Politician Conversions

Due to Conservatives being maxed for Whigs, Conservative Democrats might party switch.

  • Judicial Track David Walker switches from Conservative Democrats to States Rights Whigs
  • James H Lane switches from Popular Sovereignty Democrats to States Rights Whigs
  • VA Rep Henry A Wise switches from Popular Sovereignty Democrats to States Rights Whigs

President Harrison will attempt to convert Simon Cameron of PA and fails.

Democratic leader William Marcy will not attempt to convert as the States Rights Democrats are the highest scoring faction but cannot be targeted for conversion due to high enthusiasm for Conservatives.

@OrangeP47 @Willthescout7 @matthewyoung123 Same party conversions. In theory the Whigs cannot convert as States Rights Whigs are the highest scoring faction and maxed enthusiasm. So action just to Democratic faction leaders. Whigs can activate new kingmakers, however.

Agrarians

Target Martin Van Buren

Kingmaker Jefferson Davis -> John J Pettus (MS)

Conservative Democrats

Target Lewis Cass

Kingmaker George M Dallas -> Henry D Foster (PA)

Free Soil Democrats

Target Silias Wright (would technically target Van Buren again, but that'd be messy? Maybe flag this?)

(Add John W Jones)

Kingmaker Salmon P Chase -> John Brough (PA)

Moderate Democrats

Target Simon Cameron (The "target highest scoring faction pliable logic is really causing issues with factions picking the same people so I'm just chaining it)

Kingmaker (they don't have any)

Free Soil Democrats

Target Silas Wright (would technically target Van Buren again, but that'd be messy? Maybe flag this?) Succeeds (rolled 1)

(Add John W Jones) Fails, Gains Disharmonious, Loses Pliable

Kingmaker Salmon P Chase -> John Brough (PA)

Moderate Democrats

Target Simon Cameron (The "target highest scoring faction pliable logic is really causing issues with factions picking the same people so I'm just chaining it) Fails, Gains Integrity (cancels out his pliable)

Kingmaker (they don't have any)

Only one success Silas Wright (would have loved to see the Van Buren-Marcy train).

Please move Wright over and update traits.

Jefferson Davis is not 35 so he cannot be a kingmaker. Needs to be Andrew B Moore or Andrew Jackson Donelson.

Salmon Chase is on the career track and not 35, so he cannot be kingmaker. Needs to be William F Packer or Noah Haynes Swayne.

Once these are updated, I'll assign cards.

Please update your faction sheets with new committee and chairmanship experience and traits.

Gains are listed on the committee tabs.
Speaker Jones gains Legis+1.

No meters move from the Democratic House Chairs or Whig Senate Chairs.

Action to @Willthescout7 @matthewyoung123 @OrangeP47 to pick faction leaders. Leaders may not change but please check because cards got shuffled around.

Democratic Party Leadership

All factions will run for leader except for current party leader William Marcy, who is easily overwhelmed. William Marcy will support Rep Linn Boyd as the Agrarians are the lowest scoring faction

Round 1

  • Agrarians- Rep Linn Boyd: 9+4=13+7=20
    • Popular Sovereignty Democrats- Former Gov William L Marcy: 2+5=7
  • Conservative Democrats-Sen William R King: 9+4=13
  • Free Soil Democrats- Sen Thomas Hart Benton: 10+7=17
  • Moderate Democrats- Poet Francis Scott Key: 8+0=8

No one wins a majority of the votes. The top 2 will go to a runoff but since there is a tie for second, there will be a top 3. Francis Scott Key will support Thomas Hart Benton as he has the highest PV of the possible leaders.

Round 2

  • Agrarians- Rep Linn Boyd: 7+4=11+11=22
    • Popular Sovereignty Democrats- Former Gov William L Marcy: 6+5=11
  • Conservative Democrats-Sen William R King: 6+4=10
  • Free Soil Democrats- Sen Thomas Hart Benton: 7+7=14+6=20
    • Moderate Democrats- Poet Francis Scott Key: 6+0=6

No one wins the majority in round 2, so only Boyd and Benton move to the final round. King will not back a candidate.

Round 3

  • Agrarians- Rep Linn Boyd: 3+4=7+9=16
    • Popular Sovereignty Democrats- Former Gov William L Marcy: 4+5=9
  • Free Soil Democrats- Sen Thomas Hart Benton: 5+7=12+5=17
    • Moderate Democrats- Poet Francis Scott Key: 5+0=5

MO Sen Thomas Hart Benton of the Free Soil Democrats succeeds Former Gov William Marcy as leader of the Democrats. Benton gains Command +1, Leadership, +3 in primaries as long as he remains leader.

Harrison and Benton are both Moderates so their meter enthusiasm moves +1 Red for Harrison's reelection and +2 Blue for Benton's election (Moderates now lean blue). The Agrarians do not border the Free Soil Democrats, so RW Populist enthusiasm moves +1 Red (RW Populists now lean blue).

CPU President Harrison decides to make some new cabinet choices.

For the open position of Key Advisor, Harrison taps Whig William H Seward of New York (CPULars faction).  Seward accepts.

For Sec of State, Harrison asks Democrat John C. Calhoun of South Carolina (CPUShortKing faction).  Calhoun considers it, and even dines at the White House with the President.  However, after careful consideration, Senator Calhoun decides not to leave the Senate and rejects the President's offer.  Harrison then asks Democrat Richard Rush of Pennsylvania (CPUMark_W faction) to be Secretary of State, and Rush accepts.

Harrison asks long time Whig, Henry Clay (CPUVols21 faction) to become the Secretary of the Treasury.  Clay agrees.

With relations with Spain deteriorating fast, and a possible war over the Texas annexation coming, Harrison asks Whig Edward Bates of Missouri (CPUWillthescout7 faction) to be Secretary of War.  Bates accepts.

Attorney General and Whig John J Crittenden of Kentucky (CPULars faction) retains his office as Attorney General.

Samuel L. Southard of New Jersey (CPULars), a Whig, is offered and accepts the position of Secretary of the Navy.

Harrison reaches out to Whig James M. Clayton, of Delaware, ambassador to Spain, to be the new Postmaster General.

So, the Senate needs to vote and consent on the new cabinet members- Rush, Clay, Bates, Southard, and Clayton.  Factions need to update their sheets.

Sen Southard will not attempt to block any of the nominees.

All nominees were approved through committees and Senate at large unanimously (@MrPotatoTed there seem to be no CPU rules for confirmation in the 2.3 or 3.0.27 sections besides a few traits.)

No enthusiasm gains for allied factions appointed to the Big 4 offices.

AG John J Crittenden gains nor loses anything for his reappointment.

Richard Rush, Edward Bates, John J Crittenden lose obscure.

Due to only having 3 of the 7 regions in the cabinet, domestic stability falls by 1 to Violent Protests.

Meter movement due to interests and lobbies:

  • RW Populists move 1 to Blue (Now Blue +1)
  • Conservatives move 2 to Blue (Now Red +1)
  • Moderates move 2 to Red (no bonus)

Sec of State Rush (Moderate Democrats) needs to name ambassadors.

@OrangeP47 @matthewyoung123 @Willthescout7 please update your faction sheets and then we can move into the random events phase.
