Ok at this point the vote stands

Votes for House for Ambrose Burnside: 152 needed: 93-150

Votes for Senate for Ambrose Burnside: 46 needed: 46-24

This means we will not get, even if Joe and Ark vote yay, the 152 needed.

SO we are going to do this.

Pres Pro Temp John J. Ingalls @matthewyoung123 please choose 5 people (can be D or R or both) and put them on forum.  President Cannon will then pick one of them and that person is automatically confirmed.  They must have at least 1 command and be at least 35 years old

    Aye to all

    Welcome to 1878-1880!

The Democrats have managed to win the House of Representatives but the Senate and the White House still remains in the hands of the GOP.  Many question how long the GOP will keep the White House.  Will they lose it in 1880?  Will President Washburn break a long tradition of the late great President Washington and run again or will another rising star in the GOP like Senator Henry Wilson, Faction Leader of the Cool Cats James A. Garfield, Ex-VP Hannibal Hamlin, 1856 candidate John C. Freemont, ex-President Ulysses S. Grant, Senator Rutherford B. Hayes, Secretary of the Navy Edwin M. Stanton, Speaker of the House James "cocaine" Blaine, Secretary of the Treasury John Sherman, or someone else not named run and perhaps win?

Who will the Democrats run in 1880?  Perhaps 1876 candidate Congressman George H. Pendleton, Ex-CSA VP Alexander Stephens, 1864 candidate George B. McClellan, Congressman Fernando Wood, Governor Henry Huntley Haught, Governor Theodore Fitz Randolph, Ex-General Winfield Scott Hancock, or someone else who can rise?

The Democrats are currently run by Congressman Pendleton but true power really lies with the moderates led by Governor Theodore Randolph who still wants reform as well as law and order and Congressman Wood who longs to bring the country together while protecting the country in trade. The GOP is run by President Washburn still pushing for Civil Rights as well as moving to the right with Wall Street but the GOP still has a large following of Radical Republicans currently led by Elihu B. Washburne yet Blaine and Burnside's factions are rising as well.

The country has balanced its budget yet the economy is still in panic due to the 1877 Panic.  We are friendly or allies with most of the major powers in the world and our military are top notch. Yes there are occasional protests and yes life is awful for most but the Democrats feel they can turn things around.  The issue is will they be able to work with the GOP or will the GOP block everything with hate resulting in nothing being done in the next two years. Time will tell

Those 3 were chosen by committee chairs and they go right to be voted on as laws not having to have the committee vote on them

General Events aka Anytime Evos: CONTINUED

    4. Joel Parker @Imperator Taco Cat,  we might have found the right person for a keynote speech, David R Francis certainly has a way with words! Francis gains orator

    5. President Washburn @Blockmon, we have been informed by Benjamin Butler's staff that he has been given a worrying diagnosis.  The specifics were not given, but we can expect that it might impact the longevity of Butler's political career.  Butler gains Frail.

    6. President Washburn @Blockmon, it is unfortunate that Brooks Adams may look like a politician but he has all the personality to be fit only for appointed office. Adams gains unlikable.

    7. President Washburn @Blockmon, did you read about Senator Robie's speech last night?  What a disaster!  Somehow it was worse then the one he gave last week.  Robie gains incoherent.

    8. From time to time, some people believe that they hear the voice of God in a politician.  James Garfield, William Sherman, John Jay II, Benjamin F. Whitmore, Thomas Tipton, Gilbert De La Matyr, Thomas Talbert, and Samuel C Fessenden.  All belong to @Joe303300

    9. It is that most glorious time of the year when British trade tenson occurs.  UK Relations to 6.

    10. President Washburn @Blockmon, it is sad that to hear that you have personally become controversial.

    11. @Imperator Taco Cat good news that Green McCurtain has shown an aptitude to be a future judge. +1 on judicial.

    12. @Joe303300 great news.  James A. Garfield has gained +1 in Command.  He now has +4.

I firmly believe James a Garfield will be the next president of the United States

    General Events aka Anytime Evos:

    1. President Washburn @Blockmon, a major drought in Montana is destroying agriculture and threatening to spark fires.  Should we use federal intervention to help out in the recovery?

    A. Send disaster relief: 50% +budget but +1 election bonus in Montana for Washburn in 1880 (if he runs again)

    B. Refrain from disaster relief: 60% - party preference for GOP

    2. Did you see the news?  General William Sherman @Joe303300resigned as Sr. General as soon as the scandal was released to the press.  At least, he had the integrity to admit fault and step aside.  We are told he will not retire rom politics however, which renders him only fit for appointed office. President Washburn @Blockmon we need to name another Sr. General.  Let me know who it will be sir.

    3. Mr. President Washburn @Blockmon, over the course of this year we have lost Representative Henry Teller, Senator George Armstrong Custer, Minister to France Charles F Adams Sr, General George H. Thomas to the Democratic Party and we have just been informed that Congressman Benjamin Nabers will also be joining the Democrats.  This is not looking good.  We need to excite our party again!

PAIN/Joy WILL BE CONTINUED LATER TONIGHT
