Quick Q about the rules if you don't mind:

"An “Iron Fisted” Party Leader shares one of his cards with his fellow allied factions each term, unless a faction leader has “Puritan” or “Leadership.” The party leader will choose this card. "

My initial reading of this rule was that the traits puritan and leadership would allow the player to choose whether or not they accept the card, not that they were not allowed to. Wasn't sure what the operating protocol was on this one.

I’ve played it as they’re not allowed to...but I defer to @vcczar on what his intent was.

ssys will share UNLESS.     Doesn’t give an option.      Personally, I don’t like the rule as written because most faction leaders should have leadership.    However, I flagged it last time when I saw it after the fact and asked not to go back to rescore it.  The military card was removed from the pacifist faction though for obvious reasons.      I could see a possible dice roll to see if the faction would accept the card, but as written 90% of the time cards won’t be able to be shared.

Yeah. Add this to the fix thread and I’ll remove leadership.

Despite Gov Stratton's desire to take his skills to the Senate, he will appoint former presidential candidate Charles Percy to the Senate and former Rep Robert H Michel back to his seat.

Gov. Samuelson of Idaho announces that Idaho State Senator Jim McClure will be tabbed to fill the vacant US Senate seat left by the untimely death of Senator Henry Dworshak, who also served his country with distinction and honor as a Sergeant in the US Army during WWI

We also mourn the loss of former NM Gov Mecham and former Ohio Congressman McCulloch (who apparently smoked the same cigars)

The "right wing media" speak out

20220502_cover_500.jpg?fit=448%2C593

William F Buckley pens an editorial about a story he picked up from the wires:

"It seems an 11 year old 5th grader was recently suspended from his Cape Girardeau Missouri elementary school after commandeering the principal's office and broadcasting to the entire school how Illinois Governor William Stratton is a traitor for appointing 2 liberals this week - one to the Senate and one to the House.   His excellent broadcast was cut short when the Principal was able to break down the door and take the microphone away from the student who was simply exercising some free speech.   That boy's name is Rush Limbaugh and young man if you keep speaking your mind and telling the truth like this, you have a bright future ahead of you in journalism.   Mark my words

Here at the National Review, we echo young Limbaugh's sentiments.   Traditional value conservatives all over the country were salivating at the prospects of having Everett Dirksen and Leslie Arends together in the Senate making Illinois a true powerhouse in the legislative body.    Alas, the much-maligned Stratton has made more enemies with his blunderous choices appointing a couple liberals to these key seats.  There are some who say Stratton appointed Charles Percy to the Senate to avoid facing him in the Gov/ Primary next year.   That could come back to haunt him - In fact, we now are now calling for Leslie Arends to come out and challenge Stratton in those primaries.   We will give him the full support and endorsement of this publication and he will have the financial support of true conservatives across the fruited plain.  There is no doubt Arends will defeat Stratton if he chooses to run.   It's called Kharma and it will be a sight to behold.

While we wait...

GENERAL EVENTS

Major Diplomatic Conference

Quote

You've been invited to a major diplomatic conference in Europe, which is hosting several world leaders to discuss important international issues. Considering the importance of the conference, you have to decide whether you should handle this important task or if a foreign policy expert, such as your Sec of State, should handle negotiations.

@Vols21 can either send himself or his secretary of state.
Nationalist March

Quote

A Nationalist March is taking place just outside the capital. This group also includes many nativists, espousing vitriol against foreign-born Americans, immigrants, religious minorities, and racial minorities.

Hit a 7, needed > 20. Domestic Stability falls by 1!

Among the People

Quote

Our supporters are really taking a liking to James G. Martin. Our faction might want to put his likability to some good use. Let's see if it translates to votes.

@OrangeP47 James G Martin gains "likable"

Regained Confidence

Quote

We thought ______ was washed up, but advisors have been reporting that ___ has rekindled that old fire.

@Lars can choose one person in his faction to lose "incoherent," "easily overwhelmed," or "incompetent"

Judicial Influence

Quote

The more a justice learns about interpreting federal law, the more they often evolve from their philosophies they learned from service in a lower court.

@Lars could have moved Earl Warren one position towards his ideology if he had a politician with manipulative.

Outdated Weapons and Tactics

Quote

President, we even found a stockpile of weapons from 100 years ago.

Rolled a 3, military preparedness drops by 1!

Race Riots

Quote

Clashes between proponent and opponents of Civil Rights are increasingly common in our major cities. More and more questions are direct to you to do something about them.

@Vols21 John Bricker can take either -1 domestic stability, or send in the national guard for -1 party preference

A series of Coal Mine Disasters

Quote

The number of coal mine disasters are happening so frequently this year that more and more labor activists are protesting outside of the White House than usual.

Rolled a 93 to avoid a drop in domestic stability.

Ambitious Judge

Quote

For some judges, the court shackles them from their larger ambitions. Occasionally, one takes the risk of being a bold Supreme Court Justice.

@pman William O. Douglas can run for President in 1964, otherwise they are giving up the opportunity.

The wreckage of the USS Monitor was found off the coast of NC and dredged up.   Plus the cache of  Springfield model 1861 rifles found in a Missouri cave once used as a hideout by Jesse James should really put fear in the hearts of the Soviet navy and army
