    1)Abolish National Debt Policy

100pts to Gov/Sens in states leading in Finance

250pts to Trad, RW Activists, Wall Street

-250pts to Prog/Libs, LW Activists, Welfare

Party Pref +1 Red (now Red +2)

Rev/Bud meter improves by 1 (already maxed)

Policy needs to be implemented by Pres Wood (Gov ability), Sec of Treasury Horsey and Sen Econ Chair Longfellow

Everyone is successful!  @matthewyoung123 Sen Longfellow gains +1 Command (his 1st!)

    2) Extensively Tour America's Leading Port Cities

President gets +1 in reelection bid in states with Maritime Industries as a leading industry

100pts to Gov/Sens in states leading in Maritime

50pts to Big Corp, Transportation, Mil-Ind

    3) Open Up Trade with British West Indies

Must be successfully implemented to take effect

Implementation (Mod) by Pres Wood, Sec of State Irving and Minister to the UK Southard

    Pres Wood 30/20 blunders it

Wood does not have relevant experience so -2 to the blunder roll

Rolls 2-2=0; Party Pref -1 Red (now Red +1) and @pman Pres Wood, Sec Irving and @10centjimmy Minister Southard all gain Easily Overwhelmed

This action can be attempted again in the future

    4) Expand Most Favored Nation Trade Status to Much of Europe

    50tps to Free Trade, Globalists

    5) Open Up Trade with Central America

Must be successfully implemented to take effect

Implementation (Mod) by Pres Wood, Sec of State Irving and Sec of Treasury Horsey

Pres Wood 93/20, Sec Irving 94/80 and Sec Horsey 84/60 all blunder it. Woof

Since the Treasury Sec is involved in this one, Pres Wood does have the relevant exp so no -2 this time at least

Wood blunder roll is a 2= Gains Easily Overwhelmed or loses 1 admin (but can't go to zero). So no effect on Wood.

Irving blunder roll is a 6= Bad press for a day. That is all.

Horsey blunder roll is a 1= Party Pref -1 Red (now lean Red)

This action can be attempted again in the future

This started off so well and then just went South in a hurry

    • Haha 1
    • Agree 1
  3. 2.1.6 Political conversions-

"Party Leaders can attempt to convert someone from another party, so long as their target is marked for “Party Flipping.”

President Buchanan @Euri can target any Red politician that has "can party flip" at a 33% chance to convert them to his faction.  There are no restrictions on the ideology of the target.

Senator William Seward @Blockmon can target any TWO Democrats that have "can party flip" at a 43% chance to convert them to his faction.  Again, there are no restrictions on the ideology of your targets.

Remember that faction leaders, President, VP, and Speaker of the House cannot be targeted in this phase.

Both Party Leaders and Faction Leaders may target same-party members of other factions, so long as their target is marked “pliable” AND has the same OR ADJACENT personal ideology as the faction leader making the conversion attempt. This means a MOD faction leader can attempt to target Libs, Mods, and Cons with the Pliable trait.

    • BlueRW @Euri Jefferson Davis can attempt to recruit a Pliable RWPop, Trad, or Cons at a 10% chance.
    • Euri @Euri President Buchanan can attempt to recruit a Pliable RWPop, Trad, or Cons at a 33% chance.
    • BlueCons @10centjimmy Sec of State Cass can attempt to recruit TWO Pliable Trads, Cons, or Mods at 33% chance.
    • Freezer @theFreezerFlame Fmr Sen Stephen A Douglas can attempt to recruit TWO Pliable Cons, Mods, or Libs at 48% chance.
    • BlueLib @Arkansas Progressive Mr. Benjamin Butler can attempt to recruit a Pliable Mod, Lib, or Prog at at a 43% chance.
    • RedCons @Arkansas Progressive Fmr Rep. Alexander Stephens can attempt to recruit a Pliable Trads, Cons, or Mods at 10% chance.
    • RedMod @Bloot911 Rep. Amos Granger can attempt to recruit a Pliable Cons, Mods, or Libs at 10% chance.
    • @10centjimmy Fmr Sen John J Crittenden is harmonious and will not try to recruit within his own party.
    • RedLib @Blockmon Sen William H Seward can attempt to recruit TWO Pliable Cons, Mods, or Libs at 43% chance.
    • @Willthescout7 Gov Salmon P. Chase can attempt to recruit TWO Pliable Mod, Lib, or Prog at at a 33% chance, but cannot recruit anyone who is Manipulative.

