There are no specific rules for CC approval of Generals/Admirals (I've flagged it in the rules), and there's nothing here that seems especially troublesome, so I'll assume all appointees are approved.

Senior General:

Israel Putnam (3, military leader) 10c +2 Admin.

Generals:

William Moultrie (3)  PinckneyCPU

Nathaniel Greene (3) EllsworthCPU

Artemis Ward (3) FranklinCPU

1776 RANDOM DEATHS AND RETIREMENTS

Note:  We recently added a new rule that retirements of actively elected officials during this phase are not automatic -- rather, they are an announcement that the politician will resign (and be removed from the game) during the next election.  So they are not automatically replaced.

FranklinCPU John Bartram retires at the age of 88, to become our fledgling nation's first lobbyist.

PinckneyCPU Thomas Penn, fresh off the boat from England, dies at the age of 74 from the plague.  Well.  That was fun while it lasted.

That's it.  That's the whole list.

1776 GENERAL EVENTS

Scandalous Non-Office Holder:  Yet another scandal! Time to force John Smilie out of office and cut ties with them politically. We can't damage our brand, even if it gives us a temporary setback in an election. We can find someone better to fill their void.

PaineCPU John Smilie is removed from the game!

The Hiester Event:   I had the same thought as you did. I completely forgot William Grayson even existed. Now Grayson has got the makings of a true powerplayer.

BooneCPU William Grayson gains +1 Command, +1 Legislative, +1 Governing, +1 Military, +1 Justice.  (Previously only had 2 Legis and 1 Military).

1776 EVENTS

Articles of Confederation:  Following our Declaration of Independence, delegates were select to draft an Articles of Confederation to secure an organized union of our newly independent states.

Congress can request funds from the states; No consecutive reelection for Continental Congress persons; Congress needs 2/3 of the states to pass a bill and unanimous support for amendments.

Action to @10centjimmy to choose a response.

Restraining Acts:
Parliament has now passed several acts restraining trade first in Massachusetts, and then to five more colonies.

Prohibitory Act:  The British Parliament has cut off all trade between the British Isles and the American Colonies. So, this is economic warfare.

Philis Wheatley Dies:
The first published poet of African descent has died. Wheatley was born in West Africa, sold into slavery, but she was eventually emancipated. Wheatley's writing was praised by several leading Americans. [Historically, George Washington was among many of her notable fans.]

Conciliatory Resolution:  Word has spread that the British Parliament has issued a Conciliatory Resolution to the various colonial governments in an effort to resolve the crisis. However, they bypassed our Continental Congress, believing it to be an illegal government institution. Clearly, they wish to divide the colonies, but the British government does wish to relax some of the taxation we bear in exchange for our loyalty.

Action to @10centjimmy for a response.

William Franklin Defies Colonies and His Father:
Despite being the son of Benjamin Fraklin, William Franklin has defied his father and declared his loyalty to the crown!

William Franklin will not be appearing in this game.

Dutch Recognize the United States:  God love the United Provinces! We've been recognized. We must establish official relations with them immediately to strengthen our ties. We can expect recognition from other countries in the near future.

We can now take out loans from the Dutch.

Republic of Vermont proclaimed: A convention of local leaders in a disputed territory between New York and New Hampshire has declared independence as the Republic of Vermont! They likely won't sustain their independence as the British, or perhaps even New York, will annex them.

That's likely it from me today.  Will process the outcomes when I get back, which will likely be tomorrow.

Washington chooses A: "This confederacy shall be henceforth known as ""The United States of America,"" and this union shall be perpetual. "

Washington chooses A: This is pittance for the amount of blood that's been shed. Reject it.

Just realized (from watching a different playthrough), that we are supposed to be assigning five random "Alternate states" to five random draftees.  Whoops!

For the 1776 draft:

PaineCPU James Garrard (KY) gets MA.
PaineCPU John Smith (VA) gets SC.
PaineCPU Levi Lincoln Sr (MA) gets NC.
LeeCPU John Edwards (KY) gets NJ.
LeeCPU Joseph Calhoun (SC) gets RI.

Well...that didn't feel so random after all.  Ha.

1776 GOV ACTIONS:

Maryland: Gov William Paca (EllsworthCPU) -- Changes from 2 to 4 year terms (effective in the 1778 "midterm" elections.)

New Jersey: Gov. William Livingston (JayCPU) improves the financial sector.  NY now ties PA as the financial capital of the hopefully-someday-free-world.

New York: Gov. George Clinton (HancockCPU) -- Changes from 2 to 4 year terms (effective in the 1778 "midterm" elections.)

All other governors fail their actions, including @10centjimmy.

1776: The Revolutionary War!

We need to win 1 Naval Phase and 5 Ground Phase battles.

Fun fact:  It's hard to plan a war with no Secretary of War/Defense/Navy, and since those positions don't exist yet...

FIRST NAVAL PHASE BATTLE

Planning: Sec of War/Defense/Navy (0) + JayCPU Senior Admiral Esek Hopkins (3) = 3
Admiral:  PinckneyCPU Admiral Benedict Arnold (3) x 10 = 30
Meters: +15
Military Benchmarks: +10
Difficulty: Difficult -25
Chance of Success: 33%
Outcome: FAILED.

BooneCPU Military Career Track John Barry is killed in battle.

FIRST NAVAL PHASE BATTLE, ATTEMPT TWO

Planning: Sec of War/Defense/Navy (0) + JayCPU Senior Admiral Esek Hopkins (3) = 3
Admiral:  @10centjimmy  Admiral Daniel Morgan (4) x 10 = 40
Meters: +5
Military Benchmarks: +10
Difficulty: Difficult -25
Chance of Success: 35%
Outcome: FAILED.

FIRST NAVAL PHASE BATTLE, ATTEMPT THREE

Planning: Sec of War/Defense/Navy (0) + JayCPU Senior Admiral Esek Hopkins (3) = 3
Admiral:  JayCPU Senior Admiral Esek Hopkins (3) x 10 = 30
Meters: +5
Military Benchmarks: +10
Difficulty: Difficult -25
Chance of Success: 23%
Outcome: FAILED.

We needed 1 Naval Win, we've got zero so far.  12 more tries to go, before the war is lost.

On to the ground battles!

General:  JayCPU General Friedrich W Von Steuben (3) x 10 = 30
Meters: +10
Military Benchmarks: +10
Difficulty: Difficult -25

The war is not going well so far.  If we lose 11 more battles between the sea and the land, we will have lost the war!

JayCPU Senior Admiral Esek Hopkins loses -1 Admin and gains Incompetent for his poor leadership.

Hopkins is automatically fired.  Action to @10centjimmy to appoint a new Senior Admiral.

I'll promote Daniel Morgan to Senior Admiral and fill his previous Admiral role with EllsworthCPU Abraham Whipple
