Free Agency!

@matthewyoung123 @OrangeP47 @ebrk85 @Rezi @jnewt

  • They have desired contracts, but you can underbid to try and get them as you may be the only person to make the bid. So bid anything, but you have to mention who you'll drop if it requires that.
  • I'll sign any leftovers to 1 year contracts to teams at the end, unless they're red, in which case they'll retire.

Cardinals will attempt to see if a CB signs at a D rating.

Jaguars will offer C Kevin Glover the A contract he desires.

Jets no moves.

Lions no moves.

Saints will offer DE Richard Dent a B contract (underbid), and CB Rod Woodson the S contract he desires.

Seahawks will offer either of the DTs wanting a C level contract a C level contract and offer G Dave Szott a B.

Pre-Boost/Penalty Power Rankings for 1996!

Montana's 49ers are the top team going into Montana's final season ( @matthewyoung123). The Eagles are in their best position ever ( @ebrk85), and the Colts are looking pretty good. The defending SB Champs--the Patriots--have really collapsed. Marino's Broncos are at their weakest ever as are the Bills. The Giants are looking at the likely 1st pick in the 1997 draft.

Note: Not sure when I'll get to boosts. Today, tomorrow, or Thursday.

NFL 1996 Regular Season Standings!

I skipped typing out all of the boosts to save time. I think it also makes presenting the standings more of a surprise. Eagles finished 1st, which was a possibility, while the 49ers lost more games than expected, despite winning their division. The Bengals manged to go 3rd! I think the Cowboys and Saints were the biggest underperformers, while the Dolphins and Jets were the greatest overperformers. The Jaguars will get the first pick, despite the Giants seeming like the worst team. Note: The strengths on the right are the post-boost/penalty #s.

1996 NFL Passing Stats!

Steve Young is the clear MVP and the probable favorite to to follow Montana in racking up individual points until Peyton Manning is drafted. This is the first time Young has had any real help on his team. Dave Krieg had a kind of career year on the Packers. Warner had a great year as did Cunningham. Montana had his statistically worst season, mainly because he now plays in a 5-team division, which allowed for more defenses to appy penalties. Montana is great, but he also had an advantage in a 4-team division for years, and against weak opponents in that division. Stan Humphries was the worst QB, but he also had the worst team to work with. Aikman barely threw the ball.

1996 NFL Playoffs!

I realized, I accidentally had Mark Rypien start for the Ravens, so this victory could be an asterisk, but I don't want to sim the entire season again.

  • SB: Ravens def Eagles [this game might have double overtime!]
  • NConf: Eagles def Bears [close game]
  • AConf: Ravens def Bengals [not a blowout but clear victory]
  • Div: Eagles def Packers [likely won in the 4th quarter]
  • Div: Bears def 49ers [as is a near annual tradition. RB runs all over weak 49er run defense.]
  • Div: Bengals def Colts [upset and close game due to relatively weak Colts rush defense]
  • Div: Ravens def Raiders [likely overtime win]
  • WC: Bengals def Dolphins [both an upset and a blowout]
  • WC: Packers def Panthers [probably last second win]
  • WC: Raiders def Jets [blowout]
  • WC: 49ers def Vikings [blowout]

I think Rypien has better clutch which plays more of a role in playoff games. Stewart might be able to win more regular season games, but Rypien is going to win more playoff games or "close games.

Sorry for the delay.

Resignings and Trades!

@matthewyoung123 @OrangeP47 @ebrk85 @Rezi @jnewt

Look at your teams.

  • Anyone with a 0 for their contract year needs to be resigned to their desired (or better) contract shown next to the 0.
  • You are allowed 1 S, and 5 of all other contract levels.
  • Just let me know which people you are NOT signing or if you are adusting anyone's contract.

I'm also going to change something up with the draft. When you draft someone, you will not have to drop someone unless the draftee doesn't have a spot to go position-wise. For instance, if you have 3 QBs (the max) and you draft a 4th.

The whole dropping part will occur during free agency. I'm also going to change how I do free agency when we get there, mainly for expediency's sake.

Cardinals can resign everyone.

Jaguars sign Testaverde to an S, don't resign the B level people but resign everyone else.

Jets Bump Larry Allen to an S and resign everyone else as is.

Lions Bump Rod Smith to an S and resign everyone else as is.

Saints resign everyone.

Seahawks resign everyone.

For any viewers out there, we are going to end this playtest as it's successfully given me enough feedback for playtest #2.

I want to thank playtesters @OrangeP47 @matthewyoung123 @Rezi @jnewt and @ebrk85 for their time, patience, and excellence.

I'll do one more post in this thread, showing how our QBs did for their careers in our alternate history.

Finally, congrats to @matthewyoung123 for winning the game by having the highest score.