Embargo War (US Pork vs. German Beet Sugar)

    • Trade issues have becoming increadibly tense between the US and Germany. Now, Germany is claiming that US pork is disease-ridden and has banned US pork from entering their country. Other countries have followed. The real issue seems to be that US pork is much cheaper than homegrown pork, leading to higher tariffs. Our trade experts want us to force open trade or our farmers might suffer.
    • -50pts Big Agriculture, Free Trade, Globalists
    • Pres Pattison must choose:
      • A) Threaten retaliatory embargo on Germany; B) Germany had excellent cause to embargo our pork; We should get our house in order.
      • Cabinet weighs in
        • Support A: Page, House
        • Support B: Stimson
        • @matthewyoung123 what do Sharp, Schurz, and Depew support?  They all support B.
      • @matthewyoung123 what choice does Pattison make?  Pattison supports B.

    Panic of 1907

    • A panic has been blamed on an effort to corner stock in the United Copper Company. Once the stock market fell, runs on banking and trust companies exacerbated problems. JP Morgan--America's most notable banker--has offered to use his own money to stabilize the economy if we wish it. Some fear JP Morgan might want a lot of influence in return.
    • Sec of Treasury Clarke prevents any Econ Stability drops.
    • Revenue/Budget -1 (now trending Balanced)
    • Pres Pattison must choose:
      • A) Use the government to ease the panic. Divert funds to create government jobs to reduce unemployment; B) It is not the government's job to bail anyone out and it isn't up to a private individual either; or C) Approach JP Morgan to bail out the government; if successful, then economy moved to neutral
      • Cabinet weighs in
        • Support A: Stimson, Page, House
        • Support B:
        • Support C
        • @matthewyoung123 what do Sharp, Schurz, and Depew support?  They all support A.
      • @matthewyoung123 what choice does Pattison make?  Pattison supports A.

Calls for Suffrage for Women intensify throughout the Western World

    • The activists are louder and larger in number. It's only a matter of time when the majority of the world allows women voters. Should we follow the trend?
    • 100pts LW Activists, Human Rights
    • Pres Pattison must choose:
      • A) The people have spoken. Call on Congress to pass legislation to expand suffrage to this demographic; B) Ignore making an official statement, and do not interfere activism or in legislation on the topic; C) Make a grand speech opposed to women's right to vote. Use federal power to break up large groups of activists protesting for women's suffrage
        • If A) triggers a proposal next legis session for women's suffrage worth double points
      • Cabinet weighs in
        • Support A:
        • Support B: Stimson
        • Support C : Page, House
        • @matthewyoung123 what do Sharp, Schurz, and Depew support?  They all support A.
      • @matthewyoung123 what choice does Pattison make?  Pattison supports A.

    Samoan Crisis

    • A conflict between our claims on the Samoans and German claims on the Samoans have led to a civil war on the islands. To make matter more difficult, both of our warships in the area are severely damaged by a cyclone. The Germans are likely to continue to press their claim as they have ambitions to compete with the UK and France as a colonial empire. However, we have many in our own government pressing for us to take part in the imperial movement to compete as a Great Power.
    • Relations with Germany -1 (now trending Enemies)
    • Pres Pattison must choose:
    • A) Send Navy to intimidate the Germans out of Samoa; B) We have nothing to gain for risking war with Germany over small islands in the Pacific. Let Germany possess the Samoas; or C) The only sensible thing to do is split the islands between Germany and ourselves.
      • Cabinet weighs in

        • @matthewyoung123 what do Sharp, Schurz, and Depew support?  All support C.

