Not currently, certainly

😉

But indeed perhaps.  It's probably my biases showing, but I'm always one to say 90% of war is logistics.  Who shot whom doesn't matter.  Where the bullets are made and how cheaply is is what matters.

News

(Informational) The repeated attacks on President Gold have started to cause defections from the People's League as a whole.

(Informational) The time is approaching for Congress to pass regulation of the Census. If nothing is proposed this month, NPCs will take up the task..

(175) Raids on Fort Gold continue. "General" Weld is requesting command of the overall war effort from Governor Blair (though still reporting to Secretary Ward). It seems our guy has a bit of ego too, but he's doing well...

(523) A letter writing campaign in the Baltimore Gazette asks Congress for a citizen survey to name the new capital.

-

State News

(456) Connecticut – Though it is unorthodox, President Gold manages to insert himself into the CT Governor's race. In a vacuum, he could probably pull it off. It's not entirely unprecedented. That said, the incessant attacks from rivals look to make it a doomed endeavor. (98)(802) The spat only fuels anti-elite sentiment and damages the party structure. Connecticut's legislature is getting second thoughts. They do eventually pass a bill banning cohabitation with Federal Office... but there's a grandfather clause that would exempt Gold because they're afraid of specific legal troubles. Gold CAN run (though should he is another question), but it looks like there won't be a repeat, and the people's sentiments against people doing so is very sour, so it may not be a winning proposition.

(770) Georgia – The investigation into Stone uncovers, well, garden variety corruption. Everyone does it, it may or may not actually be illegal, but it does hurt his reputation. He'll be distracted for awhile...

(353) New York/Vermont – The Vermont "government" requests President Gold and the soon to be filled SCOTUS mediate their dispute with New York, and agree to invite Governor Hawkins and his delegation.

(291) South Carolina – The state legislature reports to Governor Marlon that any prolonged engagement with the natives will be a strain on the budget...

-

Results

(670) There is little "actual" opposition to Gold's SCOTUS picks, outside of a few very specific complaints that don't warrant mentioning and don't hold up proceedings. (766) That said, give how rough the waters are for President Gold right now, he takes the credit for caving to the Pro-Tems demand to reform his slate of candidates. The last selection can be voted on this month.

(918) – Momentum had been built... The only state failing to ratify the Bill of Rights is now South Carolina, and that seems more like a formality, but they're now law. Well, technically Kentucky too, but they can be cut some slack, having just been admitted and having bigger fish to fry...

(535) The amendments to the Military Modernization Act are not exactly what the opposition wanted, but the dire situation has people calling to expedite this, and their voices win out...

Bill Status: Passed both chambers narrowly, can be signed by the President.

(265) Spain is nominally friendly, but is wary of what the United States will do/become down the road. Wary rather than welcoming of new neighbors, even if they played a part in how we got here, so to speak. Their ambassador says they can't comment on any proposed terms until they are submitted, but they're polite and don't have any current grievances.

(945)(345) There is overwhelming support for the bill that would block the President from holding other office during their tenure, near veto proof. If it came to that, it'd be trivial to whip the needed votes to override Gold. There's some grumbling about adding the Vice President, but the loudest voices insist there's no functional difference between that plank and the main objective.

Bill Status: Passed, Gold Can veto, but near certain override.

-

NPC Interaction

(629) Government officials calls to practicality to find some sympathy among the Southern opposition in regards to the budget and foreign policy. Politically, they are still the opposition, but they will drop the matter for now, outside of a few key players.

(215) There's a man in New York claiming (through private channels) to have British military secrets he'd like to sell to the War Department. Secretary Ward's underling who'd be in charge of espinoge is wary something is not quite right.

Veto as it's violation of the eleventh amendment, such a law would either need to be on the state level (as done in Connecticut.) or as an amendment.

Governor Dobb will lampoon the Presidents “selective Constitutionalism” in an essay that points out that Congress clearly has the authority to regulate federal elections and officials and that this law is, of course, not a violation of the 11th. The President is embarrassing himself by grasping for protection under a document he routinely ignores when it suits him.
