grant voting rights to Indians and/or women for state elections? This may be too difficult to model in the game but it may allow Women to run for Gov even if they can't run for Fed office. Maybe give them access to career tracks even though they can't yet run for office. For historical context - In Australia some Colonies gave women the right to vote before Federation leading to the situation where women could vote in state elections but not Federally. NSW gave women the vote at a state level after they had the right Federally. Related but different, NZ gave women the right to vote in 1890 but not the right to stand until after 1900.
  15. I concur with @themiddlepolitical Off the top of my head... A cup and saucer for the Tea Party... A group in outline for the Squad... A bulldog for the Blue Dogs... A Toupee/Coif for the Trumpists...
  16. What's the advantage of linking a Kingmaker and protege? I assume an electoral advantage? Anything else?