    2.1.4 Relocate Politicians & 2.1.5 Ideology Shift

    @Euri @10centjimmy @theFreezerFlame @Arkansas Progressive @Bloot911 @Blockmon @Willthescout7

You now have the opportunity to attempt to relocate your politicians from overpopulated to underpopulated states.  You may also move politicians to their alt states at the time.

Overpopulated States; CA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, MO, NY, OH, PA, VA

Underpopulated States/Territories; AR, FL, KS, MN, NE, NM, NV, OK, UT.  KS provides a bonus to those factions holding the Expansionist card as the state has just come into the Union.  OR would as well, but has more than 20 pols in it so is no longer eligible for "underpopulated" state.

You may also attempt to shift ideologies for your politicians.  Please consult the rules about how many attempts you get and the penalties associated with attempting shifts.

  10. Welcome to 1859-60

    @Euri @10centjimmy @theFreezerFlame @Arkansas Progressive @Bloot911 @Blockmon @Willthescout7 @matthewyoung123

The nation is on the precipice.  Domestic stability is almost at it's lowest point in the nation's young history.  President Buchanan, a northern politician with southern sympathies, occupies the White House, but his party didn't do too well in the recent midterm elections.  The Democrats have lost the House of Representatives, and now the Republicans control it by 36 votes out of 236 votes total.  However, the Democrats have managed to hold onto the Senate, by 4 votes, mostly due to controlling almost all the Governor seats south of the Mason-Dixon line.  The Supreme Court is still dominated by Democrats under the watchful eye of aging Chief Justice Taney of Maryland.

The admission of two new free states, Kansas and Oregon, didn't help the domestic stability situation.  Many Northerners are beginning to see that the availability of cheap labor in the South, namely chattel slavery, is a threat to them, both morally and economically.  If slavery is allowed to expand out into the territories, what does that say about the future of the United States?  Can the nation exist permanently as half free and half slave?  Northern sympathies towards abolitionists is growing.  It has long been a cause of the Left Wing Progressives, but can it now start to pull in Liberals and Moderates to it's ranks?  Can the fledging Republican Party field a credible Presidential candidate with broad appeal in the 1860 election?

On the other side, Southerners are becoming increasingly alarmed that outsiders, "Yankees", want to interfere with some of their long standing policies and institutions such as states rights, slavery, and the tariff.  They view Northerners as hypocrites who benefit from the institution of slavery economically (through the importation, refining, and spinning of cotton) and then denigrate and chastise plantation owners in the same sentence.  They believe that Northern factory workers, many of them newly arrived immigrants to the nation, are treated the same as enslaved people are.  Right Wing Populists in the country will be getting a boost in the next election due to the wide spread visibility of their causes.  Both they and the Traditionalists are heavily favored in the Southern states.

While the revenue and budget situation is looking good for the nation, the economic stability is questionable.  While not an all out Panic, there was a run on the markets a month or so before the election.  This lack of economic stability likely caused some voters to question the ability of the Democrats on the economy.  There is growing uncertainty moving forward on the economic situation, which only adds to the rising level of anxiety in the country.

Will the new Congress be able to take any action on the issue of slavery?  Will it try to adjust the tariff?  What will the new cabinet of President Buchanan look like?  Will he continue to appease Southern slave owners and attempt to "kick the can down the road" on several key issues, or will he take a stand in his last two years as President?  What does the economic future of the nation look like, and how will it be impacted by westward expansion?  Who will the Democrats select as a replacement for Buchanan, who has pledged to serve only one term in office?  Whatever happens, there is no doubt that the next two years will be very impactful for the future of the nation.

So there are two bills that passed that are in direct competition with one another- Supreme Court Justice number.  How would this be handled?
