There is no penalty for losing a difficult battle with the leading officer. Since it was a difficult battle, Macomb rolls a 6 and loses -1 mil for the rest of the phase.

Lee gains military leadership and loses obscure. No other random triggering battles so this concludes the war phase.

Due to winning all of the naval battles, Matthew C Perry gains +1 admin.

Due to losing a majority of the land battles, Winfield Scott loses 1 mil, loses 1 admin, and gains incompetent. He is immediately fired and replaced by the Sec of War.

@matthewyoung123 @Willthescout7  please update Perry and Scott appropriately.

And now Congress is in session. There are two crises: Domestic and Military (due to major wars). @OrangeP47 @matthewyoung123 @Willthescout7

Unfortunately, President Harrison has asked Senior General Scott to resign.  He does so, reluctantly.

In his place, CPUHarrison asks his old friend, former officer in the War of 1812, former Secretary of War, and current Ambassador to France, Lewis Cass, to come back and take a position in the US Army as Senior General.  Harrison hopes that his high administrative skill, and his expertise in foreign affairs, will help turn the tide of war against Spain, and help to win out in Mexico.

President Harrison will sign all of the laws sent to his desk.

Points gained:

  • Agrarians: +350
  • Conservative Democrats: +450
  • Popular Sovereignty Democrats:+600
  • Free Soil Democrats: +150
  • Moderate Democrats: +600
  • States Rights Whigs: +700
  • Clay Whigs: +200
  • Moderate Whigs: +200
  • Anti-Masons: +200
  • Conscience Whigs: +50

Meter movement:

  • Trad +2 Blue (failure of Ban Non-Christian Immigration in committee, Revenue-Budget meter). [Now Blue +1]
  • Cons +2 Red (most points for Whigs, most points Dems) [Now Red +3 and triggers party switches again]
  • Mod +2 Blue (least points Whigs, most points Dems, least points Dems) [Now leans Blue]
  • Quality of Life +1 (Offer Cheap Tracts of Land to Encourage Settlement in the West (Log Cabin Bill))
  • Revenue-Budget -2 (Increase the size of the navy, Increase Defense Spending)
    • Now between overspending and very overspending. Progs are +1 in elections.
  • Economic Stability -1 (Subsidize the American Colonization Society to send slaves and freed blacks back to Africa)
    • Falls to stagnation due to the Rev-Bud situation and the -1. Whigs are -1 in elections.
  • Military Prep +1 (Create a Land Grant for Colleges that also Teach Military Tactics)
    • Increases to very prepared and a guaranteed +15 in all battles.

Executive Actions

Richard Rush, Edward Bates, John J Crittenden, John M Clayton as eggheads can suggest actions for Harrison to take. None will resign if they are ignored because they aren't disharmonious. So, in theory Harrison can make the 3 actions that he wants with no penalties. @Willthescout7 @matthewyoung123 @OrangeP47

Pres Harrison will Authorize a Troop Surge, pursue a Pro-Federal Government Policy, and Give Major Speech to Encourage Morale in War.

Harrison delivers a Speech about the US-Spain War but it doesn't really impress (fails); however, Popular Sovereignty Democrats are pleased with what they hear (Cons +1 Red but already maxed out).

No factions are enthused about the troop surge but neither are they upset (no enthusiasm movement). New Sr Gen Lewis Cass bungles the implementation of the surge confusing Mexico and Spain at times. Luckily Harrison had military expertise and Admin 2, so he adds +1 to the blunder rolls. Cass rolls a 5+1=6 so it's simply a bad press day for the administration. The troop surge does not affect the meters but it will affect every battle for the next war phase with there being a chance of a decrease in difficulty.

Points awarded:

  • Conscience Whigs: 100
  • States Rights Whigs: -50
  • Agrarians: -50
  • Conservative Democrats: +50
  • Popular Sovereignty Democrats: +150
  • Moderate Democrats: +200

No Supreme Court Justices can be compelled to retire nor do any voluntarily step down (average age is about 56 years).

It's now time for the 1844 General Elections!

We will start with the conventions, so I will need major, minor and/or favorite son candidates to be announced per the CPU rules. @matthewyoung123 @OrangeP47 @Willthescout7

Here are the rules for selecting candidates: The CPU when deciding between major candidates, will run their Party Leader 75% (not sure if this should be faction leader too) of the time and a random Gov, Sen, VP, Fmr VP, Fmr Pres 25% of the time, provided they have 1 command. If none apply, then any random candidate with at least 1 command. The CPU will always select to run a minor candidate, selecting a random candidate with 1 command.

@Ich_bin_Tyler

CPU President Harrison will obviously run for a 2nd term of office as a Moderate Whig (3 Command).

CPU MrPotatoTed's faction selects their faction leader, former Governor William L Marcy of NY (2 Command) as their major Presidential candidate.  Minor Presidential candidate is James K. Polk of TN (3 Command).

Democratic Nominating Speeches (All have orator):

Agrarians: David Levy Yulee rolls a 4+1=5 +1 Momentum to Linn Boyd

Conservative Democrats: Robert M Mclane rolls a 3+1=4 no change

Popular Sovereignty Democrats: Paul Dillingham rolls a 4+1=5 +1 Momentum to Marcy
